Welcome to Sunday School Online! Hi, Boys and Girls! Welcome to another online Sunday School lesson! We’re continuing on in our study titled, “The Inspired Word.”

The main character we will be studying today is the , (who was mentioned a little in the last lesson), and what he has to do with “The Inspired Word . . . of God!” PARENTS! Thank you so much for making sure your kids are getting fed the Word of God! KEEP IT UP! YOU’RE DOING AN AWESOME JOB! Holy

Holy Bible

THANKS FOR BEING THE “FIRST RESPONDERS” For making sure your kids are taught THE WORD OF GOD! These lessons are designed to help you teach the Word of God to your kids! We hope you are blessed just as much as they are as you go through it with them! GOD BLESS YOU!!! Children are great imitators. So give them something great to imitate . . . Rather, give them SOMEONE to imitate!

Here is some great advice from the Apostle Paul that you can pass on to your kids: “Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.” I Corinthians 11:1 “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. YOU shall TEACH them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.” Deuteronomy 6:6,7 “. . . That they should TEACH them to their children, that the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born, that they may arise and tell them to their children.” Psalm 78:5,6 “Where did we go wrong?” I’ve heard that question from far too many parents, usually in the midst of a crisis with their teenagers. Imagine a construction crew waiting until a building is half-finished before laying the foundation. Yet that’s what many parents do with their children. Training a child begins early in life as parents build in them the foundation of a biblical worldview. Also, training up a child involves letting our kids see that our lives are built on this same biblical foundation. If they see little or no evidence of God’s truth or consistency in our walk and our talk as Christians, then they may write us – and our faith – off as phony.

So, parents, make sure you are laying the foundation first, early in your children’s lives, and throughout their childhood showing them what life in Christ looks like. Then, you will experience the promise. Dr. Ed Young Proverbs 22:6 We at the CCD Children’s Ministry want you to know that we are doing everything possible to make our Sunday School classrooms as safe as possible according to the CDC, and hope that you feel comfortable enough to bring your kids back to our classrooms. II Chronicles 34:5 Josiah burned the bones of the idol- worshiping priests on the altars? II Chronicles 34:8 Josiah commissioned and two others to repair the house of “HIS” God! II Chronicles 34:14,15 In the course of the repairs, the high priest found the scroll of the Law II Chronicles 34:18

Josiah’s servant, Shaphan read the scroll to the king. II Chronicles 34:19 IIJosiah Kings the 22:9king tore-11 his clothes when he heard the reading! II Chronicles 34:20,21 The king then told Shaphan and Hilkiah, the high priest, to go and inquire of the Lord because of what he heard read! The high priest went to Huldah, II Chronicles 34:22 the prophetess for counsel! Basically, here is a summary of what she said from II Chronicles 34:23-28 II Chronicles 34:29,30 Josiah then read the scroll of the Law to the leaders and the people! II Chronicles 35:1-19 Josiah then had a HUGE Passover celebration! Kids, every Sunday morning in ”Big Church,” Pastor Jeff has all the people in the service read a Psalm together with him before preaching. So let’s do that as well before we get into the lesson. If you have your Bible, you and your parents can read Psalm 91 and see how it applies to today’s lesson. If you don’t have a Bible, you can read the following:

Memory Verse:

Psalm 119:89 “Forever, O Lord, Thy word is settled in heaven.” Memory Verse:

Psalm 119:89 “Forever, O Lord . . . Always was, is and will be!

= Memory Verse:

Psalm 119:89 “. . . Thy word is settled in heaven.” Memory Verse: Psalm 119:89 “. . . Thy word is settled in heaven.”

And it’s settled in Heaven where God is! Psalm 119:89 “Forever, O Lord, Thy word is settled in heaven.” This Week’s Lesson: The Inspired Word – Part 2 “Jeremiah and Baruch” Scriptures: – 37:4 Well here we are again, boys and girls! This is part 2 of our series, “The Inspired Word!” Remember, “Inspired” means God-Breathed.” God used 40 authors to write His Word (The Bible) but the words they wrote were actually His words!

One of the authors was a man named Jeremiah. He wrote the books of Jeremiah and Lamentations. His story is a very long story, so we’re just going to learn about his interaction with King , who was one of King Josiah’s sons, and what Jehoiakim thought about the inspired Word of God! Jeremiah was one of the

Isaiah Jeremiah Ezekiel Daniel

Key Word: Rotten Sash Key Word Learning System – Walk Thru The Bible Jeremiah • Rotten Sash • Phew! Look at Jeremiah holding up an old Rotten Sash (like a belt) for the jury to see (a jury makes decisions about right and wrong). Now you know that this book is called Jeremiah (“Jury-miah"). God told Jeremiah to bury his sash in filthy mud by the river. Why? So Jeremiah could dig it up later when it was dirty and covered with sand and use it to show people what happens when we disobey God. Jeremiah told the Jewish people that sin could make them seem dirty, too. He also told them that God would use and enemy army to "clean" them if they weren't careful. And God did.

• The people of didn't like that. No one likes to be reminded of their sin, do they? Even though the people didn't like what Jeremiah said, he obeyed God. He spent 40 years warning them that would happen because of their sin. Everything Jeremiah said would happen did happen!

• But Jeremiah also gave a new promise from God. God promised that He would make their hearts filled with His law someday. Then He would not have to correct them as much. What a great promise from God! No more dirty sashes! 31 30 31 Boys and girls, before we start, here’s an introduction to Jeremiah.

We know God speaks to us through His Word, but did you know that He also spoke directly to others in the Bible?

God Spoke with Adam and Eve God Spoke with Noah God Spoke with God Spoke with God Spoke with For hundreds of years, none of God’s Word was written down, but none of it was lost . . . Because:

Psalms 119:89 “Forever, O Lord, Thy word is settled in heaven!” Do you remember how many men wrote the Bible?

That’s right . . . 40!

The very first person to write for God was Moses, about 2500 years after Adam! God spoke the first 5 books to Moses, and he wrote them on scrolls The first words were written on tablets of stone . . . “by the finger of God.” Exodus 31:18 God gave Moses “The Lord will command the blessings very specific upon you in your barns and in all that words to show you put your hand to, and He will bless the people exactly you in the land which the Lord your how to please God gives you. The Lord will establish and serve Him, you as a holy people to Himself, as He such as: swore to you, IF YOU WILL KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF THE LORD YOUR GOD AND WALK IN HIS WAYS!” Deuteronomy 28:8,9 If they needed copies, they would have to be hand-written by scribes because they had no printing presses. ”God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the , has in these last days spoken to us by His Son” . . . Through His Word! Hebrews 1:1,2

Before the written Word, the people had the spoken Word! GOD’S WORD SPEAKS TO US TODAY ! Last week, Josiah found the scrolls of Moses and was determined to have the Israelites obey them. II Kings 23:1-3 And now God has called Jeremiah to be His prophet in the 13th year of the reign of King Josiah . . . :2 But Jeremiah gave excuses to God as to why he couldn’t do it: (Jeremiah 1:6)

What did he say?

“I don’t know how to ______?

Because I am too ______!”? Boys and girls, just like with Jeremiah, if God calls you to do something, He will equip you to do it! Maybe you can relate to this type of phone better! When we’re in trouble we dial 9-1-1, right?

Well, when we want to call God, we dial 3-3-3!

That represents :3

Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know! But God said: (Jeremiah 1:7) ? “Everywhere I send you, you shall _____, ? and all I command you to speak, you shall ______” And knowing that Jeremiah was afraid to be His prophet, God told Him: (Jeremiah 1:8)

“Do not be afraid of them, for I am ______? you ? to ______you.” King Josiah loved God’s Law (His Word) and would have listened to Jeremiah, God’s prophet, but He soon died and the next king, his son, Jehoiakim was not a good king. :2 Jeremiah was told by God to “go and proclaim in the ears of ______? . . .” Jeremiah 36

______? A quick look back at :2

______? But that’s not all the verse says! What is the last sentence? Boys and girls, can you see that God is gracious and merciful and will give His people every opportunity to REPENT!

“. . .Then I (God) will FORGIVE their iniquity and their sin.” Jeremiah 36:3

So you can see, Jeremiah has a VERY IMPORTANT message to deliver!

We’ve all heard of Jeremiah, but just who was this Baruch guy? There was a long relationship between the scribe and the prophet. Seventeen years later on the eve of the final fall of , Jeremiah entrusted to Baruch the title deed to the field he bought in (:13, 16). Baruch finally went with Jeremiah to (:6)." It may be that Jeremiah was restricted from Jeremiah 36:5 entering the Temple because of his harsh prophecy in his Temple Sermon (). Jeremiah 36:6,7 What did Jeremiah tell Baruch to do then? _____?

_____? Jeremiah 36:8-10 Baruch had read Jeremiah’s prophecy to the people during a time of F______.? Kids, isn’t it amazing that the people, even though they may not have been obeying the Word of the Lord in their lives . . . They still called a fast!

And it wasn’t the king or high priest who called for the fast - It was the people!

It could have been because they were scared as was conquering other cities nearby! It’s great to fast, pray and worship when you are in FAST need, but God loves it when you do it just because you love Him and want to be in His presence! Jeremiah 36:11-13 Who else heard the reading by Baruch? Jeremiah 36:14-16

What was the reaction of these officials when they heard the scroll read? Jeremiah 36:17-19 What did they ask Baruch? Then what did they tell him to do? Jeremiah 36:20 When these officials told the king what they had heard, do you think he was moved to cry out to the Lord? And now, just like Josiah, King Jehoiakim had the scroll read to him, and the result was he tore something . . . But was it his clothes? Keep reading!

Jeremiah 36:21 Uh-oh! While he’s listening to Jehudi read the scroll, he’s just staring at the fire next to him. What do you think he’s thinking about?

Jeremiah 36:22 No tearing of clothes here. The king seemed to be getting agitated the more he heard! What did the king Jeremiah 36:23 do to the scroll? And this was the king of Judah . . . NO FEAR OF GOD WHATSOEVER! Boys and girls, what do you think God was thinking as He watched this brazen act? Satan has tried throughout history to destroy the Bible . . . He doesn’t want men to know God’s Word! LISTEN! Jeremiah 36:24 What did the king’s servants think Jeremiahwhen 36:23 he burned the scroll? Poor King Jehoiakim had no idea what he was really doing. Did he actually think he was putting an end to God’s Word? Obviously, he did not have the same fear of God that his father, Josiah had! When some of his officials asked earnestly that the king not burn the scroll, what was his response?

Jeremiah 36:25 What order did the king give?

Sounds like he not only wanted to destroy the scroll, but also the persons responsible for making the scroll!

But what do the last few words of this verse say? Jeremiah 36:26 The Lord hid them!

And once God hid them, King Jehoiakim would NOT be able to find them! What did God instruct Jeremiah 36:27,28 Jeremiah to do next?

The king was going to suffer the consequences, whether he burned the scroll or not! Because of King Jehoiakim’s defiance to obeying God’s Word delivered by the prophet Jeremiah, what did God say would happen to Jehoiakim? Jeremiah 36:30,31

And kids, did you notice how his sins didn’t just effect him, but A LOT of others as well, including his own descendants!

How do you treat God’s Word?

What did Jeremiah do next Jeremiah 36:32 while the Lord hid him? How can you know God’s will for your life if you don’t read His Word? What else MUST you do besides “reading” His Word?

Kids, Jeremiah and the other prophets who obediently wrote the Scriptures so we could have God’s Word for all generations did this, knowing it would come with a cost. Read what the writer of the book of Hebrews said:

“And others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented; of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.” Hebrews 11:35-38 LESSONS LEARNED 1. God is very patient and forgiving! 2. God is with you everywhere you go! 3. Satan will NEVER stop God’s Word! 4. Fear God more than man!

These are just a few . . . List your own! Boys and girls, this lesson was designed to make you appreciate the precious Word of God, and to make it a priority in YOUR life!

And did you know that God loves you so much, and wants to have a relationship with you just like He did with Jeremiah, that He gave His only Son, Jesus, to die on a cross in your place, to remove all your sins so that you can live forever with Him in Heaven? And you can live the rest of your life here on earth with His Holy Spirit living right inside you? Yo u ca n have that relationship! It’s a free gift that God wants to give you! It’s free to you, but it cost Jesus everything . . . His life! And He willingly and obediently gave it for YOU because HE LOVES YOU!!!

Here’s how you can accept His free gift of salvation: First, acknowledge you are a sinner and REPENT and ASK JESUS to forgive your sins and be your SAVIOR! JESUS took ALL your sins upon Himself on the cross! And not just yours, but the sins of the whole world! I John 2:2

And when JESUS does this, He gives you a new heart! But it’s YOUR CHOICE if you want to accept His free gift of salvation! If you’ve never asked Jesus to FORGIVE you of your sins, and have not asked Him to BE YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR. . . But you would like to, pray this prayer and mean it with all your heart: “LORD JESUS, I know that I am a sinner and I do not deserve eternal life. But, I believe YOU died and rose from the grave to make me a new creation and to prepare me to dwell in your presence forever. JESUS, I repent of my sin and turn to you. Please come into my life, forgive my sins and save me. I trust in YOU for my salvation and I accept your free gift of eternal life.” In the mighty name of JESUS, Amen!

These basic practices will help you grow closer to Christ, love Him more, and help you share His love with others:

1. Read God’s Word (the Bible) daily – this is how He speaks to you. As you learn more about Him and obey His Word, you will become more like Him. 2. Pray daily – “Teach us to pray,” the disciples asked Jesus, and He taught them the simple prayer in Luke 11:1-4. Prayer is simply talking with God. 3. Share your faith – once you have experienced new life in Christ, you will want to share His love and forgiveness with others. 4. Attend a Bible-believing church – this will help you grow in your new life in Christ, as you learn from the teaching of God’s Word, and be encouraged together with other believers.
