  • General Bikram Singh
The Eagle (A NEWSLETTER OF ONA) Special issue (For Private Circulation) June 2012 (Dedicated to Gen Bikram Singh) This is a very special issue of The Eagle. For the first time in the history of the School, an Old Nabhaite has reached the pinnacle of his chosen profession. Hence it is dedicated to none other than Lt Gen Bikram Singh (B-71, 1968) whose elevation to the post of Chief of Army Staff of India has brought laurels to our alma mater and made each one of us justifiably proud. We have, in addition, paid tribute to the visionary Founders of the School at this great historical moment. Indeed, it was their foresight, vision and planning, which has culminated in one of the Old Boys of the School making it to the topmost rung of the ladder in the hierarchy of the mighty Indian Army. For this issue, I have worked in tandem with Gurinder Dhanoa(S-9, 1964) who not only edited the issue but also helped plan its presentation. This issue comprises three sections: 1. A tribute to the Founders of the School, including our Founder- Headmaster Mr JK Kate. These were the great men who not only visualised the concept of our School, but also toured and studied other established Public Schools of India and created a model for our School which was finally executed….all this within just over a decade after India won her freedom. 2. This section is dedicated to the “Man of the Moment”, to whom we pay accolades for his laudable achievement: “Lt Gen” Bikram Singh at the time of writing who would be “ General” Bikram Singh by the time this issue is out ! 3.

Source : www.livemint.com Date : 2020-06-07 EASTERN LADAKH STANDOFF: INDIAN AND CHINESE ARMIES HOLD LT-GENERAL-LEVEL TALKS Relevant for: International Relations | Topic: India - China The Indian delegation was led by Lt General Harinder Singh, the general officer commanding of Leh-based 14 Corps Indian and Chinese armies on Saturday held Lieutenant General-level talks in their first major attempt to resolve the month-long border standoff in eastern Ladakh, official sources said. The Indian delegation was led by Lt General Harinder Singh, the general officer commanding of Leh-based 14 Corps, while the Chinese side was headed by the Commander of the Tibet Military District, government sources said. The talks were held at the Border Personnel Meeting Point in Maldo on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh. Without specifically mentioning the talks, an Indian Army spokesperson said: "Indian and Chinese officials continue to remain engaged through the established military and diplomatic channels to address the current situation in the India-China border areas." Saturday's meeting took place after 12 rounds of talks between local commanders of the two armies and three rounds of discussions at the level of major general-rank officials could not produce any tangible outcome, the sources said. The high-level military dialogue took place a day after the two countries held diplomatic talks during which both sides agreed to handle their "differences" through peaceful discussions while respecting each other's sensitivities and concerns. Earlier, sources had said the Indian delegation at the military talks will press for restoration of status quo ante in Galwan Valley, Pangong Tso and Gogra in eastern Ladakh, oppose huge build up of Chinese troops in the region and ask China not to resist development of infrastructure by India on its side of the de-facto border.
