Arts with scientific supervisor Prof. Dr. Milena Shushulova-Pavlova Milko Milkov graduated from the Dobri Hristov High School of Music in Varna and the National Academy of Music “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov ” in Sofia, in the piano class of professors Julia and Konstantin Ganevi. In the period 1993-1995, with a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture of Italy, he specialized in the master classes of the Academy of Music "Santa Cecilia" - Rome (Italy), where he studied piano with Maestro Sergio Perticaroli and chamber music with Maestro Felix Ayo. Participates in master classes on interpretation of Professors Marcello Abado (Italy), Germain Munier (France) and Lev Naumov (Russia). Milko Milkov is the winner of the 1st prize of the National Competition "Svetoslav Obretenov" - Provadia; He is a laureate of the International Competition for Pianists "Senigallia" - Italy and the International Competition for Young Musicians "Trofeo di Tortona" - Italy. Participates in a number of music festivals, including the International Music Festival "Trinita' dei Monti" in Rome, the International Music Festival "Varna Summer", "European Music Festival", the International Music Festival "Sofia Music Weeks" and others. Milkov carries out joint projects - concerts and recordings, with musicians such as pianist Yovcho Krushev, clarinetist Borislav Yotsov, cellists Stanimir Todorov, Hristo Tanev and Antonio Mostaci (Italy), violinists Dimitar Burov and Varti Manuelyan, singers Tatiana Davidova and Julian Konstantinov. -

Settecento, ed àuspice Giambattista Sanmartini, di regolari e frequenti concerti orchestrali nel cortile del Palazzo Sforzesco, se ebbe storico rilievo nella formazione della sinfonia, non mancò di influire anche sulla costituzione dell’or chestra destinata agli spettacoli lirici e coreografici della Scala: e invero, sin dall’inaugurazione del teatro — avvenuta nel 1778 con /’Europa Ri conosciuta di Salieri — l’orchestra scaligera presenta un organico di settanta elementi, cifra assai superiore allo standard teatrale dell’epoca. Gli statuti del 1802 e l’assunzione di uno stabile maestro al cembalo nella persona del Lavigna, maestro di Verdi, ne vanno poi progressi vamente migliorando l’efficienza, sì che nel 1830 l’inglese William Staf- ford può constatare come l’orchestra della Scala sia « migliore e più numerosa che in qualsiasi altra città italiana ». Stabilizzatosi sugli ottanta elementi, l’organico viene elevato nel 18J5 a cento da Franco Faccio: il quale estende insieme l’attività dell’or chestra al settore sinfonico, allora pressoché sconosciuto in Italia. Al l’Esposizione Universale di Parigi (1878) la rinnovata orchestra della Scala incontra entusiastiche accoglienze; l’anno seguente si costituisce la Società Orchestrale della Scala, e le stagioni liriche avranno perma nenie complemento sinfonico. Applaudita nelle principali città d’Italia, ma ancora in Francia, in Gran Bretagna e in Svizzera, l’orchestra della Scala, nel quarantennio precedente la prima guerra mondiale, vedrà sul podio i pionieri Faccio, Mancinelli e Martucci, seguiti da Toscanini, Guarnieri, Serafin, Mascagni, Gui, Marinuzzi; ed ospiti stranieri innu meri, da Lamoureux a Nikisch, da Fri ed a Schuricht. -

Orchestra for the Next Century, Gary M. Schneider, Music Director, follows up its acclaimed NY debut in February at the Ecstatic Music Festival with a tribute to the great Swiss conductor and musical philanthropist Paul Sacher in a concert on April 30, 2013 at 8:00 pm at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City. The concert features two works Sacher commissioned from Stravinsky and Martinů paired with recent works by distinguished American composers Margaret Brouwer and Paul Moravec. Igor Stranvinsky’s Concerto in D for String Orchestra and Bohuslav Martinů’s Double Concerto for Two String Orchestras, Piano and Timpani are among the many important works Sacher commissioned for his Basel Chamber Orchestra. Through his commissioning of new works from many of the most important composers of the 20th century, Sacher is responsible for the existence of an amazing number of landmark compositions, many of which entered the repertory and are performed every year in concert halls around the world. The concert will also include the New York premier of Margaret Brouwer’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, featuring the acclaimed Japanese-American violinist Michi Wiancko, for whom it was written. -

Citymusic Cleveland Schedules Hybrid Chamber Music Concerts by Daniel Hathaway
CityMusic Cleveland schedules hybrid chamber music concerts by Daniel Hathaway Pivoting from its customary chamber orchestra concerts, last September CityMusic Cleveland announced a series of chamber music programs curated by members of the ensemble celebrating the centenary of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which decreed that “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” Initially offered as live, in-person events for a reduced audience of 100 at the Shrine Church of St. Stanislaus, the series went online after the first two programs due to the progress of the pandemic. Subsequent concerts have been streamed from the Maltz Performing Arts Center. Beginning this week, CityMusic will present pairs of performances — one in-person concert at St. Stan’s, followed by a second performance of the same program streamed from the Maltz. Executive director Eugenia Strauss noted in a press release that the chamber music format will be continued in 2021-2022, when seven groups will be invited to build programs around the themes of peace, equality, and justice, drawing largely on works by female composers and including commissioned pieces. “We hope to return to present orchestral programs in the 22-23 season,” Strauss wrote. NOTE: In-person programs will be performed at the Shrine Church of St. Stanislaus for a limited, socially distanced audience of 100 people. CityMusic Cleveland follows all Center for Disease Control and State of Ohio health guidelines with respect to the safety of our audiences and performers. -

But following this anniversary there is some sad news, with the recent passing of our President, Jeanie, Countess of Carnarvon. Her energy, commitment and enthusiasm from the outset and throughout the evolution of the Festival have been fundamental to its success. The Duchess of Kent and I have seen the Festival grow from humble beginnings to an internationally renowned arts festival, having faced and overcome many obstacles along the way. Jeanie, Countess of Carnarvon, can be justly proud of the Festival’s achievements. Photo credit: Vanessa Francia The programme for the 2021 Venice Music Biennale, one of the six Biennale di Venezia that showcase the best in contemporary Architecture, Art, Dance, Film, Music and Theatre, has been announced by Artistic Director Lucia Ronchetti. For her first Biennale as Artistic Director the Italian composer is presenting 15 world premieres over 10 days of performances across Venice under the heading of ‘Choruses.’ ‘Choruses’ will focus on contemporary choral writing through performances of new commissions and some of the most important works of the last 50 years that explore the human voice. The Venice Music Biennale 2021 is fostering a dialogue between the Venetian past and the present, and the possible renaissance of vocal polyphony through performances from major Venetian organisations across the city. The 65th Music Biennale will welcome major European vocal and choral ensembles such as Theatre of Voices from Copenhagen, Neue Vocalsolisten from Stuttgart, Accentus choir from Paris, vocal ensemble Sequenza 9.3 from Paris and SWR Vokalensemble from Stuttgart, as well as the renowned historical Venetian choirs the Cappella Marciana di San Marco and the choir of the Teatro La Fenice. The Festival will open at the Teatro La Fenice with a performance of Oltra mar for choir and orchestra by Kaija Saariaho, winner of the Golden Lion for Music, whose chamber work Only the sound remains will also be presented at the Teatro Malibran.
