Houghton Mifflin Trade and Reference Division Houghton Mifflin Company traces its literary legacy back through the Trade and Reference Division. In 1832, William Ticknor and James Fields assembled one of the most distinguished list of writers ever associated with one American firm, including Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, John Greenleaf Whittier, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Oliver Wendell Holmes, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Today, the Trade and Reference Division publishes adult, children’s, and reference books, including twenty- seven Pulitzer Prize winners, nine National Book Award winners, ten recipients of Caldecott Medals, and ten recipients of Newbery Medals. Houghton Mifflin’s Children’s Book Group, comprising Houghton Mifflin Books for Children, Walter Lorraine Books, Clarion Books, Graphia Books, and Kingfisher, constitutes one of the richest backlists of children’s liter- ature in the industry. Today’s list of authors is just as impressive, boasting many award winners, including Lois Lowry, David Macaulay, Chris Van Allsburg, Karen Cushman, Russell Freedman, Linda Sue Park, and David Wiesner, just to name a few. This catalog includes all of our backlist children’s books, in print through December 2005. In an age where books come and go we strive to bring our readers quality books that transcend time and generations. We are proud to celebrate classic books, such as Curious George, Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, and Paul Gal- done’s The Three Billy Goats Gruff, which have remained in print decade after decade. As we grow and move into the future, we are always looking for books that stand the test of time. With the addition of the Kingfisher imprint to the Houghton Mifflin family we now round off our list with world-class atlases, encyclopedias, dic- tionaries, and an exciting new series written by veteran New York Times journalists. The Trade and Reference Division is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, with an additional office in New York City. www.houghtonmifflinbooks.com Prices subject to change. 3 of 37 Copyright © 2006 Houghton Mifflin Company.
