BAHRIA UNIVERSITY HOLDS 15th CONVOCATION

Islamabad 11 May 2016: The 15th Convocation of the Islamabad was held on 11th May 2016 at Jinnah Convention Centre Islamabad today to commemorate the academic accomplishments of its students. Students were also honoured with Gold and Silver medals for their outstanding achievements in their academic career at the Convocation 2016. The President Islamic Republic of and the Chancellor Bahria University, Mr. Mamnoon Hussain, The Pro Chancellor Bahria University Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah and the Rector, Bahria University, (Retd) Tanveer Faiz graced the occasion with their presence and conferred degrees to the graduating students.

In total 406 students were awarded degrees. President Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Chancellor Bahria University, Mr. Mamnoon Hussain awarded 20 Gold medals and 18 Silver medals to various students, who achieved top positions in their respective departments. Gold medals and Silver medals were awarded to the students from each discipline to acknowledge their outstanding performance.

Waiza Rehman , Sahar Amjad , Ammara Mujtaba , Hammad Ghafoor , Qurat-ul- ain Malik , Muhammad Saad Mazhar, Faiza Rubab from Management Sciences Department , Raheela Arshad, Muhammad Amin Jaffer from Software Engineering Department, Imtisal Akhtar & Syed Ali Hasnain from Electrical Engineering Department, Jahanzeb Sarwar from Computer Engineering Department, Naeema Madiha Bari, Laraib Qureshi from Humanities & Social Science Department, Saima Tariq, Noor-Ul-Ain Ashraf , Shahbaz Ahmed Malik , Sayyada Phziya Tariq Wani from Earth & Environmental Sciences, Hussain Shabbir from Computer Science Department, Ayesha Munir from Law Department received gold medals.

While speaking to the ceremony, President Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Chancellor Bahria University, Mr. Mamnoon Hussain congratulated the students and their parents on their splendid success and said that universities and institutions have gained significant importance to help impart the requisite education and fostering competencies to make productive citizen of Pakistan. Bahria University is taking necessary initiatives required for enhancing educational research activities. Scholarly research work and other forums of creative endeavors are essential for the sustained intellectual growth of any higher educational institution. He further said that it is a matter of great satisfaction and encouragement for all of us that University is effectively contributing in building up human resource of the country. Bahria University, through its strong community support programme is working on various projects as an integral activity and linked under graduate degree programmes with community development projects making it mandatory for students to become active in social work. He also appreciated the student`s merit and need based scholarship and study loan schemes.

Earlier in his welcome address, Vice Admiral (Retd) Tanveer Faiz, Rector BU congratulated the students and their parents, and wished them a prosperous future. He said that higher education has now become a tool of economic growth. The universities have great responsibility of producing quality graduates who could contribute positively in various fields for economic growth of the country. Our vision is to prepare our students for the national as well as international market, while maintaining high standards of education. The Rector hoped that new endeavors undertaken by the management of Bahria University with commitment and determination will yield the best results for all the stakeholders and will definitely provide competitive edge to Bahria University to become the leading University of the country.

He said that university has allocated Rs 33.0 Million for Merit & Need Based Scholarships and Study Loans. HEC has also very graciously provided Rs 9.0 Million for this purpose. Punjab Education Endowment Fund and National ICT R&D Fund under Ministry of IT are also sponsoring number of our students. This will provide an opportunity to students coming from low income background to pursue education in Bahria University.

The ceremony was attended by senior naval officers, faculty members and a large number of students and their parents.
