Detoxification and Traditional Hatha Yoga(New)
Detoxification in Hatha Yoga and Ayurveda By Mas Vidal Introduction The Hatha Yoga Pradipika (HYP) is a unique text of the Nath yogis that enumerates some interesting methods for purifying the body. Swami Svatmarama, the chief disciple of Swami Goraknath authored it during the medieval period. Evidently, Matsyendranath, founder of the Nath (synonym for Shiva) cult along with Goraknath understood clearly the importance of mind- body purification as requisites for spiritual evolution and thus created a six-fold system (shat- karma) of detoxification. This popular yoga text is composed of four chapters. In brief, the first chapter deals with postural yoga (asana); chapter two deals with the six actions of purification (shatkarma and pranayama); chapter three describes the physical gestures and energy locks (mudras and bandhas), and chapter four discusses spiritual liberation (samadhi). The placement of the shat-karmas (purification practices) in the second chapter prior to the last chapter on samadhi (liberation) indicates the importance of having a clean bodily house to attain spiritual freedom. This article highlights the correlation the detoxifying actions described in chapter two of the HYP with those mentioned in the main Ayurvedic text, Charaka Samhita. Interestingly, the HYP methods have much in common with those used in Ayurveda, yoga’s sister science of self-healing. Similarly, Ayurvedic mastermind Charaka, devised a five-fold system (pancha karma) for purification of the doshas (vata, pitta & kapha) to improve the mind-body relationship. The concept of detoxification, which boldly appears in both yoga and ayurvedic systems, demonstrates a long history of inter-connectedness between the two sciences. -

A translation of the Vijñāna-bhairava-tantra (complete but lacking commentary) ©2017 by Christopher Wallis aka Hareesh Introductory verse (maṅgala-śloka): “Shiva is also known as ‘Bhairava’ because He brings about the [initial awakening that makes us] cry out in fear of remaining in the dreamstate (bhava-bhaya)—and due to that cry of longing he becomes manifest in the radiant domain of the heart, bestowing absence of fear (abhaya) for those who are terrified. He is also known as Bhairava because he is the Lord of those who delight in his awesome roar (bhīrava), which signals the death of Death! Being the Master of that flock of excellent Yogins who tire of fear and seek release, he is Bhairava—the Supreme, whose form is Consciousness (vijñāna). As the giver of nourishment, he extends his Power throughout the universe!” ~ the great master Rājānaka Kṣemarāja, c. 1020 CE Like most Tantrik scriptures, the Vijñāna-bhairava-tantra (c. 850 CE) takes the form of a dialogue between Śiva and Śakti, here called Bhairava and Bhairavī. It begins with the Goddess asking Bhairava: śrutaṃ deva mayā sarvaṃ rudra-yāmala-saṃbhavam | trika-bhedam aśeṣeṇa sārāt sāra-vibhāgaśaḥ || 1 || . 1. O Lord, I have heard the entire teaching of the Trika1 that has arisen from our union, in scriptures of ever greater essentiality, 2. but my doubts have not yet dissolved. What is the true nature of Reality, O Lord? Does it consist of the powers of the mystic alphabet (śabda-rāśi)?2 3. Or, amongst the terrifying forms of Bhairava, is it Navātman?3 Or is it the trinity of śaktis (Parā, Parāparā, and Aparā) that [also] constitute the three ‘heads’ of Triśirobhairava? 4. -

This pressure creates imbalance in personal as well as professional life of employees. Employees feel stressed because of this pressure. This stress later on becomes chronic in nature. Various companies organize different stress management programs but they are not so effective. Yoga is a simple & effective way to overcome stress in employees as it is easy to operate at workplace and easy to understand. It is a proven cure to stress among employees at workplace in many studies. Purpose – Corporate sector employees have heavy workloads most of the times because of competiveness & many other factors. This causes stress in lot of employees, sometimes positive stress and sometimes severe/acute stress. Yoga is very helpful in stress management as Yoga calms the mind & reduces stress. In this paper, we will try to figure out the effectiveness of Yoga in stress management at workplace in corporate sector personnel. Methodology– A review of literature from Indian as well as international authors was examined to identify the effects of Yoga in stress management in employees at workplace. Findings – It was found that Yoga is very helpful for employees to reduce stress levels at workplace. Yoga is revealed as a great tool in stress management in corporate sector employees. -

Introduction to Hatha Yoga CLASS-VI 3 Notes INTRODUCTION TO HATHA YOGA Hatha yoga is an ancient spiritual yogic practice. The word 'Hatha' is composed of two syllables 'Ha' and 'Tha' which denote the 'Pingala' and the 'Ida', the vital and the mental, the solar and the lunar energies in the human system. It is the science of creating a harmony between these two energies within us so as to help us to achieve a higher consciousness in life. Classical Hatha yoga has five limbs, which are; ¾ Shatkarma:This is the six purificatory or cleansing practices, namely; • Neti • Dhauti • Basti • Nauli • Kapalbhati • Trataka OBE-Bharatiya Jnana Parampara 39 Introduction to Hatha Yoga CLASS-VI ¾ Asana: This is the physical postures. It is to gain steadiness of body and mind, freedom from disease and the lightness of limbs. Notes ¾ Pranayama: This brings the purification of the Nadis, The experience of the Pranic field, increase in the quantum of Prana and eventually leads the mind into meditation. ¾ Mudra: This is a gesture which controls and channelize the Prana (life force) in a particular way. ¾ Bandha: This means to lock or to stop. In the practice of a Bandha, the energy flow to a particular area of the body is blocked. In it there is a description of many topics related to spirituality such as Mana, Atma, Parmatma, Adhyatmika Guna, Adhyatmika Dravya, etc. Besides this, Yoga Darshan has a great impact on Ayurveda. In Ayurveda, Yoga is a way to achieve the Moksha. According to Yoga Shastra, the Sukshma sharira is the part of our body and it is the moderator of the whole body. The person can't see or touch it, because it is the energy flow of our body. This is the reason it is called “Urja Nikaya”. There are such key points in the Sukshma sharira that is known as energy centre or Chakras. The Chakras have been known by Yogis, Rishis, and sages of various traditions of Yoga in India and all over world. They have been seen, not by physical dissection of the body, but by psychic introspection. Chakras are energy centers in the body that play an important role in our physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. Our body has seven major Chakras. The six main Chakras located along the spinal column are: Muladhara, Swadhisthana, Manipura, Anahata, Vishuddha and Ajna. Beyond the six are two other centers of awakening: Bindu and Sahastrara, whose perception is acquired only at significantly evolved states of consciousness. -

Marma points are important vital places in the body, that are the ‘seats of life’ (Prana - the vital life force). As any injury to these parts may lead to severe pain, disability, loss of function, loss of sensation, or death, therefore, they hold an important place in the science of surgery, wherein they are considered ‘Shalya Vishayardha’ (half of the entire science of surgery). The ancient scriptures have strictly directed against causing any injury to these vital spots. However, recent researches have attempted the stimulation of Marma points for theraputic benefits, with encouraging outcomes. In view of these mutually conflicting, importance applications of Marma Science, the present study was undertaken for its in-depth study. Part-1 of this study presented the information about different aspects of Marma Science in various ancient / classical Indian scriptures. Part-2 gave a detailed description of the number of marmas, their location, structures involved, classification, effect of trauma, etc., as per classical texts, as well as correlation with modern science. -

According to the classical definition by Patanjali, yoga means controlling the modifications of mind. The hatha yoga cleansing processes have been placed into six groups of purification practices known as shatkarmas, the six shatkarmas are neti, dhouti, nauli, basti, kapalbhati, and tratak, trataka is intense gazing of a point developing concentration and cleansing the mind. Heart rate variability (HRV) is the physiological phenomenon of variation in the time interval between heartbeats. It is measured by the variation in the beat-to-beat interval of the ECG wave. For the present study total 08 university levels students (04 male groups and another 04 female groups) were purposively selected from Dept. of Physical Education, Vinaya-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, Bolpur, West Bengal, India. Their age ranges from 18-22 years. The study was conducted during the year 2017-20118 academic sessions in the institute laboratory. -

Perfec yoga real people real y oga International Yoga Teacher Training Course This is a 200 hours Yoga Alliance, US registered Yoga Teacher-Training Course. The duration for the weekend course is spread over 3 months plus while for the weekday course is 2 months. It is a full 200 hours contact with master teacher and including reading, audio/video, group discussion, assignment and assessment from the master teacher. Training methodology: Well researched and tested combinations of theory, practical and self-practice are used to bring out the best in every practitioner. Aim: The course equips the participants with knowledge and firsthand experience of yoga, history of yoga, classical texts of yoga, and application of anatomy and physiology (both eastern and western), philosophy, yoga psychology, teaching methodology, practical knowledge and techniques to perform various yogic practices, modern trends in yoga and ethics of yoga. Paduka Panchaka
Author: Swami Purnananda (1526 CE) Commentary: Kalicarana in Sanskrit Translation: Sir John Woodroffe Paduka Pancaka is a supplement to Sat-Chakra Nirupana, the Premier Composition on Kundalini Chakras. The Commentary was by Kalicarana in Sanskrit. This article is about Kundalini Chakras as described by Swami Purnananda. Go to Kundalini Power for more details on Kundalini Yoga. Paduka pancha (Fivefold Footstool) Meditation on Paduka Pancha brings liberation-- Author Swami Purnananda. (1526 CE) PAdukA , the Footstool consists of: (1) The (twelve-petalled) Lotus; (2) the triangle A-Ka-Tha in its pericarp (3) the region of the Nāda, Bindu, and Mani-pītha in it; (4) the Haṁsa below; and (5) the triangle on the Mani-pītha. Footstool is euphemism for the five sacred elements in Sahasrara listed above. One should meditate on and worship this five-fold stool to attain liberation from the sea of Samsara (cycle of birth, death and rebirth). PUrnAnanda a Brahmana of Kasyappa Gotra wrote Sat-Chakra-Nirupana in 1526 CE ( SAka year 1448) and achieved Siddhi in VasisthAsrama, about seven miles from Gauhati, Assam, India. He wrote many other Tantrik works. This work is part of Sri-Tattva-Cintamani. Paduka Pancaka (Panchaka Paduka = five fold footrest) is meditation of five elements in Sahasrara Chakra: 12-petalled Lotus, A-Ka-Tha Triangle, Nada-Bindu-Mani-Pitha, Hamsa, and Triangle on the Manipitha. Pādukā means a footstool (Pada-rakṣanā-dhāra). The five of these are: (1) The (twelve- petalled) Lotus; (2) the triangle A-Ka-Tha in its pericarp (3) the region of the Nāda, Bindu, and Mani-pītha in it; (4) the Haṁsa below; and (5) the triangle on the Mani-pītha.
