Each Parent and Supporter understands and agrees to:
• Support the participants and enjoy the Match; • Encourage participation, but don’t force it; • Teach that enjoyment is more important than winning; • Never ridicule mistakes or losses; • Lead by example and respect all Players, Coaches, Umpires, Officials and spectators. Physical or verbal abuse will not be tolerated; • Recognise all volunteers who give up their valuable time; • Never publicly criticise Umpires and instead raise personal concerns with Club Officials in private; • Do not use remarks based on race, religion, gender or ability as many such comments are politically incorrect and it is your Coach, team-mates, Club and family that are let down with such remarks; • Respect the facilities and equipment of their own and opposing Clubs; • Do not engage in physical and/or verbal intimidation, abuse or conduct toward any Player, Official, Umpire or sup- porter. Such actions are totally unacceptable; • Condemn the use of violence in any form, whether it is by spectators, Coaches, Officials or Players; • Refrain from using abusive language. • Not to enter the field of play in any sanctioned Competition Match unless granted permission by an Official to do so; • Not take part in any form of bullying including via the use of social media; • Not make or post inappropriate, offensive or discriminatory comments in public, including via social media, about Players, Clubs, Umpires, Officials, the AFL or the League. Social media includes, but is not limited to, email, instant messaging, text messages, phone messages, digital images, website postings (including social media such as Face- book, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, websites and blogs);

When it comes to the world of umpiring in the AFL HCC, there is nothing that Darrel Luck hasn’t achieved. On the most im- portant weekend of the 2020 AFL HCC season, a season like no other, Darrel will become the 2 nd Umpire to officiate in 450 Matches, since the inception of the BDAFL in 2000.
Affectionately known as “Plucka” to his fellow umpires, Luck is the only umpire who has been active in every season of the BDAFL / AFLHCC, and has officiated in a record 339 Black Diamond Cup Matches (336 field, 3 goal), with 31 Black Diamond Cup Finals, which is the most Black Diamond Cup finals umpired in any discipline.
Darrel has been fortunate enough to have been involved in the first Black Diamond Cup Grand Final in 2000 and has officiated in a total of 8 Black Diamond Cup Grand Finals (2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2015, 2018), which makes him the most experienced Cup Grand Final umpire in the active group.
Luck’s other Grand Final appearances have been in the 2010 and 2011 Reserve Grade Grand Finals, 5 Black Diamond Plate Grand Finals (2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2019), 1 Black Diamond Shield (Second Division) Grand Final in 2014 and 2 Under 18’s Grand Finals (2008, 2009). Darrel has been the recipient of many award over his career in umpiring. Luck won the NCCUA Umpire of the Year award on 3 occasions (2001, 2007, 2013), The Club Person of the Year on 3 occasions (2005, 2012, 2013) and the NCCUA Field Umpire of the Year twice (2007, 2013). He was the inaugural Presidents Award winner in 2015, as well as the winner of the Neville Turner Memorial Trophy for services to the NCCUA in 2019.
Luck was awarded Life Membership in 2006 and was given the honour of being in the inaugural class of the NCCUA Hall of Fame, in 2015. Last year, Darrel Luck was given the highest honour in the Hall of Fame class, the status of NCCUA Legend. He sits alongside John Sullivan and Neville Turner (deceased) as the only other two legends of the NCCUA.
Luck’s service to the NCCUA has been invaluable and the hallmark of his umpiring career. The NCCUA have been indebted to Darrel over his many years of service. Darrel has held the positions as Committee Member (2000, 2014, 2015, 2016), Umpires Coach / Coordinator (2000), Liaison Officer (2000, 2007-2012), Vice President (2005) and his most influential and important role of the NCCUA President (2006 – 2013). It was during his time as President, where the NCCUA and the BDAFL at the time were in multiple discussions over the conditions under which umpires officiated. Darrel ’s expertise in negotiation, his skills in compromise and his tenacity, passion and love for the umpiring group and umpires in general, which see the NCCUA with the conditions we are lucky enough to umpire with today.
The NCCUA is indebted to Darrel’s dedication, love, support and leadership over the lifetime of the BDAFL / AFLHCC. Even to- day, Darrel is an invaluable mentor in our Black Diamond Cup Panel, giving advice, assisting the younger umpiring brigade and being one of the more relied upon umpires to officiate at the region’s top level of games. The younger crew coming through are lucky to have been given the opportunity to learn from one of the region’s greatest ever field umpires.
The NCCUA and all umpires in the region extend their heartfelt congratulations to Darrel Luck on the achievement which not many umpires in this region, let alone, umpiring, will achieve, 450 Senior Matches. To do this in a Grand Final, is even more special. We hope you have a great game, get through it safely and resist the temptation to bounce the footy as “Draino” would want you to do!

By Dr Rodney Gillett The sudden appearance of gun forward Maurice Goolagong for Terrigal-Avoca half-way through the 2nd quarter of the 1999 grand final of the Central Coast AFL stunned both the crowd and the Killarney Vale Bombers at Wyong’s Don Small Oval. The competition leading goal-kicker, ostensibly out for the season with a fractured wrist, had driven through the night from Swan Hill on the Victorian border where he had attended his father’s 50th birthday party, leaving the party at 2am. “I started getting changed into my football gear when we came over the Mooney Mooney Bridge” Maurice told me in an interview with this piece. “I had taken the plaster off my wrist on the Thursday night and it felt good so I called the coach, Dean Wall, to tell him I could play, if he wanted me. He said yep, you’re in!”. The goalkicking machine had booted 70 goals to top the 2GO league goalkicking that season for Terrigal after trans- ferring from the Peninsula Swans, better known as Woy Woy. Killarney Vale led at half-time of the 1999 grand final by two points, but the arrival of their spearhead propelled them into action and the Panthers went onto win by 64 points with Maurice booting five goals in the second half. Maurice Goolagong carved out a sensational career in football on the Central Coast after having started out at Barellan in the South West juniors as a youngster, then moving to North Wagga in the Farrer league under the leg- endary Dick Carey, where he played centre half back. After moving to Sydney to take up an apprenticeship as a butcher he heeded the call from an uncle to play on the central coast initially with Woy Woy, and then at Terrigal Avoca where he has left an indelible legacy.
He topped the league goalkicking in the Central Coast AFL twice, in 1999 with 70 and 115 goals for Woy Woy in 1997. Upon the merging of the Newcastle and Central Coast competitions in 2000 to become the Black Diamond League, Maurice just kept kicking more and more goals!
He was the competition leading goalkicker from 2000-2005 topping the century four times, and then again in 2011 after stints with St George in the Sydney AFL and Tullibigeal in the Northern Riverina. His highest tally was 135 in 2001 when he kicked an amazing 25 goals in the last home-and-away game of the sea- son to edge out Killarney Vale’s Simon Cosser who led by 12 goals and kicked ten in the final game only to fail by 3 goals to snare the award from Maurice.
These remain the record number of goals for a season and for a game in the merged competition. The league goalkicking award is named in his honour.
All together Maurice played over 300 games on the central coast and kicked more than 1500 goals, giving him a “Plugger-like” average of over 5 goals per game!

There have many highlights to the bustling forward’s career including premierships for Terrigal-Avoca in 1999 and 2000 but special reference is made to the historic country championship win in Wagga in 2006 when the Black Dia- mond representative team beat the best leagues from southern NSW. The visitors met the powerful Riverina Football League in the decider. At half-time the visitors had not kicked a goal to the RFL’s five goals. They finally scored a major in the third quarter but still trailed by 30 points. In a barn- storming finish the BDL got up to win by a point. Maurice kicked four goals in the thrilling final quarter. “Our coach Dean Wall believed in us, he knew our styles of play and we just gelled, we clicked at the right time”, Maurice recalled.
When asked about accuracy in front of goal given that he kicked 25.3 in that record haul in a single match and 122.12 in season 2003, Maurice attributed credit to his junior coaches at Barellan, Col Male and Max Jamieson. “They taught me how to kick, and then I used to practice goal-kicking from different angles after school every day. We lived just across the road from the Sportsground”.
Maurice’s beloved Terrigal-Avoca will meet Newcastle City in this Saturday’s grand final of the Hunter Central Coast AFL at Killarney Vale. He will be there cheering them on and hoping to again party like its 1999.

Written by David Redden AFL HCC Black Diamond Cup Grand Final, Terrigal Avoca vs Newcastle City, 3.20pm, Adelaide St Oval The AFLHCC version of the Old Firm Derby, the two dominant sides of a generation meet for the third successive year in the Big Dance. How do Terrigal Avoca win? 1. Their back six/seven/eight shut down City and launch attacking raids off half-back. The Panthers superb de- fence is what coach Chris Bishop has instilled across all of their three grades, and if Jarrad Flint, Will Delahunty, Jay- son Van Dam, Harrison Bond, James Hart and Will McKellar are allowed to create third man in contests, City are in for a long day. Flint will look to repeat his best on ground performance from last year’s Grand Final, playing loose in the “sweeper” role for Bishop. 2. Control Conor Haswell, Matt Bailey and Reed van Huisstede. Haswell’s brilliant delivery and aerial skills are very damaging and Bishop will have put a lot of thought into controlling the League representative star, with Corbin Bond a possible defensive forward with responsibility for Haswell. Bailey is back from several years at Maher Oval playing for Turvey Park, and he has effectively replaced Mitchell Knight in the centre for City. Van Huisstede is one of the most dominant forwards in the competition and City need to place him into one -on-one contests as often as possible. 3. Goals from the midfield. Fleming, Grimmond, Ellis, Bishop himself and Price if fit all rotate through the midfield and provide crucial goal-scoring options for Terrigal Avoca if Ellis and Pete Van Dam are kept quiet. Fleming’s re- turn from a losing argument with the Adcock Park cricket square is very timely for the Panthers. 4. Keep the foot down, at all times. Complacency won’t be a problem, not after last year’s superb City comeback. If the Panthers get a sniff, watch them hunt in packs and build early scoreboard pressure. Get Mitchell Price onto the field. Price jarred his knee late in the Panthers’ semi-final win at Adelaide St Oval and the best ruckman in the League is pivotal to Terrigal Avoca’s structure. Unusually for a ruckman, Price’s delivery by foot is immaculate and his marking is peerless.
How do Newcastle City win? 1. They must score at least 70 points. In a relatively low-scoring League where defence is a major focus, kicking a minimum 11.4 means Terrigal Avoca can’t flood the backline all day. Van Huisstede, Haswell, the midfield and, im- portantly, Crawford must all contribute on the scoreboard. Jackson Crawford had a great Grand Final 13 months ago and must kick a bag of goals once again, Watch for City to push Ethan Durbridge into goal scoring range to add another option. 2. Bailey has to have a big game. Bailey v Bishop will be worth the price of admission alone. If Bailey has 30-plus touches, City will be very hard to stop. 3. O’Malley gets a minimum 25 possessions. The ultimate utility player, O’Malley has to negate Fleming, Grim- mond and Bishop. 4. Get the ball to Haswell & under-rated Durbridge, often. 5. Quinlan is dominant at centre half-back. The big man has a huge job, especially if Price, Pete Van Dam and Ellis rotate through half-forward. However, Max may end up spending time on young forward Harrison Pitt, in what be an excellent match-up of two young guns. Haswell steers the ship. It’s inconceivable that Bishop will let Haswell quarterback City, running alone and un- attended. Who wins this battle has one hand on the Black Diamond Cup?

AFLHCC Womens Grand Final, Newcastle City v Killarney Vale, 12.40pm, Adelaide St Oval Perennial Grand Finalists Newcastle City have been very solid, if not spectacular in 2020. A dominant performance in the semi-final, in which they destroyed Cardiff, has City primed for the massive task of taking on undefeated Mi- nor Premiers Killarney Vale, without the injured Sarah Halvorsen (knee) and Annalise Norton (finger) Key players for City are Meaghan MacDonald, Kate Handley, Molly Simpson and small forward Amy Pittman. Caitlin Holcombe will have her hands full when she rotates through the middle. Killarney Vale has taken all before them this season and will seek revenge after being eliminated by City in a simply pulsating Preliminary Final in the wet at Adelaide St in 2019. Hannah Page has come on in leaps and bounds this year in the ruck, with sister and skipper Ashleigh Page spending time rotating between the midfield and half- forward.
Youngster Kristen Kessler has been a revelation inside the forward 50, her speed and athleticism playing alongside the experienced Ange Jones pivotal to the Bombers unbeaten run so far.
Sasha Edwards is the midfield general for Killarney Vale, and Holcombe, given her fitness levels and aerobic capaci- ty, may spend time on Edwards in trying to negate the skilful Killarney Vale centre.
AFLHCC Black Diamond Shield Grand Final, Cardiff v Killarney Vale, 10:00am, Adelaide St Oval Undefeated Minor Premiers Cardiff will enter the Shield Grand Final full of confidence after a dominant Home & Away season, and are firm favourites against their vastly-experienced opponents Killarney Vale, on an historic day for the Bombers, with club legend Dane Amidy playing his 400th game for the club. In the forwards, Brendan Wold, Jared Campbell and Andrew Walker will keep Bombers very busy trying to contain the Cardiff key men. Campbell will feed off crash ball from Walker, whilst Wold will play out of the square, possibly having Bombers skipper Daniel Harvey for company most of the day.
Ruckman Matthew Holmes will line up against Liam Banfield in a very important one-on-one contest. Holmes, a State League basketballer only playing football due to Basketball being postponed due to COVID-19, has great aeri- al skills whilst Banfield is very handy around the ground.
Hamish Thompson runs the Cardiff backline in a calm and composed manner, and his rebound on the relatively short Adelaide St Oval will be important. Club stalwart Nick Kocon returns from injury and will play a utility role, moving from half-forward to half-back as required. Experienced Killarney Vale forwards Kyall Walford and Justin Daley quite simply have to fire for Newburn’s team to win. Walford is very skilful and an excellent long kick, whilst Daley’s sure hands and ability to use either side of his body is very important for the Bombers chances.
Harvey and Paul Blain have important roles across the backline, especially with key ruck Scott Wright ineligible to play, together with Matthew Weaver and Campbell Wilson, all of whom played too much Black Diamond Cup this year. Amidy will rotate between half-forward and midfield and will look to snag a couple of majors in his quite ex- traordinary 400th game for his beloved Bombers. Key, leftie midfielders Riley Weatherall and Hugh Wells have to get quality ball to Daley, Walford, Amidy and Marc Adams, who will probably spend time up forward in Weaver’s absence. The Hawks are favourites here, but they will be well-advised not be complacent of a Killarney Vale outfit playing in front of a passionate home crowd.

AFLHCC Black Diamond Plate Grand Final, Terrigal Avoca v Newcastle City, Bateau Bay Sports Facility, 11:00am Terrigal Avoca, a side full of Cup experience, will go about their duties in a quiet, unfussed, disciplined and ruthless fashion. They dismantled a gallant TEBB team in the semi-finals, with key forward Angus Quail kicking 8 goals in a dominant display However, unlike the previous two seasons, where the Panthers were undefeated and clear favourites, Terrigal Avo- ca head into the Plate Grand Final, given the dominant performances this year of their opponents, heavyweights Newcastle City. City produced an excellent Home & Away season, going 9-1 over 10 games and, importantly, convincingly defeating Terrigal Avoca twice, home and away. Then, in one of the more remarkable performances of recent times, City put on a superb and dominant display in their semi-final in Nelson Bay, defeating Wallsend-West Newcastle by 171 points.
City are clear favourites here, the Panthers must get away to a good start if they are to be with a serious chance against this balanced, even and hungry City outfit.
AFLHCC Black Diamond Plate Womens Grand Final, Lake Macquarie v Singleton, Bateau Bay Sports Facility, 1.40pm In a clash of clearly the two best sides in the Plate Women's Competition, Minor Premiers Lake Macquarie head into the Grand Final as firm favourites against a talented Singleton Roosters outfit.
The Dockers will need big games from Emma-Jayne Howe, Billie Schneeweiss and rugged on-baller Sheldon Janis- sen if they are to take out the inaugural Women's Plate competition. Both Howe and Schneeweis should be fresh after being rested for the last game of the Home & Away season, with Janissen and livewire Carla Hill having big days in their absence. The Jennings sisters, Isabella and Cleopatra, will need to get quality ball to the talented Dock- ers midfield on a regular basis. For Singleton, much depends on their big three of Tori Cowburn (surely headed for another Club Best & Fairest), rising star Kalani Bates and Kyah McBride. Bates and McBride have to: a. get their hands on the footy regularly, then; b. convert every possible opportunity into goals.
Cowburn, the dominant back of the competition, will launch attacking raids with her run and carry, with Bates loi- tering with intent across half-forward and McBride inside the forward 50m arc.
The Dockers are clear favourites but the Roosterettes will enter the Grand Final quietly confident of an upset.

BY ALEX TIGANI On the eve of the Singleton Roosterettes’ inaugural grand final we recognise that many relatives of our players will be unable to attend the big clash due to current border restrictions.
For Victorian recruits such as Madeline Edsell (Melbourne), Sarah Mousley (Geelong) and Claire Trouin (Gippsland), the Singleton Roosters AFC has al- most become a second home away from home while their state of origin re- mains in lockdown.
Thankfully, we still managed to track down a few significant figures to wish them well from afar!
THE EDSELL SISTERS
Brenna Edsall admits she counted down the years until her sister Madeline was old enough to join her on the basketball and netball court.
Growing up in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, the two sisters shared many on court memories with a handful of grand final appearances along the way.
“When she (Madeline) was 18 years old we were finally able to play basket- ball and netball together which was a memory,” Brenna recalled.
“There were grand finals along the way but many runners up titles so I think she deserves this one on the weekend.”
While they grew up in an AFL dominated state, the duo have only played one match together when representing the Singleton Roosterettes against The Entrance Bateau Bay in 2019.
“That was like the first time I had ever played a game of AFL and I had never done it before,” she continued.

“I rocked up to watch her play and ended up putting on someone else’s jumper; and that was that but I enjoyed it.”
Madeline’s vast improvement this season was recognised through her selection in the AFL Black Diamond Plate Women’s team of the year on Thursday.
When asked for advice for her younger sister, Brenna opted for some graphic motivation.“ There’s a saying our dad says,” she playfully concluded. “Kill, maim and dismember.”
MOUSLEY SISTERS Across Port Phillip Bay, Johanna Mousley (another one-time Singleton Roosterette) will be cheering on her younger sister from Geelong.
“I wish that the whole family could be up there to cheer Sarah on,” she admitted.“ I promise we will be there in spirit, and if you try and listen hard enough, you might even hear us cheering, all the way from Geelong.”
From Dawn to Dark, the Mousley sisters have spent many afternoons on the football field as umpires. “I remember Sarah umpiring an AFL with me at the tender age of 13 and confidently giving the crowd the finger when they bad mouthed her,” she recalled. “She had sass, even back then.
“I also think some of her greatest sporting moments growing up were in the rowing boat, she had amazing skill, determina- tion, and a beautiful ability to motivate others to form a cohesive and successful team, which led her to place fourth in Aus- tralia.”
Johanna has advised her younger sister to leave nothing in the tank, go hard and communicate well. “Remember, you truly are the better team; in spirit and skill,” she added.
“Oh, and remember you can go three minutes without breathing before you pass out, so even if you feel puffed or tired, keep going.”
Prior to Brenna Edsell’s cameo, Johanna would also be able to feature alongside her sister when the Roosterettes played off against Port Stephens.
“Playing with Sez last year was so much fun and so special,” she concluded. “I was instantly welcomed as part of the team and had an absolute ball.
“I remember before going on the ground, Sez joked that I was too scared to go hard. “I attempted to prove her wrong and, to date, still suffer a hamstring injury from this attempt….. over one year later. “My respect for her, and the whole teams’ fitness and skills, definitely soared after this experience.”
THE NEW RECRUIT Then there is the girl from Victoria’s far East. Enter Claire Truin.
The club’s first year recruit has transferred her netball skills to the football field with ease and she will have many family members tuning in to the stream from Traralgon.
She will also have plenty of support from her second family at the Lone Pine Army Barracks outside of Singleton. “From myself and all the team at the Barracks we have a great young leader in Claire,” Lieutenant Colonel James Smith ex- plained
“I know she will be out there playing hard against the opposition27 and she will have the full support of the army.”

Today is a massive day for hunter/central coast AFL. Today will be extra special for the entrance bateau bay football club ( passage road bateau bay) as not only are they holding grand finals, they are also hold- ing a fundraiser to raise some money for the Greentree family. As you would have heard , Shaun was involved in an incident a few weeks ago which has left him with some serious injuries. Shaun has fractured 3 vertebrae in his neck and has spinal cord damage. Shaun has now been moved from ICU into a rehab ward and has a long road to recovery. The club will be holding raffles all day and some silent auctions. There are some great prizes to be won which have been donated by local businesses. There are also some amazing items that will be held in a silent auction that will be running all day. In the silent auction we have a welder and face mask, 2007 Sydney swans jumper, a marriage ceremony valued at $950, a signed mariners jersey, a signed Chris Waller shirt, a 1999 Davis cup slazenger shirt signed by the winners and a John Newcombe racket. A young local rockstar by the name of Taj Fartant has donated a signed guitar. Taj has been all through America playing with the best guitarist in the world, been on the Ellen show twice and also Australia’s got talent. That’s just to name a few. Get down there and buy a few raffle tickets and maybe place a sneaky bid on the silent Auction. If you can’t make it down and wish to place a bid in the auction on a item, please contact Mathew Johnstone on 0450 090 425 for details.
