Cardoso Abstract 38 species are added to the Portuguese Lepidoptera fauna and two species deleted, mainly as a result of fieldwork undertaken by the authors in the last year. In addition, second and third records for the country and new food-plant data for a number of species are included. A summary of papers published in 2007 affecting the Portuguese fauna is included. Abstract Additions, deletions and corrections are made to the Irish checklist of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera). Elachista biatomella (Stainton, 1848) is added to the Irish list. The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Key words: Lepidoptera, additions, deletions, corrections, Irish list, Elachista biatomella Introduction Bond, Nash and O’Connor (2006) provided a checklist of the Irish Lepidoptera. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe.

Passos de Carvalho (†) Abstrac 143 species of Lepidoptera collected by the authors and others in various localities in Portugal are listed as additions to the Portuguese fauna. 26 of the species are new records for the Iberian Peninsula.     CHESHIRE (VICE COUNTY 58) MOTH REPORT FOR 2016 Oleander Hawk-Moth: Les Hall Authors: Steve H. Hind and Steve W. Holmes Date: May 2016 Cheshire moth report 2016 Introduction This was the final year of recording for the National Macro-moth Atlas. A few species were added to squares during daytime searches early in the year but any plans to trap in under- recorded squares were often thwarted by cold nights and it was not until mid-July that SHH considered it worthwhile venturing into the uplands. The overall atlas coverage in the county has been good and our results should compare well against the rest of the country, although there remain gaps in most squares, where we failed to find species which are most likely present. Hopefully these gaps will be filled over the next few years, as recording of our Macro-moths continue. As always, a list of those species new for their respective 10km squares during 2016 can be found after the main report. A special effort was made during the winter to add historical records from the collections at Manchester Museum and past entomological journals, which will enable us to compare our current data with that of the past. Now that recording for the Macro- moth atlas is over, our efforts turn to the Micro-moths and the ongoing Micro-moth recording scheme. There is a lot to discover about the distributions of our Micro-moths across the county and the increasing interest continues to add much valuable information. 2016 was another poor year for moths, with results from the national Garden Moth Scheme showing a 20% decline on 2015 (excluding Diamond-back Moth, of which there was a significant invasion).

    WELFORD ROAD CEMETERY BIOBLITZ 2016 Acknowledgements The organisers would like to thank all partners involved in the event; particularly members of the public, surveyors and volunteers who gave their time to take part and without whom the Welford Road Cemetery Leicester BioBlitz 2016 would not have been possible. A total of 316 species were found during the Leicester Bioblitz at Welford Road Cemetery 120 children took part What Is A A BioBlitz is an event varying in length but can last up to one whole day (24-hours) during which intense biological surveys are conducted within a designated area. It aims to record all living species present, from animals and plants, to fungi and algae. A BioBlitz strives to cover as many taxa as possible, with specialist scientists and naturalists from a range of disciplines pooling their identification abilities and knowledge to produce a species record. The term was coined in 1996 by Susan Rudy, a US National Park Service naturalist who helped with the first ever event at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, Washington DC. Since then, BioBlitzes have taken place all across the world. BioBlitz events which are held annually/seasonally or in a particular location can help build up a better picture of how the site changes and supports biodiversity over time. Alongside the scientific data gathered, an important component of any BioBlitz is the involvement of the public and encouragement of citizen science. Events like this, which allow local people to engage with the biodiversity in their area, provide people with an excellent opportunity to venture into the world of science and conservation and to better understand the nature world around them.
