Akademisches Auslandsamt/ International Office Getting from Munich Airport (Terminal 1) to Regensburg [If you arrive at Terminal 2 (Lufthansa, StarAlliance), follow the signs to Terminal 1. Then continue towards the “Z” area and follow the instructions below, starting with nr. 4.] 1. Once you have gotten your luggage & have passed through Customs, you will leave that area into a major concourse heading left & right. You will enter this concourse by going around a high Plexiglas wall. This long concourse has windows almost entirely along the far side from where you entered. 2. Information booths are available up & down this concourse. Look for stairs, or an escalator ramp, or an elevator down to the next lower lever. 3. Continue along this concourse toward the large Z (Zentralbereich, or Central Area) - this is an open area collection of shops, services, cafeterias, etc. The entrance-ways into the Zentralbereich go off down ramp at 45o angles. 4. Once in the Zentralbereich, you will find a cafeteria, restrooms, upscale shops, a blue & white Bavarian souvenir shop, money changing counters, and Die Bahn (German rail) counter. Buy your ticket to Regensburg here. Get a one-way ticket (Einfach nach Regensburg, nicht Zurűck) to Regensburg. Æ costs: approximately 20 Euros 5. You will first be taking a very short bus trip to the little town of Freising, and then taking the train from there to Regensburg. So, go outside to the bus turn-around lot next to the Zentralbereich and scope out which stop is for Freising/Regensburg. For years it has been the first one closest to the entrance doors, but check for yourself. Also check the departure times on the plaque. Buses tend to arrive just immediately prior to their next departure. Æ the bus #635 from Munich Airport to train station Freising departs every 20 minutes 6. Once the bus arrives in Freising to the left of the train station (Bahnhof or Hauptbahnhof) walk around or through the station. You will undoubtedly have to go down-under-and-up the stairs (or take the elevator) to your track (Gleis or Bahnsteig). It usually has been track #4, but again, check it out. The platform will service two tracks, either 3 & 4 or 4 & 5, so heads up. Do not hesitate to ask anyone in uniform. Look for the train number (almost always: RE #260__ the last two digits vary and sometimes: RE #400_ or 5670; RE stands for Regional Express) and 2. Klasse on either the doors or the windows closest to the doors of each car. Æ the train from Freising to Regensburg departs every hour. It might not be saying “Regensburg” on the train. It might say NÜRNBERG (Regensburg’s on the route from Munich to Nuremberg). If you’re unsure, ask someone if the train stops in Regensburg. 7. Keep your ticket handy to show the conductor, but once you have done that the conductor will remember you with a nod each time through the car. 8. When you arrive at the Regensburg Hauptbahnhof, head up the stairs (or the elevator) to the pedestrian overpass and turn towards the station building/ city center exit (away from Arkaden (= shopping mall)). Now down the escalator stairs (or elevator) and you are in the main entrance hall of the station. ALTERNATIVELY, TAKE THE AIRPORTLINER SHUTTLE SERVICE: www.airportliner.com ADVANCE BOOKING NECESSARY, PRICE: 38 EUR. IT TAKES YOU DIRECTLY TO ANY ADDRESS IN REGENSBURG. .
