  • Kate Tabner Petition: Increase Street Sweeping in Abbey Wood Number of Signatures: 37 the Petition Read As Follows: Increase Street Sweeping in Abbey Wood
Petitioner: Kate Tabner Petition: Increase street sweeping in Abbey Wood Number of signatures: 37 The petition read as follows: Increase street sweeping in Abbey Wood There is so much litter on the roads and pavements of Abbey Wood, especially the day after bin day! The street cleaners are not as regular as needed to keep on top of the problem. Also, dog poo. It's everywhere. You can even smell it in the air some days. This petition is for the council to fund frequent street cleaners in Abbey Wood, if not daily then 2—3 visits weekly at least. Plus, more dog waste bins and bag dispensers on the streets. Abbey Wood doesn't need to be a dumping ground for waste! Cabinet Member: Public Realm Ward(s): Abbey Wood Directorate: DCE Submitted to Council on: 30 October 2019 Presented by: Councillor Ann-Marie Cousins 1. Petition Response 1.1 We are sorry to learn that a number of residents in Abbey Wood have reported concerns about litter and dog fouling in their area. 1.2 Both issues can be challenging for the local authority to manage borough- wide, but we do work hard to work with residents to help tackle these concerns, through regular cleansing, behaviour change campaigns and engagement. 2. Current actions being taken in relation to matter raised in petition 2.1 Litter is a problem that blights most areas in the borough unfortunately and is also a national issue that is being actively challenged. In 2019 our Street Services team tried hard to better educate residents to be more responsible and not throw litter on our streets.

  • Bexley Labour Group Submission 2
Bexley Labour Group submission 2 (B) Overview of proposed arrangements This submission has sought to deliver electoral equality throughout the pattern, forming wards around a principle of -/+5% from the variance. Nineteen of the twenty-three wards achieve this principle; fourteen proposed wards are within 4%, nine are within 3%, five are within 2% and three are within 1% of the average electoral quotient. Four wards are above the self-imposed - /+5% quotient and where that is the case it has been justified in the description of the proposed wards. The Local Government Boundary Commission for England has indicated that it is minded to recommend that the council size be forty-five and this proposal reflects that. Bexley is a residential suburban borough and many of the towns and neighbourhoods have been built around railway stations and they remain and provide a hub with shops and amenities. Where appropriate and where railway lines can be easily traversed the proposed arrangements reflect that. The submission considers the A2 which runs east-west across the centre of the borough to be an obstacle and no proposed wards cross it. The ward description sets out the defined borders of the proposed wards and deals with the three principles of i) electoral equality, ii) community identity and iii) effective and convenient local government. (C) Description of wards 1. Thamesmead East The proposed ward is defined to the north by the River Thames, to the east by Norman Road (beyond the Crossness engines and nature reserve), to the south by the North Kent railway line and to the west by the border with the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

We are pleased to commend the work of the Slade Green Community Safety Action Zone to the Panel. When planning the work in the zone the Steering Group were confident that this would deliver significant contributions to reducing the fear of crime that stops so many people living their lives as they would want to. The project has far exceeded our expectations. The multi-agency team leading the project have adopted the problem solving method, using the SARA principle, as a means of delivering this initiative, as indeed we do for most of our crime reduction work. We believe this is a testament to the efficacy of POP and look forward to developing this further in our future Community Safety Action Zones. We would ask the Panel to particularly pay regard to the results of the crime perception survey which has been conducted in four wards in the Borough, including the one which has benefited from this approach and which is attached to the submission at Appendix 4.
