Easily de- fined as Amsterdam without the headaches, the city is ideal for youth groups wanting an action packed tour in Holland without the distrac- tions of Amsterdam. Walking into Den Haag is like stepping through a Hans Christian Ander- son book. A visit to the town of any kind is a real treat. The ancient capital city of the Netherlands offers so much more to the tourist than the more popular newer capital city up the road. Den Haag is Holland without the headaches. For youth groups, Amsterdam is neither ideal nor popular with parents back home. The Hague howev- er, located just an hour away from ‘The Dam’ is a tranquil, relaxed Colchester RFC U16 after their tour match vs RC The Dukes (2017) and friendly location for a Dutch Rugby Tour. That's not to say there isn't enough going on in the evening to keep older teams entertained as well. With Holland being a small country, you can travel around easily. Rug- by fixtures and tournaments are available both in the Den Haag area, but visits to Amsterdam, Utrecht, Noordwijk and Rotterdam are all within easy access. As soon as you step into the city, you are met with style and class in abundance. The winding cobbled streets are enclosed with grand archi- tecture, and generally lead to a stunning square surrounded with cafes, bars and restaurants spilling out into the open space. Welcome to Silver Leys for our final home game before Christmas and of course 2016. I would especially like to welcome the Players, Officials and Supporters of Exmouth RFC. Everyone lucky enough to be here for our last home match against league leaders Chinnor will agree that they witnessed a compelling game. Even better it resulted in us registering a five point win over our rivals whilst restricting them to just the one try bonus point. Whilst the outcome of the match was never going to have a decisive impact on either team’s future. Our victory certainly made things a lot tighter at the top and sent the majority of those present, home with a smile on their face. I did say that a vocal crowd would make all the difference and so it proved. In the process we also discovered that we have some very capable ‘Banter-mime villains’ in our midst –Boo-Hiss!! Last Saturday at Redingensians was just as exciting. We managed to snatch a bonus point victory from half-way down the throat of defeat.

    Playing Rugby for Jordanhill College Rugby Football Club 1958 - 1966 John Henderson ‘The Boot’ Remembers Playing Rugby for Jordanhill College RFC ‘The Boot’ Remembers When I first matriculated in October 1958 at the Scottish School of Physical Education, Jordanhill, Glasgow to undergo a three year diploma course of training in order to qualify as a teacher of Physical Education, I had no idea that some years later my senior rugby career would turn out to be as creditable as it did. Although I knew then that I was a very accurate and lengthy instep place-kicker of a rugby ball, I was under no illusion that my getting a place in the Jordanhill College Rugby Football Club top squad would be easy, nor did I have any notion then that retaining a first choice spot in the 1st XV for a good number of seasons might possibly occur. However, I was aware of the fact that graduating from College was not the end of the opportunity to play senior rugby for Jordanhill, as former students as players were not only considered eligible, but were also deemed essential in order to maintain a fighting chance for coach Bill Dickinson‟s side to compete at the highest levels possible in Scotland. Thus time was on my side, if only I was patient, and prepared to work hard at the game. But first I had, during my student days, to convince mentors Bill Dickinson and George Orr of my potential, and then, if this was accomplished, to provide consistent proof thereafter of my continuing value as a full back/three-quarter and place kicker in the top side in its annual attempts to win the Scottish Unofficial Club Championship and the Glasgow District Knock-Out Trophy.

    Edition 10: 20th September 2013 Rugby World Cup 2015 Lead Up and Legacy Activity The RFU launched the seven strands of its national Lead up and Legacy plan on October 31st 2012. The aim of this is to set out an overall framework against which national resource will be invested in the lead up to RWC 2015 with the aim of increasing interest and participation in the game. Whilst many Clubs, CBs, Schools, Colleges, Universities and other bodies are working hard to develop local projects to meet identified local need these seven strands are areas in which we will invest national resource to create change in Rugby communities across the country. It is hoped that those delivery bodies that have not yet identified their focus will focus in on these areas and take action to improve provision and opportunities against these themes. Six Regional Activation and Legacy Groups are now up and running and are working to add value to the seven strands and to engage partners from outside of the immediate rugby community in supporting the efforts of those within it. Each group is populated by representatives from CBs and from the wider community. Attached as an appendix to this CB update is a brief overview of progress against the seven strands along with listings of clubs/projects etc involved to date – this will be updated for each issue. In addition to the work against the seven strands strong working relationships have been established with England Rugby 2015, the Organising Body for the tournament itself, and an update on relevant areas are also included in the appendix.
