This season is marked with a lot of historical significance - being the Intercounty League's (IBL) 100th season. I am very fortunate to celebrate a personal milestone, my 15th season as part of the .

We have completed our first anniversary of working with the London Majors Alumni Association to bridge the present players to the past players and we look forward to working even closer in the years to come. This group has done an amazing job of researching, investigating and collating past player statistics, individual and team photos, artifacts and stories for the IBL's project to create a Top 100 player list as well as a book to coincide with the start of the 100th IBL season.

The group of alumni that has worked tirelessly on this project have seen the fruits of their labour evolve into a well-documented history of not only our league, but also the London Majors in a soft cover and hard cover book. Therefore, I would like to personally thank; Barry Boughner, Dan Mendham, Dave Byers, Jon Owen, Wayne Fenlon, Arden Eddie, Barry Wells, Scott Aldridge, Brownlee and Braeden Ferrington for being stewards of our history. We will have a fantastic presentation to the London Majors that made the top 100 all-time list as well as the top players that the London Majors submitted for consideration to that list on our July 1st - Canada Day game.

Special thank you to our fans, sponsors, volunteers, game day staff, coaching staff, grounds crew, and City of London administrators who make the Majors experience a true community experience!

One glass per cusr Perspective Where has the time gone? This is my 13th season as the Manager of the London Majors and I still get as excited as I did for the start of my first season way back in 2006. It's a great honour to be the coach of these young men and see them mature both on and off the field.

The 2017 season started out great with the Majors going 14-0, however after losing our #1 to the pro ranks and having a few key injuries we fell off the track a bit but still finished the season with a 25- 11 record good for 3rd place in the league. In the playoffs we won our quarter-final series but lost in the semi-finals.

This year's team is again comprised mostly of local players from the London area (16 of the 21 players signed to date). We want to ensure we give the local kids playing minor ball the opportunity to play for the Majors. This year our 4 import players will be from the Dominican Republic and all 4 guys have played affiliated ball in an MLB organization, so they bring lots of pro experience to our club.

This is the 100th anniversary of the IBL and I want to congratulate all the players that were selected as the top 100 players in the IBL history. A special mention to the former London Majors players on this list (Barry Boughner, Dave Byers, Arden Eddie, Wayne Fenlon, Larry Haggitt, Jon Owen, Richard Thompson, Brian Murphy, Phil Schmidt, Stan "Gabby" Anderson, Tommy White) and to the one current player, Cleveland Brownlee. 1 We have the best fans in the IBL and your continued support is greatly appreciated. To see the stands full is a great feeling for everyone on the field.

We continue to preach three main things to all our players; HARDWORK, DEDICATION & RESPECT.

Go Majors Go!

Reid, a local London businessman, Tecumseh Park was laid out on the current site in early 1877. The first game at the park was held on May 3,1877, with a contest between the London Tecumsehs and its junior team, the London Atlantics. The Tecumsehs won 5-1. The park was later purchased by the Labatt Family in 1936 & donated to the City of London after $10,000 of improvements occurred. 130 years later it is still being used for its original purpose.

Aug. 29,1941: Honus Wagner, one of the first inductees to Baseball Hall of Fame, was photographed in the visitor's dugout at Labatt Memorial Park prior to an exhibition game between the and their Pony League affiliate, the London Pirates. More than 2,000 local fans were treated to some fancy base running and fielding by the Pirates, who defeated their London club 4-1.

Wagner enjoyed a long career at shortstop with Pittsburgh and later came out of retirement to join their coaching staff and make public appearances on the behalf of the team. In his major league playing days, from 1897 to 1917, Wagner excelled at every facet of the game. Many still consider Wagner to be the greatest baseball player of all time. Wagner and London native George (Mooney) Gibson shared the glory of a victory over the Detroit Tigers, Gibson and Wagner prevented Ty Cobb - a terror on the basepaths who led the League in stolen bases that year — from being a dominant factor in the contest. Wagner was a sympathetic and understanding coach, a teacher who related particularly well to struggling younger players. Several outstanding major league ball players were on the field at Labatt Park that evening, however, it was Wagner whose autograph was in the most demand and the fans couldn't see enough of him. Recently Wagner's 1910 baseball card was sold for more than $1 million dollars to hockey legend Wayne Gretzky. Only a few examples of it are known to exist. Wagner had withheld his card from circulation because he did not want to encourage the sale of tobacco products to youngsters. Money was not a big consideration to Wagner, who refused a huge signing bonus in 1901 to jump to the fledgling where Ban Johnston intended to establish a franchise around him. His commitment to the Pirates and remaining close to his family and friends in Pittsburgh were far more important than money to Wagner.

Sifton Visit Sifton.com/Sifton95 for more details! Experience. The Difference.™ The Strangest Home-Run Smash in Labatt Park’s Long History Forty-one years ago when the wood-loving beaver became Canada's official mascot, the 1975 London Majors, skippered by the late Roy McKay, won the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) pennant (20-8 record) and championship series against using a dynamite combination of pitching, defence and lumber. In 2015, the ’75 team was inducted into the London Sports Hall of Fame.

In fact, it was the last time The Local Nine won the IBL title, although the 2008 Majors won the league pennant (finished 1st in the regular-season standings), but lost the championship series with the Brantford Red Sox in Game 7 before 5,200 fans at LaBatt-LaBall Park'". McKay's outstanding '75 club was deep in talent and long on camaraderie and teamwork. Two of its five all stars were league MVP Mike (Killer) Kilkenny and slugger Larry (Haggar) Haggitt.

Killer was a tall, southpaw pitcher fresh from five seasons in The Bigs (Detroit Tigers, , San Diego Padres and Oakland A's) who still had all his stuff on the mound. He went undefeated (9-0) during the regular season and also in the playoffs (5-0). First-baseman Larry Haggitt won the '75 IBL batting crown with a .412 season average. According to IBL Iron Man and all-star teammate Arden (RD) Eddie, "Killer used to say before games he pitched, 'Just give me two runs and I'll take care of the rest”'Getting a hit off Kilkenny was like trying to steal a pork chop from a pit-bull terrier. Larry Haggitt, a powerful six-footer built like a brick shithouse, could really crush a baseball. "One night in '75 during the bottom of the 1st," says Eddie, "Haggar's at the plate and he launched one into orbit; a moon shot over the wood fence in right-field and out of the park”

As the tumblers of time would have it, Larry's wife, Rachel, who’d gone shopping at White Oaks Mall before the game, was travelling westward over the new Queens Avenue bridge on her way back to watch the game. Just after she arrived at the bridge's western end, a meteor-like baseball smashed into her front windshield. Or as Arden Eddie describes it, "the ball and the windshield arrived at the same Earth co-ordinates together and the ball and the windshield became one.”

Only after Rachel returned to the park did she discover it was husband Larry who’d dispatched the ball like a cannon, out of the park onto Riverside Drive. "It was funny as hell to everyone except Rachel and Haggar," says Eddie.

What are the odds of clobbering a game ball 475 feet into the windshield of your own moving car? Given that only one man in a million can even hit a baseball 475 feet, the odds of randomly smashing the windshield of your own moving car at that distance are astronomical. It's the only home-run blast during Haggitt’s career that lightened his wallet at Apple Auto Glass®.

Teammate Barry J. Fuller contends Haggitt “also drilled another one that hit the old Dutch Laundry on the other side of Riverside," an estimated 560 feet from home plate, during another game." "Haggitt was on fire that year," says all-star infielder Barry (Boogie) Boughner. "He hit that ball out of the yard in right field onto Riverside Drive and it’s still going."

For the uninitiated, baseball is a magical game of synchronicity, where playful Baseball Gods revel in creating unusual coincidences where split-second timing is everything. The field is the sacred stage, the infield a diamond. There's nine defensive players and nine . Runners move around the bases counter clockwise, but there's no time clock. Theoretically, a game can last forever.

When you think you've seen all the strange plays imaginable, another one unfolds before your eyes. As the late Yankee catcher Yogi Berra would say, "It's deja vu all over again.”

.Rondon ^Jladitiou 1925 The Intercounty Baseball League has been a part of summer in Southern Ontario for 99 years now and for its 100th season, the League is venturing into Eastern Ontario with the admission of the Fatcats. Ottawa replaces the Oshawa Dodgers who suspended operations following the 2009 season.

The League has had its ups and downs over the years, but it continues to provide baseball fans with exciting action every summer.

The League began in 1919 with just four teams...Galt, Guelph, Stratford and Kitchener. Despite a rocky start the Inter-County managed to survive its first season.

The rest, as they say is history.

It’s a long and rich history too. In the early years the League expanded with London, Brantford, Preston and St Thomas joining at various times.

By the mid 1930s, the Inter-County had established a reputation as one of Ontario's best amateur leagues. In fact when Stratford won the Ontario Baseball Association title in 1934, it was the League's fifth OBA title in a row.

The League survived the Second World War in good shape, even though many players joined the armed forces. After the war, the League became professional in everything but name.

The Inter-County was considered by the professional ranks as an "outlaw” league at that time. The bidding war for players was fierce, and many ex-major league players came to Ontario looking for a few last baseball bucks.

So many came, in fact, that the League was considered on a par with many minor pro leagues. Great crowds came out to see the games, which were played under floodlights for the first time in the 1950s, and the senior league appointed its first commissioner, John Gillies, a London lawyer and former pitcher in the League.

What was your favourite baseball experience so far? icnmc my first professional contract with the Joliet Slammers in 2015.

What do you find the most challenging about playing baseball? -Ixcs down the hardest part of baseball is being consistent Any one who plays can be good in a game here or there but going out and making an —nan every game is incredibly difficult.

What is your favourite position? 2 xmes to my favorite position I don't really have a preference as long as I get to hit But if I had to pick one, I would say second base because rs ±t easiest on my throwing arm.

What would you be doing if you wererit playing baseball? If I hadn’t chose Baseball after high school I would have gone the junior hockey route and seen where that would have ended up.

Who would you like to have dinner with? I would love to have had dinner with Jose Altuve from the Houston Astros and pick his brain about how he breaks down the game of baseball He is an unbelievable athlete and plays the game the way it should be played

If you could have any super power what would it be? If I could have any super power it would probably be the ability to fly. I traveled a lot as a kid and I remember looking out the window on flights and imagining myself carving through the clouds. So being able to live that out would be pretty awesome.

Who is our favourite player? Considering Tm an Angels fan I have to go with Mike Trout, he makes baseball look so easy.

What is your favourite thing to do in London? One of my favorite things to do is go golfing. There are a lot of beautiful courses around the London area..

Do you play any other sports ? When it's the offseason for baseball I try to get on the ice and play as much hockey as possible.

What's your favourite food? I could eat pasta almost every day and be happy, but nothing can really top a nice Steak

Where do you see yourself on 5 years? In 5 years I see myself coaching baseball at the High school or Collegiate level

Any advice for aspiring ball players. My advice to any ball player would have to be work hard and have fun Its easy to get so caught up in everything that you forget it's a game and you play for fun Don't get to low with the lows and don't get to high with the highs just find that nice middle ground where your enjoying the game. #27 Position: IF/OF Throws: Right Bats: Right Domino’s OVEN-BAKED GOODNESS
