Manitowoc Crime Prevention Committee Meeting 7, 2019

1) Roll call: Sgt Andrew Trilling, Deputy Jonathon Schwede, Nancy Boeck, Amy Schoepp, Rita Muench, Heather Buchko, Anne Jansen, Jackie LeBre, Ryllie Kiss, Amelie Doneff, Paul Kroch, Charles Rasmussen, Amy Lundberg, Kelly Becker, Steve Czekala & Melia Prange.

Excused: Katherine Andrastek, Bob Dewane, Annie Short, Christma Rusch, Grant Mihalakakos & Wendy Smith.

2) Minutes Approved. 1st by Amy, 2nd by Rita.

3) Treasure Report: Approved. 1st by Charles, 2nd by Kelly.

4) Request for public input: No public input.

5) Membership Matters: As of now we are full. Nancy Boeck will be taking a leave of absence from president and the committee. We have membership openings beginning .

6) TRIAD Update: On 24 they had a meeting at Felician Hall and it was there largest turnout. Lt Rick Tissler from the Sheriff’s Office is now on the committee. They discussed current events, memberships, scams, group activities and reaching out to other organizations to help get more deactivation bags.

7) High School Members Update: Amelie and Ryllie from Lutheran High School discussed a 1-hour cyber bullying program called Stand Up along with fun video called Look Around.

8) MTSO Update: Deputy Schwede reported an increase in car vs deer accidents. Their field training officers will get a break, because they are up to full staff. The Sheriff’s Office is considering 12 hour shifts and the jail will be testing out 12 hour shifts come January.

9) SRO Update: The middle schools have started a new system where the 6th graders switch classes at a separate time from the 7th and 8th grade to have less students in the hallway. D.A.R.E graduation dates are set. The North side graduation date is and the South side is 4. The McKinley school has been very busy. Its new location is at the former Stangel Elementary School. The Stangel students are now at Riverview.

10) Citizens Academy Alumni Update: They meet on the 2nd Wednesday every month and they are finalizing the latest academy. They are planning their fundraiser at Festival Foods in the brat stand during the plant sale. The Citizens Academy will run from 25, 2020 to 28, 2020. The graduation will be at 7 Lakes.

11) Healthiest Manitowoc County Substance Abuse Prevention: They had a fundraiser at Holiday Inn to kick off raising money to continue their program.

12) City Council Update: They had a personnel meeting to fill a patrol position and a community service position. Non registered vehicles that have been parked on the streets are now receiving citations. The winter parking band is being changed. Vehicles can be parked on the streets at night unless there is a snow emergency.

13) CPC Activities/Project/Scams: The Social Security Scam appears to be slowing down. There still are concerns with people giving up personal information.

Old Business: Crime Prevention month was discussed. Sgt Trilling would like ideas for future activities and ideas to change and grow. He will be rescheduling the tour of the morgue.

New Business: Nominations were completed for next year’s board.
