Due to high levels of anti-social behaviour and drug activity connected to three addresses in David Smith Court, the Police applied to Reading Magistrates Court for House Closures under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. Residents had suffered years of intimidation and drug related activity from visitors to these properties. Closure orders can limit who is allowed access to specific premises thus offering some protection to the occupant or ban anyone at all from being at those premises for three months. On 29th March a partial House Closure was granted by Reading Magistrates Court for one such address in David Smith Court. On 6th April the court granted full closures for two other addresses at David Smith Court. Closure orders provide an effective way to tackle the tendency of some drug dealers to try to take over the homes of vulnerable people whilst also addressing the impact on local residents caused by the associated anti-social behaviour. This is an example of how Valley Police responds to Hidden Harm in our communities.
