1969 DEMOCRATIC VICTORY DINNER Monday, January 20, 1969 Austin Municipal Auditorium, 7 p.m. Attendance is by Ticket Only To recognize the achievements of the Democratic Party in Texas, the State Democratic Executive Committee is sponsoring the 1969 Victory Dinner. Governor Preston Smith and Lieutenant Governor Ben Barnes will be honored on the eve of their inauguration, as will all other Democratic elected State Officials. Top-ranked stars from the entertainment world will appear. Speeches and introductions will be short. One ticket will be issued for each $25.00 contribution. The proceeds from this dinner will be used to expand the activities of the Democratic Party. Tickets will be issued from the offices of the State Democratic Executive Committee, 702 Brown Building, Austin, or may be secured from the district committeemen and committeewomen in their respective areas. Dress for the head table will be black tie; optional dress for all others. The occasion will feature continuous entertainment, short and few speeches, plus the opportunity of fellowship with the elected leaders of our state government and your fellow Democratic Party workers. OFFICIAL INAUGURAL ACTIVITIES INAUGURAL PRAYER SERVICE Tuesday, January 21, 1969 Ballroom, Terrace Motor Hotel, 7:30 a.m. Outstanding Texas religious leaders, representing all faiths, will participate in the opening event of the Inauguration Day activities. No seats will be reserved. Early arrival is suggested. Inaugural Festivities are open to all Texans; no invitation or ticket is needed. INAUGURAL CEREMONY Tuesday, January 21, 1969 South Entrance to The Capitol, High Noon The inauguration of Governor Preston Smith and Lieutenant Governor Ben Tfarnes is under the auspices of the Senate and House of Representatives. No seating will be available except for those on the platform. In the event of extremely inclement weather, the ceremony may have to be moved to the Hall of the House of Representatives. INAUGURAL PARADE Tuesday, January 21, 1969 Congress Avenue, 3:00 p.m. Dozens of college and high school bands, military floats and precision marching groups, plus Festival floats from all across Texas, will parade up historic Congress Avenue to the reviewing stand at the entrance to the Capitol grounds. During the parade there will be a continuous fly-over of various types of military aircraft. PUBLIC INAUGURAL GALAS Tuesday, January 21, 1969 Various Austin Hotels, 8 p.m. Several Inaugural Galas, open free to the public without any tickets required, will be held throughout Austin with musical stars from all over the nation providing the entertainment. GOVERNOR'S INAUGURAL BALL Tuesday, January 21, 1969 Austin Municipal Auditorium, 8 p.m. The Grand March, led by Governor and Mrs. Smith and by Lieutenant Governor and Mrs. Barnes, will highlight this colorful event which closes Inaugural Day festivities.
