A Musical Fable of Broadway August 30 & 31 VICTORYVICTORY PRODUCTIONS PRODUCTIONS PRESENTSPRESENTS A Musical Fable of Broadway Based on a Story and Characters of DAMON RUNYON August 30 & 31 ~ September 1 & 2 July 14 & 15 ~ July 23 & 24 www.TheVillagesEntertainment.com NOTE FROM DIRECTOR Welcome to The Legends of Broadway Series! Our goal at Victory Productions is to create innovative and exciting productions of some the greatest musicals of all time, especially for you, our beloved Villages audience. We began this series with the classic South Pacific, and now bring you one of the classiest, sassiest, and brassiest of them all - Frank Loesser’s love letter to Broadway GUYS AND DOLLS. Based on the stories of Damon Runyon, GUYS AND DOLLS tells two love stories: the lopsided romance of gambler Sky Masterson and missionary Sister Sarah Brown, and the long-suffering nightclub chanteuse Miss Adelaide’s attempts to finally marry her fiancé of 14 years, the lovable but commitment-phobic Nathan Detroit. Surrounding them are the funniest, most colorful assortment of gamblers, gangsters, showgirls, and Broadway lowlifes you are likely to see. GUYS AND DOLLS is one of the most popular and often revived musicals of all time, and for good reason. Its combination of character, wit, and heart, along with a score that features Luck Be a Lady, Adelaide’s Lament, I’ve Never Been in Love Before, and Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat have earned it a place as a Broadway Legend. Thanks for being part of our audience - we hope to bring you more of your favorite shows in the time to come, with some of the most talented performers you’ll ever see. Enjoy the show! Reviews Keith Loria, on theatermania.com, called the show “a tender glimpse into the Hineses’ rise to fame and a touching tribute to a brother.” Benjamin Tomchik wrote in Broadway World, that the show “seems determined not only to love the audience, but to entertain them, and it succeeds at doing just that! While Tappin' Thru Life does have some flaws, it's hard to find anyone who isn't won over by Hines showmanship, humor, timing and above all else, talent.” In The Washington Post, Nelson Pressley wrote, “’Tappin’ is basically a breezy, personable concert. The show doesn’t flinch from hard-core nostalgia; the heart-on-his-sleeve Hines is too sentimental for that. It’s frankly schmaltzy, and it’s barely written — it zips through selected moments of Hines’s life, creating a mood more than telling a story. it’s a pleasure to be in the company of a shameless, ebullient vaudeville heart.” Maurice Hines Is .

Cy Feuer was at the center of these creations, as well as the films based on two of Broadway s most exceptional musicals, Cabaret and A Chorus Line. He was the man in charge, the one responsible for putting everything together, and almost more important for holding it together. • THE SPRING MUSICAL: Guys and Dolls
UNIVERSITY HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTS THE SPRING MUSICAL: Guys and Dolls Music and Lyrics by: Frank Loesser Book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows APRIL 25, 26 & 27, 2013 AT 7:30 P.M. A smash hit that first ignited Broadway in 1950, Guys and Dolls is a fun-loving musical set in the New York underworld of the 1920's. It tells the story of Nathan Detroit, a gambler who runs a famous "floating" craps game, much to the distress of his long- suffering fiancée, the Hot Box Nightclub singer, Adelaide Adams. Nathan finds himself short on the cash he needs to keep his craps game afloat, so he bets $1000 on what he believes is a sure thing: Sky Masterson, a high rolling, suave gambler boasts that he could get any "doll" he wanted, so Nathan bets him that he can't get the local "Save a Soul" missionary, Sarah Brown, to come to dinner with him in Havana. Sarah is reluctant, so Sky in turn guarantees her that he will provide twelve "genuine sinners" for her failing prayer meeting if she joins him for dinner. So, Sky needs sinners to win Sarah, Sarah needs Sky to help save her mission, Adelaide wants to turn her fourteen-year engagement into a wedding, and Nathan is just trying to keep his craps game afloat, keep Adelaide happy, and not get arrested by the local cops. Packed with some of Broadway's most beloved songs, such as "Sit Down You're Rockin the Boat," "Fugue for Tinhorns," and "Luck Be a Lady," Guys and Dolls is an exuberant musical guaranteed to delight! The first challenge of the choreography was casting the show. The li mited number of actors who could both si ng and dance meant a compromise had to be made between the choreographer and musical director. Faced with only having five trained dancers in the final cast, I not only had to choreograph the dances, but teach the cast how to dance as well. There was also the challenge of stayi ng true to my origi nal concepts of each musical number, while at the same time choreographing to the director's vision and concept. The final challenge was time. I was constantly aware of the fact that I had over ten musical numbers and only fo ur weeks complete the task.
