Segenlintir daripada pemuzik indie yang mula dikenali masyarakat mula mengambil kesempatan dengan menjadikan kepopularan mereka sebagai medium untuk menyampaikan mesej yang berbaur politik dan penentangan kepada pemerintah. Walau bagaimanapun, masih tidak ada satu pun daripada mereka yang mengakuinya. Kajian ini akan mengkaji bagaimana indie menggunakan budaya popular sebagai medium untuk menyampaikan mesej politik. Selain dari itu, kajian ini juga akan mengkaji bagaimana budaya penentangan itu wujud dalam muzik indie. Seterusnya, kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kualitatif iaitu selain daripada menjalankan kajian ke perpustakaan dan menggunakan sumber alternatif seperti e-journal dan e-book, hasil daripada kajian ini juga turut diperolehi daripada kajian lapangan iaitu melalui temu bual. Kajian ini telah menemu bual seramai enam orang responden dan salah satu daripadanya ialah sebuah kumpulan indie yang sedang meningkat naik iaitu kumpulan Pitahati. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa tiga daripada responden percaya bahawa terdapat mesej dan unsur penentangan di dalam lagu-lagu yang disampaikan oleh beberapa kumpulan indie. Walau bagaimanapun, ia datang dalam sulaman seni penulisan atau dalam kata makna lain bersifat tersirat. Manakala, tiga yang lainnya melihat mesej- mesej yang dikatakan berunsur penentangan itu hanyalah sekadar pendapat penulis lirik itu sendiri.
