  • This Ain't a Scene, It's a Buzzer Race.Pdf
This Ain’t a Scene, It’s a Buzzer Race Sadboys are temporary. Sad trumpets are forever. Written by Brian Luong Tossups: 1. This band’s extensive and impressive merchandise catalogue can be attributed to guitarist Nick Steinhardt’s side occupation as a graphic designer. A live EP following this band’s sophomore studio album was titled Live on BBC Radio 1 and featured vocals from Jordan Dreyer of La Dispute. It’s not Red Hot Chili Peppers, but this band’s distinct asterisk-shaped logo was meant to evoke converging road markings leading to a sunset, and was first used in promotional artwork for the band’s second album, with that album’s initials “PTSBBAM” arranged in the negative spaces of the logo. This band’s 2016 single “Palm Dreams” was described by their frontman as a song about his inability to ask his mother about why she moved to California after she passed. The album from which that single is taken, as a whole, deals with themes of frontman Jeremy Bolm grieving the loss of his mother due to cancer. For 10 points, give the name of this Los Angeles-based post-hardcore band, which you may know from the albums Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me and Stage Four. ANSWER: Touché Amoré 2. This website once hosted a stand-up and sketch comedy tour titled All Comics Are Bastards. This website’s sister site was also responsible for the creation and management of the Twitter account of Ace Watkins, whose bio reads, “The only Gamer running for President of the United States”.

BRENT GREEN / A BRIEF SPARK BOOKENDED BY DARKNESS w/ The Messthetics CONTACT: Thomas O. Kriegsmann, President E [email protected] T 917.386.5468 www.arktype.org ABOUT A BRIEF SPARK BOOKENDED BY DARKNESS A wholly unique live cinema experiment live cinema conceived and illustrated by acclaimed filmmaker, mu- sician and author Brent Green, the work features live music by The Messthetics (Brendan Canty and Joe Lally of Fugazi with guitarist Anthony Pirog) and includes several short film works all narrated live with addition- al musical accompaniment. The full length evening of work includes A Brief Spark Bookended by Darkness, Carlin, Paulina Hollers, Hadacol Christmas and Strange Fates, along with Green’s own commentary and unfurl- ing rapport with the audience that defines the unique, localized experience of every engagement. A Brief Spark Bookended by Darkness is characterized by Green’s spindly drawing style and moving musical score guided by spoken lyrics in the artist’s inimitable, quivering voice. The story he recounts is caught up in despair and apprehension – as he seeks comfort by losing himself in his love of another. The world that Green presents is so intimate as to verge on the claustrophobic, a startling carnival set-up in a cramped bedroom. Though made to appear damaged and from another era, everything about A Brief Spark is calculated, consid- ered and timed to affect. All of this poignantly represents Green’s themes of deep and desperate love, in a world that is endlessly on the verge of calamity. 2 3 4 TOUR & PRODUCTION AVAILABILITY 2019-20 WORLDWIDE OPEN Production: Cinematic Video Projection Space: Black Box / Proscenium Band /Vocal Amplification Tour Personnel: 4 Performers Backline 1 Tech / Company Management Schedule: Same Day Load-in / Tech / Perform 5 COMPANY BIOGRAPHIES Working on his farm outside of New Paltz, NY, Brent urgent and inspired, and the portraits of musicians and Green is a self-taught visual artist and filmmaker.

  • Atom and His Package Possibly the Smallest Band on the List, Atom & His
Atom and His Package Possibly the smallest band on the list, Atom & his Package consists of Adam Goren (Atom) and his package (a Yamaha music sequencer) make funny punk songs utilising many of of the package's hundreds of instruments about the metric system, the lead singer of Judas Priest and what Jewish people do on Christmas. Now moved on to other projects, Atom will remain the person who told the world Anarchy Means That I Litter, The Palestinians Are Not the Same Thing as the Rebel Alliance Jackass, and If You Own The Washington Redskins, You're a ****. Ghost Mice With only two members in this folk/punk band their voices and their music can be heard along with such pride. This band is one of the greatest to come out of the scene because of their abrasive acoustic style. The band consists of a male guitarist (I don't know his name) and Hannah who plays the violin. They are successful and very well should be because it's hard to 99 when you have such little to work with. This band is off Plan It X records and they put on a fantastic show. Not only is the band one of the leaders of the new genre called folk/punk but I'm sure there is going to be very big things to come from them and it will always be from the heart. Defiance, Ohio Defiance, Ohio are perhaps one of the most compassionate and energetic leaders of the "folk/punk" movement. Their clever lyrics accompanied by fast, melodic, acoustic guitars make them very enjoyable to listen to.

There would be no Nirvana, Beastie Boys or Red Hot Chili Peppers were it not for hardcore pioneers such as Black Flag, Bad Brains and Minor Threat. Hardcore was more than music—it was a social movement created by Reagan-era misfit kids. The participants constituted a tribe unto themselves—some finding a voice, others an escape in the hard-edged music. And while some sought a better world, others were just angry and wanted to raise hell. AMERICAN HARDCORE traces this lost subculture, from its early roots in 1980 to its extinction in 1986. Page 2 ABOUT THE PRODUCTION Paul Rachman and Steven Blush met through the hardcore punk rock scene in the early 1980s. Steven promoted shows in Washington, DC, and Paul directed the first music videos for bands like Bad Brains and Gang Green.

  • How Much Art Can You Take?
HOW MUCH ART CAN YOU TAKE? I go to an art museum It’s more like a mausoleum — Really Red, “No Art In Houston” The term “Hardcore art” is an oxymoron. Hardcore types fancied themselves dismissive of all art. Theirs was an essentially undecorated, unadorned world. Yet the term will be useful herein. Hardcore communicated through low-tech graphics that read as art. Appropriated shards of advertising and photojournalism comprised stark stylistic hodge-podges announcing shows and records. The graphics, like the music, challenged brain-dead consumers, Reagan’s government, and multi- national corporations. WINSTON SMITH (artist): There was a drive to get away from fine, finished-looking work that looked like it came out of a record company art department. Instead of creating overblown work that makes the individual feel smaller, Hardcore made the individual feel included. It was not a glamour trip; the artwork was chaotic and spontaneous. Hardcore kids dismissed art as a bourgeois indulgence. Of course enough of it seeped into the mix to encourage an identifiable art style fusing collage, illustration and typography, almost always in black-and-white. A tribal iconography manifested itself in distinct record covers and gig flyers, with a politically incorrectness proclaiming, “This is hard-core.” GLENN DANZIG (The Misfits): It had a definite look and style — there’s an art to brutality. That’s why Example of Hardcore era art certain boxers are better than others — there’s an art. Flyer for Wasted Youth Reagan’s In album, 1981 Collection of the author Hardcore fans claimed to hate anything with “art school” pretense or pseudo-intellectualism, and felt “arty” types lacked intensity.

  • Shoulder Official Biography
Shoulder Official Biography This was originally the very first post. It has since been edited, ameliorated and reposted, with much more material in the download link (thanks to Ryan Moon and Doug MacGregor for all the help). So I am proud to present one of my absolute favorite bands, and all time favorite emo band, Shoulder. This band was from London, Ontario from 1994 to 1997. Bryan Webb (guitar, vocals), Chris Irwin (bass) and Doug MacGregor (drums) started jamming together in the fall of 1994, highly influenced by bands such as Fugazi, Hoover and Jawbox. During late 1994, Bry joined As We Speak to replace their original guitarist that had left the band. Shoulder’s sound then changed to a more mid-western emo sound, influenced by such bands as Split Lip, Endpoint, Falling Forward and Shotmaker. In March of 1995 they recorded their first demo at Studio 107 in London. These four songs were released on cassette tape. When rehearsing, the band often recorded various songs in their jam space (Bry’s basement) on a four-track recorder. Shoulder “Touch” CD/12″, Winter Records/Conquer the World Records, December 1995 Not very long after the demo’s release, Paul Bright, from As We Speak (which had recently broken up) joined Shoulder as guitarist. The band played some more shows in their local area and the rest of Ontario. In October of 1995, they recorded their first and only full-length, “Touch”, once again at Studio 107. The acoustic instrumentals between the songs were recorded by Chris Greenwood, and featured Vanessa Thatcher on violin.
