Wow!!! It has been a busy summer. And it continues to be a pleasure and an honor to serve as your councilman. First off, I’d like to tell you about the exciting things happening in Ward 6, as well as some of the challenges we are addressing. Also, we are experience some transitions in our staff and operations. We are suspending Project Sparkle because of fiscal challenges and changes to federal guidelines pertaining to Community Development Block Grant dollars. Because of these changes, we can no longer offer our vacant lot-maintenance and grass-cutting/ snow-removal program to seniors in its present form. Come Celebrate Our Neighborhood’s New Grocery Store! Councilman Griffin is inviting the community to the grand opening of Simon’s Supermarket at noon, Saturday, October 6. This event will feature a variety of festivities in celebration of a much needed full-service grocery store in the neighborhood. “This is a very welcoming asset to the Buckeye neighborhood,” said Ward 6 Councilman Blaine Griffin. “When Giant Eagle pulled out of this site more than a year and a half ago, it posed an immediate and serious hardship to area residents, primarily to the seniors.” Councilman Griffin is inviting the community to come to the grand opening to meet and greet the new owners and enjoy free food, music, prizes and giveaways.
