M.Sc in Geotechnical Engineering ABSTRACT: Urban development and increasingly growth of population have been accompanied by a considerable growth in mechanized Shield tunnelling. Commonly precast concrete segments used as tunnel lining in mechanized tunnelling and include relatively considerable part of tunnelling cost. The optimum design of lining that decreases tunnelling cost needs to accurate evaluation of loads act on lining. In this study, the effects of soil stratification, building’s geometry, position and weight on lining loads were studied. A 2D finite element model was applied to simulate the conventional procedure of tunnel excavation and lining using Abaqus software (Ver 6.10). The geometry of tunnel, lining segments, injection grout and around soil properties were adapted from under construction Tabriz urban railway line 2 project. The results show that ground stratification and building properties (especially the position of buildings) have considerable effects on lining loads. From the viewpoint of structural design, the buildings effect on lining is critical when the surface buildings are unsymmetrical. One of the biggest challenges in underground urban railway design is providing safe and economical design of stations at the same time due to the limited budget and high number of stations. Hence, accurate analysis and design is very important. This paper introduces a new modelling method by which has been examined Tehran Metro projects. On the other hand, based on model results and economical requirements an optimized structure analysis has been performed. For design optimization, two methods are described for underground railway station design. The first method considers risk assessment to select the best structural system and proper ways of soil stabilization through which reduces surface settlements up to allowable range. This procedure can be introduced as a modified NATM. By this method, a real design example including the comparison of the results with old construction method system (pile & rib) is compared. The second method presents a guideline to estimate the minimal rebar area required in sections which is crucial to maintain the serviceability of structures for 100 years and reduce the construction costs due to the scale and dimensions. -

Ghasempour Tabriat Modares university, Mining Engineering Department, Iran E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT The designers need engineering judgment to select the optimum option among the alternatives. The optimum choice can be selected by the expert engineers taking into account their judgment and immediate insight. Nowadays, decision-making methods can help engineers to support their decision in the scientific way. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a decision making method and is a branch of multi attribute decision-making (MADM) methods utilizing structured pair-wise comparisons. This paper presents an application of the AHP method to the selection of the optimum support design for the Tabriz Urban Railway(TUR) tunnel line no 2, which has been planned for transporting passengers from vali-Asr Square to Gharamalek State in Tabriz, Iran. The methodology considers five main objectives, namely: displacements in the roof and bottom of the tunnel, the factor of Safety (FOS), the economic and possibility factor for the selection of support design. The displacements and stress values were obtained by using the finite difference program, FLAC3D as the numerical studies have been widely used by the engineers examining the response of any opening in underground, in advance. After carrying out numerical models for different support design, the AHP method was incorporated to evaluate these support designs according to the pre-determined criteria. The result of this study shows that the AHP application is a good tool to effectively evaluate the support system alternatives for underground cavities. -

TEHRAN METRO HISTORY Tehran, as the capital of Islamic Republic of Iran, is the first Iranian city in terms of economic, cultural and social as well as political centralization. This eight- million people city that its population with satellite towns reaches to twelve million inhabitants faces the traffic crisis and its consequences such as fuel consumption, noise pollution, wasting time and accidents. Undoubtedly, construction of an efficient and high-capacity transportation system will be the main solution to overcoming this crisis. Today, urban rail transportation has become increasingly apparent in its role as a massive, safe, fast, inexpensive and convenient public transport network to reduce vehicle congestion, environment pollution, fuel consumption and promoting the quality of social life. In the first comprehensive urban plan conducted in 1958, a railway transportation discussion was observed for the city of Tehran. In 1971, the study of urban transport situation was assigned to Sufreto French Company by the municipality of Tehran. This institute presented a comprehensive report titled “Tehran Transportation & Traffic Plan” based on information, collected statistics and related forecasts for the development and growth of Tehran in 1974. A "Metro-Street" system was proposed in this comprehensive plan, based on the construction of seven subway lines with the length of 147 km, completed by developing an above-ground network toward suburb, a full bus network as a complementary for metro, a number of Park&Ride facilities around the metro stations and finally a highway belt network. Due to this, a legal bill regarding the establishment of urban and suburban railway company was submitted to the parliament by the government in April 1975, which was approved by the National Assembly and the Senate, in which the municipality of Tehran was authorized to establish a company called Tehran Urban & Suburban Railway Co. -

In this paper, the timetabling problem of a multiple tracked railway network is discussed. More specifically, a general model is presented here in which a set of operational and safety requirements is considered. The model handles the trains overtaking in stations and considers the stations capacity. The objective function is to minimize the total travel time. Unfortunately, the problem is NP-hard and real size problems cannot be solved in an acceptable amount of time. In order to reduce the processing time, we presented some heuristic rules, which reduce the number of binary variables. These rules are based on problem's parameters such as travel time, dwell time and safety time of stations and try to remove the impracticable areas of the solution space. Furthermore, a Lagrangian Relaxation algorithm model is presented in order to find a lower- bound. -
