º > ------* *-*** REPAIR kº, 2 1 C '08 District of JMassachusetts, to wit: BE it remembered, that on the twenty-third day of Sep tember, in the thirty-eighth year of the Independence of the United States of America, Russell, Cutler & co. and Joshua Belcher, of the said district, have deposited in this office the title of a book, the right whereof they claim as proprietors, in the words following, to wit: “A Complete List of the American Navy; showing the Name, number of Guns, Commanders’ names, and station of each Vessel, with the names of all the officers in service, for October, 1813; and Steel’s List of the Navy of Great-Britain, for July, 1813.” In conformity to the act of the Congress of the United States, entitled, “An Act for the encouragement of learning, by se curing the copies of maps, charts, and books to the authors and proprietors of such copies, during the times therein men tioned;” and also to an act entitled, “An Act supplementary 's to an act, entitled, an Act for the encouragement of learning, f by securing the copies of maps, charts, and books, to the au • thors and proprietors of such copies, during the times therein mentioned; and extending the benefits thereof to the arts of designing, engraving, and etching historical and other prints.” WILLIAM S. SHAW, Clerk of the District of Massachusetts. ADWERTISEMENT.
IN preparing the following pages for the press, great pains have been taken to present to the public a more correct list of the American Navy than has ever been published. Such a list it is believed is now completed; and the com piler is much indebted to the politeness of sev eral gentlemen of the Navy, for corrections which could not have been otherwise obtained. The latest Steel's List to be procured, is so far republished, as to convey all the information respecting the British Navy, which possesses * any interest for the general news reader. It is intended to publish, every three months, a corrected edition of these Lists, if the sale of the present promises encouragement to the un
dertaking. - The deep and general interest which has been excited in the publick mind by the valorous achievements of our Naval heroes, induces a belief, that the permanent establishment of a complete List of the American Navy must re ceive adequate patronage.
