THE HOTEL is located 2 hours north of Ngurah Rai International Airport. You will be staying at an altitude of 1300 metres near Bedugul, North Bali. Several paths lead through the rainforest to waterfalls, coffee, clove and cocoa plantations. 3 nights accommodation are included in the Reteat Price. THE RESTAURANT offers a choice of European, Indonesian, Balinese and Chinese cuisine at reasonable prices. Upon arrival special meal requests (vegetarian) may be given to the Hotel Manager and are subject to availability. TAO PHILOSOPHY I CHING – PA KUA – TAO TE CHING The teachings of these classic Chinese philosophies are based on a great underlying principle; the Tao, or "Way", which is the source of all being. Through the understanding of this principle, all the contradictions, divisions and distinctions of our existence are ultimately resolved. This principle can only be understood through intuitive transformation, the regular practice of Tai Chi Chuan, and incorporating Yin Yang and Chi theory into daily life. By removing the obstacles clouding our consciousness we once again connect to our original insight. This allows us to see clearly and understand the workings and wonders of the cosmos. SEVEN PRINCIPLES OF TAI CHI Cultivating these seven principles guides the peaceful warrior to awakening the compassionate spirit inside. They are the keys to health, inner peace and happiness, and the essence of spiritual progress. This requires mental, physical and spiritual training and adjustment, through regular practise under the guidance of an experienced master. TAO NATURE MEDITATIONS CONTEMPLATING NATURE Spend as much time as we can in nature, absorbing its powerful healing energy, and appreciating and contemplating the simplicity and beauty of the nature world. ONENESS WITH NATURE Take a walk into Mother Nature, taking deep gentle breaths to absorb the natural healing energy. Meditate in a natural healing place that feels right to you, and simply let go. ENERGY CLEANSING WITH TREES This is a great exercise for cleansing the energy of the body, and transforming negative emotions into positive energy, particularly if you are sick, depressed or recovering from illness. STANDING CHI KUNG OPENING THE GATES Opening the Gates loosens and warms-up all the major joints of the body, preparing the body for smooth internal energy or chi flow. GATHERING THE CHI Gathering the Chi is designed to absorb the fresh chi of the morning, get your life force moving in the body after a night of sleep, and to prepare your thoughts for a calm and balanced day. EIGHT PIECES OF BROCADE Dating back as far as 2,000 years ago, this popular Chi Kung set has a powerful therateutic effect in stimulating the central nervous system, lowering blood pressure, relieving stress, toning muscles, enhancing digestion and circulation of blood, and eliminating waste. Only when you are fully relaxed will all the energy channels be open, allowing the chi to flow freely throughout your whole being. CENTERING, GROUNDING, BODY ALIGNMENT These techniques will help you to develop your frame and achieve smooth flowing Tai Chi movement, and are very beneficial for the free passage of chi around the body. Focusing full awareness on the body, breath and mind, and revolving them around your centre of balance at the Lower Dan Tien, with low centre of gravity, while maintaining a centreline. LOWER DAN TIEN MEDITATION The Lower Dan Tien is the energy reservoir in the body, where we store the energy we generate, gather and absorb in Chi Kung and Tai Chi exercises. STANDING MEDITATION This exercise prepares the mind and body for Tai Chi by rooting and sinking the body, calming the mind, and centering the chi at the Lower Dan Tien. Zhou Xuan Yun On Feb. 1, 2013, the Library of Congress of the United States hosted an event to receive Wudang San Feng Pai. This event included a speech by Taoist (Daoist) priest and Wudang San Feng Pai Master Zhou Xuan Yun and the presentation of important Wudang historical documents and artifacts for a permanent display at the Library. Wudang Wellness Re-established in recent decades, Wudang San Feng Pai is an organization in China, which researches, preserves, teaches and promotes Wudang Kung Fu, which was said originally created by the 13th century Taoist Monk Zhang San Feng. Some believe that Zhang San Feng created Tai Chi (Taiji) Chuan (boxing) by observing the fight between a crane and a snake. Zhang was a hermit and lived in the Wudang Mountains to develop his profound philosophy on Taoism (Daoism), internal martial arts and internal alchemy. The Wudang Mountains are the mecca of Taoism and its temples are protected as one of 730 registered World Heritage sites of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Wudang Kung Fu encompasses a wide range of bare-hand forms of Tai Chi, Xingyi and Bagua as well as weapon forms for health and self-defense purposes. Traditionally, it was taught to Taoist priests only. It was prohibited to practice during the Chinese Cultural Revolution (1966- 1976).

Do not come to class with an acute illness. What is T'ai-chi ch'uan? T'ai-chi ch'uan, also spelled taijiquan, was developed as a martial art and longevity exercise between 700 and 300 years ago. It still is taught as both a martial art and longevity art. As early as the 1930's it was found to have varied and profound health benefits. Today it is primarily practiced as a "Mind-body" and Health Promotion exercise. It is one of the best stress reduction methods. It is a low intensity exercise, low impact, suitable to people of all ages and fitness levels. If you can walk, you can practice tai chi. T'ai-chi is shown to help some people improve balance and just feel better about themselves. People take our t'ai-chi classes to Improve their Health, Reduce Stress, Improve or lower their high blood pressure. Many of our students have told us that their blood pressure is now under control after their first series of t'ai-chi and our O'mei chi kung classes. Very importantly increased balance is reported, even in people of advanced age.

    3 Techniques of Dantian Internal Rotaion and Use of Meridians in Chen Family Taijiquan by Bosco Seung-Chul Baek (白承哲) B.S. Photo by Chris Soule Introduction Chen Family Taijiquan (陳氏太極拳: chénshìtàijíquán) is the mother form of Tajiquan from which all other Taiji styles are ultimately derived. The 9th generation of Chen Family representative, Chen Wangting, created Taijiquan from heritages of his past generations about 400 years ago. Unlike other Taijiquan styles, Chen Family Taijiquan still possesses explosive power (發勁: fājìn) expressed in the Cannon Fist forms. Authentic Taijiquan requires a harmony of 4 characteristics that are sturdiness, softness, fastness and slowness, and it is impossible to master Chen Family Taijiquan without these characteristics. Chen Family Taijiquan aims to acquire fangsong (relaxed and grounded) by practicing slowness such as Laojia Yilu (老架一路: lǎojiàyílù, Old Frame Fist Road) as it helps deeply relax the muscles, joints and spine while breathing naturally. Training with speed such as in the Laojia Erlu form (老架二路: lǎojiàèrlù, Old Frame Second Road) helps a practitioner understand the use of the fast energy exchange of the positive and negative force (yin and yang) to increase the power of one‟s dantian. If a practitioner practices with authentic instruction, he or she should be able to get the root of the dantian (丹田根:dāntiángēn) and control dantian internal rotation (丹田內轉: dāntiánnèizhuàn). Before these steps, it is required to open one‟s dantian and energy pathways so that the dantian circulates qi powerfully. In other words, the energy blocked areas in the body will be pierced out due to powerful qi circulation.

    Guelph Tai Chi for Health What is “chi kung” or “qigong” Definition: the work you do to produce energy or chi; cultivation of energy; breath work Qigong is usually divided into two categories, nei dan and wei dan . Nei dan : static, internal These forms of qigong are performed internally. They include all kinds of practices that exhibit very little external motion. Meditation is one example of nei dan qigong. Think of the body switching from energy consuming to energy restoring. Nei dan is practiced standing, sitting or lying down. The movement of energy around the body in the “microcosmic orbit” or “Universal post” exercise is another good example of nei dan qigong. Sometimes qigong is translated as “breath control exercise”. This is very important in nei dan practice. The breath is controlled in four ways: • Relaxing • Focus is on abdominal breathing • Sending breath to the abdomen by using directed thoughts • Use of certain words such as “ohm”, or the six healing sounds. The mind is very focused. Five major ways of focusing the mind are: • Focus the mind on specific acupoints – the top of the head (baihui), the soles of the feet (yongchuan) • Focus on beautiful or peaceful images • Focus on a specific person, idea, memory • Focus on the sound and meaning of words like “relax”, “be tranquil”, “let go” • Focus on specific lines, channels or meridians of energy Universal Post – standing meditation Wei dan: dynamic, external qigong Like nei dan, wei dan uses breathing and control of the mind to stimulate the flow of energy through the body, but unlike the static postures of nei dan, wei dan involves movement.
