Ruchi Kishore’s : DIRTY CHAI, a hip hop Bollywood musical DIRTY CHAI, a hip hop Bollywood musical, is a colorful & crazy dramedy, full of heart! Chaya Chandrika Gopi, or “Chai” as she likes to be called, is a rebellious Indian-American bride-to-be. Chai’s parents have promised her to a nice Indian boy and the wedding is in ten days. With her back against the wall, not yet ready to give in to this assault on her freedoms, Chai leaves home but unexpectedly falls in love with a charming & mysterious stranger, making a powder keg out of an already complicated situation. Chai finds forbidden love with a fearless American girl, Ronnie, and is trapped between upholding her family’s traditions or following her heart, which goes against everything she’s been taught. Chai is a messy concoction of two very different cultures, two conflicting identities, and two opposing desires, just like the dirty chai she orders each morning- a perfect brew of espresso and chai (tea). Her Indian father, Mr. Hardik Gopi, is a traditional Hindu man. Her White American mother, Mrs. Rani Gopi, converted to Hinduism after falling in love. Filled with excitement and sarcasm, DIRTY CHAI challenges the walls of formality, fear, and judgment that separate people. Every cause has an effect in this intricately interwoven dramedy about human lives, embracing family, and the chaos of falling in love. P.S. THE BUCHAREST UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMIC STUDIES The Faculty of International Business and Economics The Department of Modern Languages and Business Communication of ASE Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy Cluj- Napoca 7th International Conference: Synergies in Communication Bucharest, Romania, 22 - 23 November 2018 BEHIND THE SCREENS: A STUDY OF THE FILMS OF THREE INDIAN WOMEN DIRECTORS Minouti NAIK1 Abstract Indian films, even after 76 years of independence and 105 years of Indian Cinema, are a predominantly male domain. The percentage of women film makers, in the industry, is a mere 9.1%. Despite this, the films directed by women have compelled audiences to take notice, because of the wide spectrum of issues they have touched upon. Three women directors, whose movies have left an indelible mark on the audiences, include Tanuja Chandra, Meghna Gulzar and Gauri Shinde. This paper analyses the work of these three women directors, for the uniqueness of their themes and the characters they have sketched, and attempts to find out, what has led to their films being etched deeply, into the consciousness of their audience. This will be analysed against the backdrop of the realities of the society from which these films emerge, and as a reflection of the gender dynamics existing in Indian society. Keywords: Indian cinema, women, themes, characters, uniqueness 1. Introduction Men have sight, women insight. - Victor Hugo Victor Hugo‟s observation, penned down in his memoirs, might be an apt point to begin with, when one reflects upon films made by Indian women filmmakers. Despite films forming a very important facet of the Indian society and the fact that India completed 105 years of cinema, this year, the number of women making films in India is very small.

  • Badhaai Ho”Movie on Audience 2019-2020
International Journal of Multidisciplinary Approach and Studies ISSN NO:: 2348 – 537X Study of Impact of “Badhaai Ho”Movie on Audience 2019-2020 Dr. Kiran Gupta Mittal Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat, Gujarat ABSTRACT Background: Bollywood's revived love for movies with social commentary, which use humor, satire, and drama to reach wider audiences, have opened up discussions on hitherto taboo subjects—from menstruation to erectile dysfunction. The movies of that time advocated equality of caste, class, gender, and bridging of the rural-urban divide. But actors are tackling subjects as diverse as open defecation, erectile dysfunction, unplanned middle-age pregnancy and same-sex love, again, reflecting the zeitgeist. Purpose: The aim of the thesis is to study how subjective movies like these have impacted the audience. Also, to analyze people’s perspective towards movies addressing such issues. Method: To accomplish the purpose of this study, we conducted an abductive approach by the aid of quantitative data. The data was gathered through a questionnaire among general public. Conclusion: From the research conducted, I have found that people support the message given in the movie, they feel it is an issue to be addressed and also they can openly discuss such topics with family and friends. INTRODUCTION The history of cinema in India extends back to the beginning of the film era. Following the screening of the Lumière and Robert Paul moving pictures in London (1896), commercial cinematography became a worldwide sensation and by mid-1896 both Lumière and Robert Paul films had been shown in Bombay.

Indian cinema is a subject about which conceptions are still muddy, even within prominent academic circles. The majority of the recent critical work on the subject endeavors to correct misconceptions, analyze cinematic norms and lay down the theoretical foundations for Indian cinema.
