: Altrincham is 's largest town and sub-regional shopping centre. It's at the hub of south 's modern transport infrastructure with major developments being undertaken within the ward. • : Bowdon is the largest ward in Trafford, semi-rural and has a low population density. The ward has a combination of several small, rural villages surrounded by open countryside, including Country and more densely populated residential areas. The majority of the ward is owned by the as part of the Dunham Massey Estate. • Broadheath: Broadheath has a become an area of major regeneration and has a mix of land uses. To the south the , industrial and retail areas, to the north a new housing development known as Stamford Brook. To the west it has agricultural areas with views across to Warburton and Dunham and to the east residential areas of . • Barns: lies at the southern tip of the Borough and is considered to be an affluent ward amongst the top 10% wealthiest areas in . The ward is diverse in nature and is home to large Jewish and Muslim community groups. • : Hale Central is a densely populated ward located to the south east of Altrincham town centre. Hale is the heart of the ward with restaurants, shops and bars • Timperley: Timperley is primarily a residential area in the south of the Borough. The south of the ward is more affluent than the north of the ward. The ward ranks within the top 500 of the least deprived wards in the country. • Village: Village ward is on the eastern boundary of the Borough adjoining Manchester along Brooklands Road. • The South locality has an estimated population of 79,917 across the seven wards (ONS, 2019).

• Data at the ward level suggests that all 7 wards in the South locality have the highest percentage of their population in the 16-64 years age group (ONS, 2019).

• Wards in the south locality relatively low BAME population (Census, 2011)

• Least deprived locality in Trafford but has some pockets of deprivation e.g. in Village ward (IMD, 2019)

Timperley ward has the lowest deprivation score in Trafford, followed by Hale Barns and Bowdon (IMD, 2019). All wards in the South locality have lower levels of deprivation. • School readiness and GCSE achievement better than England average across all 7 wards (Local Health, 2019)

• Three years rolling average from 2017-2020 suggests that 17.5% of Reception year and 28.1 % of Year 6 children are obese and overweight in the South Locality (Obesity Profile, 2020).

• Percentage of reception year children with excess weight are better (statistically significant) than England average (22.6%) for Bowdon (11.5%), Hale Central (14.5%), Timperley (16.9%), Broadheath (17.6%) and Altrincham (18.2%). Hale Barns (20.4%) and Village (23.2%) have similar percentage of reception year children with excess weight compared with England average (Obesity Profile, 2020).

• The percentage of Year 6 children with excess weight are better (statistically significant) than England average (34.6%) for Hale Barns (23.2%), Hale Central (25%), Timperley (26.6%), Bowdown (27.7%) and Altrincham (28.7). Hale Barns has the highest female life expectancy of 86.7 years in females across all Trafford wards, followed by Bowdon (86.3 years) and Hale Central (86.1 years). • The North locality contains the wards of Altrincham, Bowdon, Broadheath, Hale Barns, Hale Central, Timperley and Village.

• Age structure of South locality is fairly similar to Trafford as a whole (Local Health, 2019) and has a low BAME population (ONS, 2011).

• South is the least deprived of Trafford’s localities and contains some of the most affluent neighbourhoods in the country. This is reflected in the generally better than average health outcomes.

• South experiences significantly fewer deaths than would be expected compared to England and after adjusting for differences in age structure between South locality and England.
