All the Head of Departments, senior admin personnel, faculty members and students gathered outside Sir Syed Block where Dua was done for the prosperity of Bahria University. After the Dua, honorable Pro-Rector BU addressed the gathering and emphasized on everyone that only with hard work and dedication we have come this far and have delivered education to the youth of Pakistan. The 16th foundation day of Bahria University was celebrated at Bahria University Medical &Dental College (BUMDC) on Monday 8th February 2016. The BUMDC campus was decorated with balloons and flaglets of Pakistan, Bahria University and BUMSDC. Faculty members and 02 Cover Story 16th Foundation Day Celebration staff gathered in the courtyard wearing Pakistani flag badges. The Director General BUMDC, Tahseenullah Khan HI(M) graced the occasion as Chief Guest and hoisted the Pakistan flag while national anthem was being played. All students witnessed the celebration. After flag hoisting, the Director General cut specially designed cake for the occasion. The ceremony was followed by get together and refreshments. The 34th scheduled meeting of the Board of Governors (BOG) of Bahria University was held on 29th January 2016 at BUHQ, Islamabad. The meeting was chaired by Chairman Board of Governors Bahria University Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah NI (M) Chief of the Naval Staff. The agenda points of the meeting were deliberated comprehensively by the board members. Detailed briefing was given to the board members on the spate of progress of various ongoing projects, with special reference to expansion of academic areas, new infrastructures, financial audits and educational facilities in various campuses. 04 BU Head Office Bahria University inks MOU with Shanghai Lixin University China A delegation from Shanghai Lixin University of Commerce, China visited Bahria University on 26th February, 2016. Five member delegate was led by Prof. Dr. Guoming ZHOU, Vice President Shanghai Lixin University, while other members include; Prof. Dr. Qiying SU Vice Director of International Office, Prof. Dr. Liping Tu Dean of School of International Studies, Prof. Dr. Dehua GU Vice Director Dept. of Academic Affairs and Prof. Dr. Yingfend LONGDean School of Humanities and Law. The visit of Chinese counterparts was premeditated to sign a Memorandum of Collaboration between two universities. During visit, they met Rector BU and other senior officials of Bahria University to explore the options for academic collaboration.

BU Promoting Linkages with Industry and Corporate Sector Bahria University organized a dinner in the honor of the members of Corporate Advisory Committees (CACs) of Bahria University at Monal Restaurant, Margalla Hills, Islamabad. The gathering provided an interactive platform to people from Industries, business and service organizations for establishing linkages between academia and Industry. This was a great opportunity for the faculty members/researchers and personnel from industry for networking and to exchange ideas about the emerging trends in the corporate sector. While addressing to the audience, the Rector BU Vice Admiral (Retd) Tanveer Faiz HI (M) emphasised on development of mutually beneficial connections. He said that these gatherings help to reduce the gap between Industry and academia. Mr. Tahir Chaudhry, President & CEO Pakistan Institute of Entrepreneurship (PIE), appreciated the Bahria University's initiative. 05 BU Head Office President Askari Bank Visited Mr. Syed M. Husaini, President and CEO Askari BU Bank along with his team visited Bahria University, Islamabad on 24th February, 2016. During visit, he met Rector BU Vice Admiral (R) Tanveer Faiz HI (M) and shared his views about contemporary business education trends and Islamic banking. He offered the assistance of Askari Bank in promoting educational activities at Bahria University. He proposed establishment of Center of Islamic Banking at Islamabad Campus. President Askari Bank also addressed the graduating students of Department of Management Sciences and shared his valuable experience of 30 years in corporate sector. During speech, he emphasized on the importance of morality, humility and integrity for success in the corporate world. Furthermore, Mr. Syed M. Husaini encouraged the graduating students to apply for job and internships in Askari Bank. Student Support Centre (SSC) has started functioning in Islamabad and Karachi Campus from spring semester 2016; an open door office for students and their guardians for seeking academic or administrative help. The Student Resource Centre, Student Facilitation Centre, and Community Support Program are all working together under the ambit of SSC to provide a fully integrated support service for current and potential students. It will serve as one window operation facility offering range of services and advice related to academic guidance, co-curricular activities, career services, scholarship and financing queries. Faculty Orientation Week was held at Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore Campuses from 18th - 21st January, 2016. During orientation, newly inducted faculty was given an introduction to BU and information on various procedures related to academic and non-academic matters. New Appointment at BUHQ (R) Imtiaz Khan PN has been appointed as Director Human Resource, w.e.f 01st January 2016. He has done his M.Sc in Naval sciences and has served for 31 years in and possess a vast experience of Admin , HRM, Training Command, staff, Instructional duties. Editors of BU Journal at at ACSE workshop

Dr. Elizabeth Wager, Publication Consultant Side View and visiting faculty at University Split conducted edifying sessions on raising the academic quality of peer review, ethics and reducing bias in review process. With the help of case studies she also briefed about practicalities of peer review. At the end of the workshop all participants were awarded certificates. The workshop provided an enriched platform to editors for interaction with experts of other intuitions and universities and shares their experiences.

08 Bahria University Islamabad Campus

AISEC is one of the world's largest student run organization and currently working in over 1600 universities worldwide. About 86000 students are engaged with AISEC global exchange programs. Students of Bahria University Information Session Islamabad under the aegis of AISEC Pakistan set up a registration desk on the 12th of February 2016. Furthermore, an information session on the objectives and functionality of AISEC Pakistan was conducted by the AISEC team members. A large number of students from BUIC attended the session and showed interest in getting registered and working with them. The overall activity was very interactive and edifying. Attock Petroleum Recruitment Drive HR Team from Attock Petroleum visited Bahria University Islamabad as on 12th January, 2016 to conduct interviews for their position of "Brand Ambassador". A number of students participated in the recruitment drive for the purpose.

GSK Orientation on Recruitment Procedures A team from Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK) visited Bahria University Islamabad on 16th February, 2016 as part of awareness campaign on employment opportunities at GSK. During interaction with students of Bahria University Islamabad, the GSK team briefed about hiring procedures.

Guest lecture by Ms. Leigh Ellen Keating. Director International, Lakehead University, Canada Ms. Leigh Ellen Keating, Director International, Lakehead University, Canada delivered a guest talk to the students of Bahria University on 3rd February, 2016. She briefed students about admission policies and work permit procedures in Canada. During her visit she also met the senior officials of Bahria University.

Nestle Pakistan Visit Nestle Pakistan organized a guest speaker lecture on 19th February, 2016 for students of Islamabad Campus. The session provided the students an opportunity to equip themselves with the right aptitude and attitude towards professional career. Guest speaker also guided students towards the Management trainee officers and Internship opportunities for career progression.

09 Bahria University Islamabad Campus 18th All Pakistan Inter-University Declamation The intra-university (first) round of 18th All Pakistan Inter- University Declamation Contest was held at Bahria University Islamabad Campus. This competition was organized to select the best speakers from BU for the regional level round of the grand event. The best speakers of the event were judged on the basis of the content, originality, confidence and the way of deliverance. Faculty members from Social Sciences Department, Mr. Shaheer Elahi, Ms. Tahira Anwar and Ms. Tayyaba Zulfiqar, were requested to be judge for this event. Students who stood in first place in English and contest were Raheel Bashir Awan and Jamal Jafri respectively, Cash prizes were awarded to the first, second and third position holders to encourage their skill set in the field. Freshman Registrations and Auditions for Student Clubs and Societies BU students always kick off a new semester with something that would keep them energetic in the entire semester. One of such activities is the registrations and auditions of the various societies headed by Student Resource Centre. In this regard, from 10th till 26th February, 2016 all the clubs and societies put up their registration desks , decorated with chart papers and other props. Clusters of students filled forms and signed up for the auditions for different societies. Faculty Café Inauguration On 11th February 2016, the Rector BU Vice Admiral (Retd) Tanveer Faiz HI (M), accompanied by the entire faculty of the institution, inaugurated the first ever cafeteria made exclusively for the faculty and admin staff. Rector BU reiterated his aim to facilitate and take care of the employees in best possible manners. He further highlighted the milestones that have been set and achieved by the administration of Bahria University in recent year. Jazz Gig by FACE Pakistan In collaboration with FACE Pakistan, Bahria University Islamabad Campus organized a musical gig on 23rd February 2016, in Auditorium of the campus. Students of the BU Music Society opened the event by playing multiple jazz songs. When the mood was set, four Jazz musicians from the US embassy walked on the stage and enthralled the Bahria University audience. Senior officials and faculty members of Bahria University

10 Bahria University Islamabad Campus also attended the event. They left the crowd on their feet by playing fusions of Pakistani Patriotic songs with Jazz progressions like 'Teray bina dil na lagay Pakistan' and making the audience sing along.

BUIC participated in NUST International Model United Nations (NIMUN) from 19th - 22nd January, 2016. Out of more than 500 participants from all over the world, BU students won two honorary mention; Mr. M Faizan Tahir from BBA role playing Nawaz Sharif in PCC sessions, and Mr. Usman Arshad from BS ( Accounting and Finance) in Futuristic Security Council. Following the theme, "Unity beyond Borders" BU team was assigned for International Olympic Committee, and Germany for other committee sessions. It was an immensely learning experience for students. BUIC Clubs Marking Their Way up the Ladder To train the new members and groom existing members SRC s arranged an interactive workshop for literary and debates club students on 17th February 2016. All interested debaters were briefed about the concept of Model United Nations and taught how to write impressive position papers and techniques to diplomatically defend their stance during debates. The workshop was conducted by the heads of the Literary & Debates Society and seniors. Similarly, workshop Society member's sharing their MUN experiences for students of music society was held on 2nd and 10th of February 2016. The music societies conducted their jamming sessions with their leading members with an aim to discover new talents. Other clubs and societies were also encouraged from the response and are lining up for more workshops in future. Hiking on trail 3 at Margalla Hills Islamabad A hiking trip on trail 3 at Margalla Hills Islamabad was arranged for the faculty member of Islamabad campus on 27th Jan 2016. 11 Bahria University Islamabad Campus HNMUN & Visit to Valparaiso University Bahria University sent a delegation of sixteen students and three BU officials to Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN) held in Boston from 10th - 17th February, 2016. The BU Students represented Brazil. HNMUN gave a huge opportunity to Bahrians to meet people from all around the world and share interesting experience. The delegate also visited Valparaiso University, Chiago, USA. Additionally, debating on different issues of the world as part of HNMUN was a significant experience to improving communication and persuasive skills. Training on Hypnosis Therapy' Bahria University had organized ten days training on 'Hypnosis Therapy' in collaboration with National Guild Hypnotists (NGH) USA for certified consultant hypnotist / Hypnotherapist (NGH) USA at Bahria University Islamabad. The training was conducted by Dr. Imran Yousuf Muhammad (BCH, CMI) Mind Scientist, Dr. Uzma Masroor Clinical Psychologist and Head of Department Professional Psychology at BU, Dr. Uzma Ali, Assistant Professor Institute of Clinical Psychology (ICP) and Ms. Muneeba Shakeel, Clinical Psychologist and NGH certified hypnotherapist.

12 Bahria University Islamabad Campus BU Focuses on Personal Development for Ladies A two-day course on "Personal Development" for enhancing personal skills was held at Bahria University Islamabad by Department of Professional Psychology for Ladies. The objective of the course was to enhance awareness of psychological and emotional understanding in practical life settings such as stress and emotional management through personal development. Begum Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah NI(M) graced the occasion as Chief Guest on the closing ceremony. Similar training was conducted for BU Faculty members on 13-14 February. The training intended to inculcate advance personal management skills for an improved daily performance. Stress management skills were also discussed during workshop.

13 BUM&DC BUMDC Won The Health Awareness Competition

The Health Awareness Competition was held at Expo Centre, Karachi on 24th January 2016. The event was organized by HOPES (Help Of Patients in Exigency by Students) . Eight students of Bahria University Medical and Dental College including Affifa Fatima, Safia Anwar, Ebrahim Riaz, Hafsa Saeed, Muhammad Zaman, Kanza Arooj, Hira Akbar and Nimra Khurshid participated in the programme. Four table clinics were arranged on the theme of "Maintenance of Oral Hygiene". The clinics were s e t u p t o c o n v e y comprehensive knowledge about awareness of oral cancer, tooth brushing and flossing techniques, baby tooth carries and Malocclusion. Dr Zubair Ahmed Abbasi, Principal BUMDC (Dental Section) visited the stall and appreciated the efforts of the students. Surprise inspection was carried out by the nominated judges and on the basis of overall performance, BUMDC (Dental Section) was declared the winner and awarded with cash award and appreciation certificates for all participants.

BUMDC Commemorates World Cancer Day

The 4th of February is commemorated annually as the World Cancer Day to raise awareness about cancer, its complications and to promote prevention of this disease. On account of this, the Department of Oral Pathology, Bahria University Medical & Dental College organised a Seminar on" Oral Cancer" on 4th February 2016. The seminar was headed by Dr. Daud Mirza, HOD Oral Pathology, BUMDC, assisted by Dr. Ghazal Raza and Dr Zara Karim. Guest speaker Asst. Prof. Dr. Ghazanfar Hassan, Chairman of OMFS at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro, along with Prof Dr. Mohiuddin Alamgir, HoD Pathology, and Dr. Kulsoom Fatima, HoD Community Dentistry BUMDC shared their views on the crucial topic.

Director General Vice Admiral Retd Tehseen Ullah Khan HI(M), and Principal Dental Section Prof. Zubair Ahmed Abbasi appreciated the efforts made by the Department of Oral Pathology for arranging this educational seminar. The speakers were then presented with honorary shields and certificates of appreciation were handed over to the organizers.

Dr. Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi, HOD of Community & Preventive Dentistry BUMDC, recently attended a CME program organized by Imamia Medics International (IMI) Pakistan - Karachi Chapter on 14th of February 2016. She was invited as a guest speaker to share her intellect. She shed light on the 'Importance of Oral hygiene' which was the theme of the program. Dental section of Bahria University Medical and Dental College (BUMDC) successfully organized an outreach program under the banner of community support program (CSP) at Behbood Primary school, Kalapul on 29th January,. The program sought to provide free dental checkup and to deliver knowledge, resources and educational material to help children integrate into preventative oral health measures. Children of ages between 3-9 years from Nursery till grade 3 participated and benefited from the program conducted by CSP members Dr. Raima Bashir, Dr. Anum Sami, Dr. Mamoora Arslaan under the supervision of Dr. Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi Head of department Community Dentistry BUMDC. The CSP team engaged children into health care activities which included learning brushing technique with the help of models and interactive videos. WELCOME PARTY 2016 AT BUMDC

The dental section of Bahria University Medical and Dental College continuing with its proud tradition organized Welcome party on 16th and 20th February to welcome the 4th batch of BDS (2016-2019) and celebrate its addition into the dental family. A welcome speech was given by Faryal Amin, student of 2nd year BDS, which was followed by exciting performances by students. Proceeding book of 6th international Maritime Conference on topic of "Martime Economy, Environment and Security Co-operation; Bringing the West Pacific and the Indian Ocean Closer" was launched at NCMPR Bahria University in Jan 2016. National Centre for Maritime Policy Research (NCMPR), Bahria University organized 3rd National Maritime Seminar on 21 January 2016 at Karachi Campus. Renowned scholars were invited to deliberate on the theme China - Pakistan Economic Corridor: it's Maritime Implications for Pakistan. Admiral (Retd) Shahid Karimullah NI (M), SJ, Former Chief of the Naval Staff graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Vice Admiral (Retd) Khalid Mohammad Mir HI (M), S.Bt attended the event as Guest of Honour. Prominent dignitaries from trade and industry, stakeholders from maritime sector, naval officers, intellectuals and researchers were present during this significant gathering.

According to him, CPEC, though apparently a bilateral initiative holds several social, political and diplomatic implications not only for Pakistan and China but for the whole region. Similarly, in the

16 NCMPR second session, maritime security challenges were highlighted by Cdre Ali Abbas SI (M), Commandant PNS BAHADUR. He said that the expected economic boom out of China- Pakistan Economic Corridor is coupled with maritime security challenges in traditional military as well as non-military domains which need to be catered to make this project a reality. Prof. Din Mohammad Kakar, Assistant Professor from University of Balochistan, dilated upon the Challenges of Natural Disasters in view of a case study of Makran Coast. Earlier in his speech, Vice Admiral (Retd) Khalid Mohammad Mir HI (M), S.Bt stated that Pakistan is passing through Rector BU presenting souvenir to the Chief Guest economic transition and Gwadar is indeed a viable opening for prosperity and development of Pakistan. Chief Guest of the seminar Admiral (Retd) Shahid Karimullah NI (M), SJ, while expressing his views said that the bilateral strategic planning from both countries; Pakistan and China with profound understanding of economic implications can benefit them simultaneously. He also commended the efforts of NCMPR to create awareness and assemble galaxy of experts to deliberate on such an emerging subject.

Seminar Convener, Rector Bahria University Vice Admiral (Retd) Tanveer Faiz HI (M) in his closing remarks, thanked the worthy Chief Guests, participants and the speakers. In addition, he mentioned about the substantial role of Pakistan Navy for the development of CPEC. He informed that more than 400 marines of Pakistan Navy's Third Marines Battalions are providing security round the clock to Gwadar Port. Recently, Pakistan Navy has also decided to deploy two more marines' battalions to enhance further security and cooperation. NCMPR Participates Annual Symposium at JMICC In order to exchange views the contemporary maritime scenario amongst high level officials and experts, Annual Symposium was organized by Joint Maritime Information and Coordination Center (JMICC) at PNS QASIM on 9 February 2016. Ms Naghmana Zafar Bhatti, Staff officer (Research) presented a thought provoking paper on the topic."Regional Maritime Security Trends" in the Symposium. The paper was focused on emerging phenomena in maritime safety and security and its implications for the regional littorals. Pakistan Fleet Vice Admiral Syed Arifullah Hussaini HI(M), T.Bt was invited as the chief guest on the occasion. Orientation Ceremony (Spring Session 2016)

Institute of Professional Psychology welcomed its newly admitted BS, MS, M Phil and PMD students at the orientation ceremony held at Karachi Campus. The day started with the welcome message of the Rector Bahria University. Director IPP Dr. Zainab F. Zadeh addressed the occasion and the new students were introduced to faculty and staff members of the institute and they were also made familiar with the procedures of the university. A walk round was also organized in which the students walked around the campus and were introduced to their new campus. Display of Research Project at the HEC Research Pavilion

Dr. Zainab .F Zadeh and Ms. Naima Fatima Shariff's Community service project titled "The efficacy of Positive Psychology Interventions on the subjective well-being of Institutionalized Orphaned and Abandoned Females" was displayed at the HEC Research Pavilion on the 6th and 7th of February 2016, in Islamabad. The project received positive feedback form all attendees and was marked as an effort towards generating benefits of research for the country. It is worth mentioning that the subject paper has also been accepted for oral presentation at the CPSYC International Congress on Clinical & Counselling Psychology going to be held in Antalya - Turkey from 10-12 May 2016. Two day Workshop on Trauma Management in Children

A two day workshop titled 'Trauma Management in Children' by Dr. Panos Vostanis was held on January 9- 10 2016 at presentation hall Bahria University Karachi Campus. Faculty members and students of MS and M.Phil attended the workshop which was based on identification and management of psychological trauma in children. Facilitator explained different methods of assessment and therapeutic interventions to deal with children experiencing trauma. Institute of Professional Psychology in collaboration with Hussaini Foundation organized the event.

21 Library Corner Training Programme For all Campuses Library Staff To keep abreast with latest tools and LIS technologies in the field of research and information technology, a one day training workshop was organized through video link facility for all constitute units library professionals on February 18, 2016 by the Chief Librarian, Mr. Sher Afzal. He delivered a comprehensive lecture on different research software i.e Turnitin, KOHA library integrated software and IEEE database. The purpose of this workshop was to update integrated library system at libraries of all constituent units of Bahria University Libraries. BULC Library Workshop In consonance to BU resolve for "discovering knowledge", Bahria University Lahore Campus organized a two-day workshop for professional librarians from 29th to 30th January, 2016. The event was attended by numerous library professionals and students from 26 institutes. The main resource person of the event was Ms. Bushra Almas, Chief Librarian, Forman Christian Colleg. She delivered a keynote address on "Professionals Development and Ethics", in which she laid emphasis upon the cumulative role of library staff in truly delivering the library benefits to sector of scociety. Mr. Sher Afzal Khan, Chief Librarian, BUIC also attended the workshop as guest speaker and elaborated upon "KOHA" integrated software for libraries resource person. The workshop was presided by the Director Lahore Campus. The Director, in his address to the participants concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, highlighted the importance of librarian role in universities and stressed upon bringing in the best practices in this profession.

22 Library Corner Establishment of Book Bank at BU Central Library

BUIC library is equipped with around 30000 reference books, periodicals, journals and other material related to various disciplines. Nearly 5500 students, faculty members, and staff are utilizing the library services on regular basis throughout the year. In order to facilitate students, a book bank has recently been established at BU Central library Islamabad. The book bank is equipped with multiple copies of text books of various disciplines including Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Management Sciences etc. Now students can avail this facility and get the text books issued for the whole semester.

Series of Lecture for Professional Librarians conducted at BUKC with collaboration of PLC

Pakistan Library Club (PLC) organized a Series of Lectures / Workshops on 16th, 23rd and 30th January 2016 at Bahria University Karachi Campus. The workshop was conducted on "How to Develop a Database". Resource Person was Mr. Muhammad Waseem Zia, Assistant Professor at Library and Information Science (LIS) Department at University of Karachi. The topic of the workshop was "Research for Librarians". Saad, Ms. Sana Rahim from IPP and Assistant Librarian BUKC Mr.Faheem Anwar participated in the workshop titled "Librarian as Information Literacy Facilitator" held at Aga Khan University Hospital. The workshop was c onducted by Mr.Nooruddin Merchant (Head Librarian, Habib University). The aim of the workshop was to train the Librarians on how they can help through identifying different sources of information. The event was well attended by library professionals from different schools and universities.

23 Bahria University Lahore Campus BULC participation in FORMUN 16

Seven students of Bahria University Lahore Campus participated in Forman Christian College Model United Nations 16 (FORMUN 16) held from 6-9 Jan 16 at Forman Christian College Lahore. The country allotted to BU students was Denmark. Students actively participated in the event and it was a good learning experience. Students of BULC participating in FORMUN 16 Workshop on the topic of Strategic Vision A workshop on the topic of Strategic Vision was held at Bahria University Lahore Campus on 12 Jan 16. Cdre (R) Naveed Ahmad SI (M), Directing research at PN War College was invited as the resource person for the workshop. He discussed the importance of vision and role in the success of an organization. The students were encouraged to share their views at the end, overall the session was interactive and of immense learning value. Cdre (R) Naveed Ahmad SI (M) receiving a token of appreciation Rector's Visit to BULC Rector BU, Vice Admiral Tanveer Faiz HI (M), visited Bahria University Lahore Campus on 17 Feb 16. He was briefed on the salient activities of BULC which was followed by a walk around of the campus including inauguration of the Advance Computer Lab in CS&IT Department. He interacted with the faculty members during which he shared his vision and gave guidelines on various aspects to improve standard of education and research. Later, he had an interactive session with the students who appeared on Rector's Honour List in the last semester. BULC Participation in YLES 16 Lahore University of Management Sciences organized Young Leader and Entrepreneur Summit 16 (YLES 16) from 7-10 Jan 16. A team comprising of 5 students from Bahria University Lahore Campus participated in the event where they presented business idea and took part in different entrepreneurial contests. Overall, it was a great learning experience for the students.

24 Bahria University Lahore Campus Orientation Spring 2016 Semester An orientation session for new undergraduate students of Spring 2016 semester was held at Bahria University Lahore Campus on 12 Feb 2016. Director Campus welcomed the new students and briefly apprised them about salient policy aspects for students during course of pursuing studies at Bahria University. He also talked about different facilities that students can benefit from during their stay at Bahria University Lahore Campus. A stage play and music performance was also showcased on this occasion. Students were given a tour of the campus, they also met with faculty and staff. Student Advisors of respective departments elaborated the student handbook rules and practices at BU.

Visit to VOICE Society Shelter Home Bahria University had always laid great emphasis on Community Support Programme. In this regard, students of Bahria University Lahore Campus visited VOICE Society Shelter Home for Disabled Children on 22 Feb 15 in Johar Town, Lahore. They spent time with the children and were indulged in different activities as part of their community support programme.
