Role Profile

Cancer Research UK are proud of our exciting and diverse special events portfolio, delivered throughout the year by our skilled and dedicated events team.

We create innovative, dynamic and social events that raise vital funds to support our life saving research. As well as generating funds for our work, these events help raise awareness of the work we do and provide our supporters with exciting opportunities to meet like-minded people.

An important element of all of our events team are the passionate and enthusiastic teams of volunteers who help us to deliver our fundraising activities as well as provide guests with a brilliant experience throughout the evening.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities

Our key fundraising events are exclusive sit down dinners and the main fundraising activities tend to include raffles, silent and live auctions.

Volunteers are typically asked to carry out the following tasks: 1. Registration and ushering Registering guests on arrival using our online system Zkipster and ushering guests to their seats.

2. Table Hosting Being a point of contact for one or more tables, encouraging guests to take part in the fundraising activities by selling raffle tickets and highlighting the auction prizes on offer.

3. Auction Spotters Helping the auctioneer to spot bids throughout the room during the live auctions.

4. Payment Taking Taking payments on card machines.

Skills Required

 Excellent communication skills - Volunteers must feel comfortable speaking to guests, answering queries approaching guests and promoting fundraising activities throughout the night. Sales experience is advantageous.

 Confident using technology - Volunteers do not need previous experience with card payment machines as we can do a demonstration during volunteer briefing, however volunteers must feel comfortable processing payments of large sums after this.
