8th World Kungfu Championships Emeishan, China 8th World Kungfu Championships Emeishan, China A Brief Introduction to Emeishan City Emeishan City is located on the southwestern edge of Sichuan Basin with an area of 1,183 square kilometres. Mount Emei is a cultural and natural heritage of the world and a national AAAAA scenic area. With the rich cultural deposits and tourism resources, Emeishan is an excellent tourist city in China and an emerging tourist city in Asia. Emeishan is rich in resources and has the most typical and best preserved subtropical vegetations in the world. With more than 3,700 types of higher plants, accounting for one tenth of the total amount in the country, the city is known as the “Botany Kingdom”; with more than 2,300 types of wild animals, it is known as the “Animal Kingdom”; with 63.3% of the forest coverage rate, it is known as the “Natural Oxygen Bar”; with most townships located at the elevation between 800 and 1,500 meters, it is also known as “Emei Nanshan” Health Preservation Resort. Yellow Emperor, Emperor Taizong of Song, Emperor Kangxi, Li Bai, Su Shi, Xu Xiake, Sun Simiao, Nan Huaijin, Deng Xiaoping, Guo Moruo, Xi Jinping, etc. have all been on Mount Emei, leaving many anecdotes. At present, Emeishan City has expanded the “nine-in-one” industrial chain including a cup of tea, a bottle of wine, a bucket of water, a bowl of soup, a set of quan, a scene of play, a piece of song, a piece of needle and an event of exhibition. A set of quan here is just the epitome of the development of our Emei wushu. Emeishan is the origin of Emei wushu, which was legendarily evolved from Tongbei Quan, founded by Situ Xuankong during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, and now Zhongfeng Temple has been proven as the birthplace of Emei wushu. The five thousand years of history has nurtured the splendid civilization and created the beautiful Emei. Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism have been collided, blended, developed and innovated here for thousands of years, forming the primary Emeishan Culture with the core of “Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, food, tea, wushu and medicine”. In the new era, Emeishan will continue to enhance the popularity and reputation of “Grand Emei” world-class tourism and culture brand and strive to create the “Model City of Green Hills and Clear Waters”. 8th World Kungfu Championships Emeishan, China Contents 1. I wish the 8th World Kungfu Championships a complete success! Zhang Qiuping President of Chinese Wushu Association 2 8th World Kungfu Championships Emeishan, China Speech from General Manager of HengYuanXiang Dear athletes, Dear wushu enthusiasts from all over the world, Hello! In June the IWUF 8th World Kungfu Championships will be held in Emeishan, Sichuan, China. On behalf of the International Wushu Federation’s global partner Heng Yuan Xiang (Group) Co., Ltd. (HYX), I wish great success for this event. Based on a mutual appreciation for wushu, the partnership between Heng Yuan Xiang and the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) began in 2012. Through our continued and growing involvement in the sport and open communication with the IWUF, HYX has come to further understand wushu, love wushu, and work to build wushu’s cultural “brand.” Our own brand “Heng Yuan Xiang” is a name that incorporates the essence of traditional Chinese culture: “Heng” represents the right time, “Yuan” means the right place, and “Xiang” stands for the right people. “Being at the right place at the right time with the right people” is the same spirit that wushu embodies; we believe that wushu is not found only in competition, but also as part of a healthy lifestyle, and that wushu should be enjoyed by all mankind. With common goals such as these, it is only natural that we have become a global partner of the IWUF, and look forward to the future as wushu enthusiasts’ participation continues to grow. May the IWUF 8th World Kungfu Championships be a complete success! Richard Chen
