It consists of four species distributed in tropical regions of South America, three of them are endemic of Colombia. This genus is infrequent in nature, with restricted geogra- phical distribution. C. subedentata Baker is threatened by extinction. The polar extract showed moderate cytotoxic activity. In previews phytochemical studies, by classical methods, we isolated six alkaloids: galanthamine, lycorine, haemantamine, maritidine, homolycorine and hamayna. In this work we reports 18 compounds identified by GC-MS technique: ismine, trisphaeridine, 5,6-dihydrobicolorine, ga- lanthamine, clidantine, narwedine, kirkine, galantindol, maritidine, anhydrolyco- rine, deoxytazetine, 6-methoxypretazzetine, tazzetine, haemantamine, 11,12-de- hydroanhydrolycorine, lycorine, homolycorine, epimacronine and one alkaloid not identified. www.relaquim.com Keywords. Velandia-Perilla1 Abstract The amazon lily Eucharis sanderi is a rare species endemic to western Colombia, with few locality records known. We documented the occurrence of the species for the first time on Isla Gorgona, near the Pacific coast of Colombia, based on a specimen collected in May, 2011. Isla Gorgona is an important protected area for the conservation of threatened species such as E. sanderi. We recommend that research be conducted to determine the conservation status of the population of this species on the island. Key words: Biogeography, Amazon Lilies, Eucharis, New locality records. Till date, the treatment of PD remains a challenge because available drugs only treat the symptoms of the disease or possess serious side effects. In light of this, new treatment options are needed, hence this study investigates the neuroprotective effects of an organic Boophone haemanthoides extract (BHE) and its bioactive compounds using an in vitro model of PD involving the toxin 1-methyl-4- phenylpyridinium (MPP+) and SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells. A total of seven compounds were isolated from BHE viz: distichamine (1), 1α,3α-diacetylnerbowdine (2), hippadine (3), stigmast-4- ene-3, 6-dione (4), cholest-4-en-3-one (5), tyrosol (6), and 3-hydroxy-1-(4`-hydroxyphenyl)-1- propanone (7).

In this work, by means of analysis by classical and CG/EM methods, the presence of metabolites with carbon skeletons of the lycorine and galantamine types is confirmed; some of these metabolites show a degree of inhibition similar to or greater than galantamine. These studies were carried out on species of the genera Eucharis , Plagiolirion , Phaedranassa , and Caliphruria , which were collected in the departments of Cauca, Risaralda, and Valle. Keywords : Alkaloids; Amaryllidaceae ; Eucharis ; Plagiolirion ; Phaedranassa ; Caliphruria ; Inhibition, Acetylcholinesterase. PhytoKeys 48: 1–9. doi: 10.3897/phytokeys.48.4399 Abstract New species of the genera Stenomesson and Eucharis (Amaryllidaceae) are described from Ecuador. Ste- nomesson ecuadorense is the second species of the genus reported from that country, and the only endemic one. It is related to S. miniatum and S. campanulatum, both from Peru, with which it shares orange flower color and the fusion of the staminal corona to the perianth tube. It differs from S. miniatum by the non- urceolate perianth, from S. campanulatum by its shorter stamens and longer perianth, and from both by its lower montane, cloud forest habitat. Eucharis ruthiana, found in the vicinity of Zamora, is related to E. moorei from which it differs by the narrower leaves and tepals; short, deeply cleft staminal corona; the long teeth on either side of the free filaments; the narrowly subulate, incurved free filaments; and the shorter style.

Amaryllidaceae plants are known for their ornamental flowers all over the word, but they also have a medicinal value owing to their exclusive group of alkaloids. The Amaryllidaceae alkaloids have a wide range of important biological activities, notably anti-tumoral, anti-parasitic, and acetylcholinesterase inhibition. This review focuses on the chemical characteristics of Amaryllidaceae plants and alkaloids, as well as the different methodologies applied in their study, including promising new docking studies. Introduction Amaryllidaceae plants are known for their outstanding attractive flowers (Figure 1), and are widely used and cultivated for ornamental purposes. For example, Narcissus species are extensively cultivated and exported for Correspondence/Reprint request: Dr. Jaume Bastida, Department of Biology, Healthcare and the Environment, Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences, University of Barcelona, 08028 Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain E-mail: [email protected] 70 Laura Torras-Claveria et al. ornamental use in the UK and the Netherlands, as are Lycoris species in China and Japan, while Crinum species are appreciated for their lily-like flowers [1].
