Violin Masterclass with Leonid Kerbel

Born in Kharkov (), Leonid Kerbel lives in . At the age of 4, he began his studies under prof. Kozlovicher at his native city, followed by prof. Yankilevich with whom he studied in . At the age of 11 he immigrated to where he continued his studies with prof. Felix Andtrievsky and prof. Yair Kless. He finished his studies in Brussels with prof. Phillipe Hirshhorn and in with prof.Rosa Fain. Leonid Kerbel is a laureate and a first prize winner of the Rubin Academy () solo and chamber music compositions as well as the Clairmont competition. He performed with world-renowned artists such as Paul Badura-Skoda, Sidney Harth, Mark Lubotsky and Gavriel Lipkind. He performs regularly as a soloist, concertmaster and leader of chamber music formations around Europe, and the USA and has recorded for the Israeli radio, BRTN, RTBF and USA National radio. Leonid Kerbel takes part in festivals such as Festival van Vlaanderen, Mozart Festival, Festival de Minimes and Festival de l'été Mosan. Often invited for recitals Leonid Kerbel was asked for a special recital in honour of the Belgian Royal famiy for the 175th birthday of the monarchy. He made several Cd and Dvd recordings in various chamber music formations. First violin of the Gertler string quartet, Horta string quartet and the Contrast string quartet. Currently Leonid Kerbel is a founder and a member of the Trio Sonnetto in which he collaborates with the Eliane Reyes and the cellist Aleksandr Khramouchin. Leonid gave masterclasses in the "Sewanee Summer Music Festival" in the USA for 15 years. Since his arrival to Belgium in 1988 he devotes his time mainly to teaching, music education, solo and chamber music performances. Leonid Kerbel teaches in Brussels. Several of his students won national and international prizes; others continued their studies in prestigious music schools through out Europe. His style of teaching and the art of performing are influenced by masters such as Joseph Gingold, Rosa Fain, Isaac Stern, William Pleeth, Janos Starker, Adolf Bush and Leonid Kogan. In 1999, he founded the "Musica Mundi International Chamber Music Course and Festival" for young talented musicians to which he brings famous artists such as , Mischa Maisky, Heinrich Schiff ,, Jordy Savall, Borodin quartet, Petersen quartet, Rudolph Buchbinder, Fazil Say, The King's Singers & Dietrich Henschel, to mention a few.
