CONSERVATORY (All Grades)

Application & YouTube Video Submission Please submit a completed application and YouTube video no more than 3 minutes in length, based upon the guidelines described below..

Video Content Guidelines Each video should have 3 components: Introduction/Slate, Vocal Selection, Storytelling. ​ Introduction/Slate, Vocal Selection and Story should be uploaded as one video. Full length of video should be no longer than 3 minutes.

Introduction/Slate Please start your video with an introduction that includes 1) your name, 2) the title of the song you will be singing, 3) the grade you are applying to. Be sure to indicate if you are a current OCSA student, and, if so, which conservatory you are in.

Vocal Selection Prepare one vocal selection, up-tempo or ballad (16-32 bars, approximately 30-90 seconds). Singing with a track (or live pianist) is preferred, but a cappella singing will be accepted. Musical Theatre material is preferred, but you may sing material outside of the Broadway landscape.

Helpful Tip: Sing a song you LOVE to sing!

In addition to published works from musical scores or popular sheet music, some of the following titles are available at bookstores, libraries, and online. Workshop/Review material is not limited to these titles but should be appropriate to the student’s vocal range and style. ● Singer’s Musical Theatre Anthology Series by various authors ​ ● The Big Book of Broadway by Hal Leonard Publishing ​ ● Broadway Showstoppers by Hal Leonard Publishing ​ ● Singers may also want to choose works by the following composers: , Stephen Flaherty, George Gershwin, , Frank Loesser, , Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Schwartz, Charles Strouse, or Jules Styne (you are not limited to these composers). Prepare a response/statement to the following question “What is your favorite Musical or Musical ​ Movie… and why?” to demonstrate your interest in our Conservatory. ​

Your response should be 30-60 seconds (brief), and include the title of a musical and an explanation as to why it resonates with you personally. This is a chance for us to get to know YOU better, so please allow your answer to come from YOUR point of view.

Video Submission Guidelines: ● To protect your privacy, the YouTube video should be saved as “UNLISTED” so it cannot be publicly viewed. ● Copy and paste your YouTube video URL (web address) directly into your conservatory application. ● YouTube videos must be included at the same time as the application submission. ● YouTube videos should have no disruptive background noise, good lighting, and a framing that views ¾ of the student’s body in the video. Horizontal setting is preferred. ● Once your YouTube video has been submitted to OCSA, the submission is final and changes cannot be made. ● Applications that do not have a working YouTube video link will be considered incomplete and will be delayed in processing. ● YouTube videos should be specifically produced for your OCSA workshop/review. Do not include filmed excerpts from previous stage performances. ● Please do not wear a costume or use a handheld microphone. No electronic vocal enhancement is necessary. No lip synching.
