Brechin provides a range of local services including supermarkets, primary and secondary schooling, banks, restaurants and leisure facilities. Lathallan School at Johnshaven (18 miles) is a well-regarded local private school. The A listed house was originally built for Robert Speid and Christian Grierson in 1759 in celebration of their marriage and is dated on the skews with their initials.
