Rod Stewart Impersonator Rob Caudill Returning to Bristol FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Darlene Cole, Deputy Director Wednesday, August 27, 2014 Community Relations Office Phone: 423-764-4171 Office 423-366-7047 Mobile E-Mail: [email protected] Rod Stewart impersonator Rob Caudill returning to Bristol There are always songs that when they come on the radio, you go back to a time and place when that song was playing and memories were made. That is what Rob Caudill will be bringing to the Paramount Theatre stage as Rod Stewart-memories of an era gone by. From Hot Legs, Infatuation, Maggie May, and Forever Young to Downtown Train, each song will spark a time in life when you were young, the days were long, and love was new. The Friday, October 3rd event is sponsored by the local Marsh Regional Blood Center and hosted in the Paramount Theatre located on State Street in Bristol’s historic downtown at 7:00PM. Darlene Cole, Deputy Director of Community Relations said, “We have worked with Marsh Regional Blood Center before sponsoring other shows but this one has everyone so excited. It has all the elements of being at a Rod Stewart show in a glamorous setting such as the Paramount. If you haven’t seen Rob in concert, you have got to see this gentleman, from the accent, the onstage persona, to the voice, it is Rod Stewart.” Marsh Regional Blood Center has been the largest hometown supplier of blood and blood products in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia for more than 60 years. “The blood collected by Marsh stays here in the community. We supply a number of local hospitals in the region and operate collection centers in Bristol and Kingsport. We are collecting blood daily in our area. This is our home, too, and we believe in participating in community events,” said Don Campbell, Director of Marsh Regional Blood Center. People stop Caudill in airports for autographs, they stare at him in restaurants, and when he struts on stage women scream themselves hoarse. Why, one may ask, all this because Caudill is a dead-on Rod Stewart impersonator. He’s got the high definition jawline, the shock of spiky blond hair, but most importantly he has the nose. Vocally, his distinctive range easily nails every high note from Stewart’s younger days. The high energy show is a must-see event for people of all ages. Tickets are on sale now at etix.com or at the Paramount Box Office at 423-274-8120. For more information contact Darlene Cole at 423-764-4171 or email at [email protected]. ### .

ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION Hip-hop, Streetdance, and the Remaking of the Global Filipino by Jeffrey Lorenzo Perillo Doctor of Philosophy in Culture and Performance University of California, Los Angeles, 2013 Professor Susan Leigh Foster, Committee Co-Chair Professor Victor Bascara, Committee Co-Chair New York-based African American, Latino, and Caribbean immigrant youth of the 1960s and early 1970s gave life to one of the world's major contemporary cultural movements: Hip-hop. Initially misunderstood as a faddish form of Black male musical expression, Hip-hop's cultural resistance practices were quickly recognized as four core elements (emceeing, turntablism, graffiti art, and b-boying/b-girling). In the global context, Hip-hop has generated scholarly discourse that points to either the cultural globalization of American Blackness or a "global village." My project interrupts this conversation and focuses on the unique, multi-site cultural history of Filipino identity as constituted through practitioners of Hip-Hop dance. My work argues that a community of Filipinos, situated in different geo-political loci—Berkeley, California, Honolulu, Hawai‘i, and Manila, Philippines—configure prevailing concepts of Hip-hop while remaking conditions of ! ii dispossession and displacement in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.

  • Weekday Service Reductions 1
Comments received regarding weekday service reductions 1 Need earlier train for my commute The first train Northbound in the AM is too late and the last train Southbound in the PM is too early. REALLY??? Now I can't ride this train at ALL!!! I would be arriving 2 hour late to my office and leaving 2 hours early! Think people, think!!! Most folks work 8 hours a day, not 5 or 6! Keep the service the way it was. Otherwise, SMART will be ANOTHER USELESS EXPENSIVE public system, just like the GGBus and the rest of the bureaucratic inept transportation systems in the Bay Area. If you cut the weekday trips and I can't ride your train, my family, friends, and I will boycott and vote against every measure and every opportunity to give you money! Need earlier northbound trains, and later southbound trains The earliest southbound train does not get me to work on time by 2min. If this did not change I would not take the smart train. It is absolutely imperative to run the early morning (departing Larkspur at 6:38 am) train in order for me to be able to use the train for my daily commute. I do not understand why you would eliminate this most important time while leaving both a 9:30 and a 10 am train. Commuters who are commuting north for work that would take a 10 am train can easily take a 9:30 train instead, and just be a little early. For those of us needing the early morning train, there is no alternative that works.

  • Corey's Top 10 2018 Concerts
Corey's Top 10 2018 Concerts As 2018 ends and we look forward to 2019, I share my top ten concerts for the past year. This represents the eighth installment in this “series.” This past year, my wife me joined for six of shows that I include this year. I averaged almost two shows a month (I’d prefer more.) Several – including many good ones not on this list – featured multiple artists who could headline in their own right; that certainly made the overall experience closer to the feel attending something 30 to 40 shows when the actually number of shows totaled 23. The other nice factoid because it rarely works out that way involved how many shows (including a few not reviewed here) involved real faves of this commentator; this includes probably the five top artists I follow (though in three cases not with the original bands that caused me to follow their music. 1) I grew up loving the music of Creedence Clearwater Revival. That means songs written, and/ or arranged, produced and sung by one John C. Fogerty. Those songs rock and the solo stuff just follow with the standard John set with CCR. His band is great and includes his son Shane on 2nd guitar. Indeed, family seemed to be a common theme in a number of great shows I took in this year. It was certainly the best performance I ever experienced to date (and I blogged as such), not just by John, and no offense to other artists who really sang and played their hearts out at other shows I saw.
