Burnistoun’s Big Night  NEW Monday 17 August BBC One Scotland. 10.35-11.15pm bbc.co.uk/burnistoun

Burnistoun’s Big Night is a hilarious snapshot of a town letting its hair down featuring familiar faces and one-off comic scenarios from the popular comedy show. Following characters from the first drink of the night to the last dip of pakora in the wee small hours, some of Burnistoun’s best-loved characters are back including Jolly Boy John, Quality Polis McGregor and Toshan, best mates Scott and Peter plus the “Up the Road” guys. Meanwhile the selection of new sketches includes beardie hipsters Niko and Kiko, cocktail-sipping ‘Exclusive Girls’ and extended repercussions as a treatment for erectile dysfunction works a wee bit too well. There’s a glimpse of Burnistoun’s hoi polloi in high-class toilets and chippies, questionable boxing advice courtesy of the Bryce brothers and birthday party guests driving their mate, Barry, mad. Plus the Radio Burnistoun DJs keep things moving as “the best wee city on God’s Green Earth” lets its hair down on a Saturday night. This special edition of Burnistoun sees a welcome return for the star writer-performer duo of Robert Florence and Iain Connell alongside Louise Stewart and Gerry McLaughlin and the show welcomes Burnistoun newcomers Jane McCarry and Holly Jack. Burnistoun’s Big Night is a Comedy Unit production for BBC One Scotland.

TUESDAY 18 AUGUST TELEVISION & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS / BBC WEEK 33 ______

River City Tuesday 18 August BBC One Scotland HD, 8.00 – 9.00pm bbc.co.uk/rivercity facebook.com/bbcrivercity twitter.com/bbcrivercity instagram.com/bbcrivercity

This week in Shieldinch…Alan drowns his sorrows, alienating everyone and putting himself in grave danger; Lenny mixes business with pleasure with disastrous consequences; and battle lines are drawn between Angus and Buster. In the wake of losing both Grace and Kirsty, Alan turns to alcohol to forget. After Angus catches his dad buying yet more whisky he gives him an earful, prompting Alan to take control. However, the reunion with Kirsty doesn’t go well and his pleas for her to come home fall on deaf ears. Seeing his father so broken, Angus spends some quality time at home with Alan. It’s a turning point, as Alan reminisces over good times and stays sober for the night. However, the next morning, Alan takes on work at the former travellers’ site which proves too much for him, driving him back to drink – with potentially fatal consequences. Elsewhere, Lenny basks in the glory of his new relationship with Erin. So when a golden business opportunity comes calling through Erin’s former boss, Lenny thinks he’s on a winning streak and jumps at the offer. Not least because it gives him a chance to get one over on Alex McAllister. But Lenny’s about to find out all is not as it seems. Angus spots a chance to make a fast buck with Bob by selling t-shirts with Buster’s catchphrase ‘It’s Yersel’ on them – much to the annoyance of the wrestler.

Alan is played by Stephen McCole, Lenny by Frank Gallagher, Angus by Scott Fletcher, Buster by Graeme Stevely, Kirsty by Bobby Rainsbury, Erin by Emma Hartley-Miller, Alex McAllister by Jordan Young and Bob by Stephen Purdon.
