All of the pupils put in an amazing effort with the following pupils winning for their year group. Special congratulations go to our Year group winners Year Girls Boys The final house results were 1 Eleanor Samuel 2 Niamh Jacob Prep Rabbits (Romans) 3 Bella Logan Juniors Saxons 4 Phoebe Ayo Seniors Romans 5 Suri Alex 6 Kayleigh Arthur 7 Kiera Jamie 8 Georgia Harry 9 Rosie William 10 Kitti Chris 11 Katlyn Archie NEESA DISTRICT SENIOR CROSS COUNTRY On Monday 13th November, our best senior cross country runners participated in the North East Essex District Cross Country championships. 20 schools competed for places in the Essex Championships. Every runner tried their very best for CHS with amazing performances coming from Kiera, district winner for the Year 7s and Georgia who came second in Year 8 and 9th overall in Year 8&9 girls. Congratulations to Elsa, Tommy, Jamie, William, and Chris who all finished inside the top 20 out of approx. 100 runners in each race. 2 NATIONAL ISA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP The National ISA Cross Country Championships were cancelled for the second year on the trot and after three attempts. It is such a shame because I know we would have been amazing. To have qualifiers from Year 4 all the way up to Year 11 makes me very proud. Well done team. AMAZING PERFORMANCES AT THE ISA CROSS COUNTRY REGIONAL CROSS COUNTRY Congratulations also to the pupils who participated at the ISA Cross Country Regional Competition at Finborough School on Friday 19th January. We had some amazing results and the top 10 runners all attended the Nationals in March. Well done to all our pupils who participated, running against tough competition. Congratulations to Kayleigh Essex Spring School Games Year 6 Girls Cross Country Champion for the 4th consecutive time! 3 3 ATHLETICS AMAZING RESULTS FROM THE ISA SENIOR SCHOOL REGIONAL ATHLETICS COMPETITION Our pupils had a great day at the ISA Senior School Regional Athletics Competition at the Garrison. All the pupils pushed themselves to do their very best and represented the school really well. Please see below some of the highlights. BIRMINGHAM The ISA National Athletics which was held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham was a great example of our pupils competing at the highest levels of Sport. Our golden girls Kiera and Kayleigh did not let us down and were in great form becoming new national champions in the Year 7 1500m and Year 6 600m respectively. Kiera even set a new national record with 5.06 and wants to go under 5 minutes next year! They weren’t the only ones. Every CHS pupil brought their ‘A’ game and congratulations also go to Henry returning to the scene of his amazing Year 4 600m victory and taking a bronze with the Year 8/9 boys relay team. Hayden was also a great example of this gaining a bronze in the 80m hurdles and then jumping a 50 cm PB in the Year 8/9 Long Jump. I am very proud of all of our qualifiers. 5 ISA JUNIOR ATHLETICS 2018 AT THE GARONS, SOUTHEND On Friday 8th June our Junior School athletes travelled to the Garons in Southend. The team were superb and tried their very best against 18 schools that were present. Congratulations go to Ayo (600m) and Kayleigh (600m) the new ISA EA champions! Also to Alex (600m) joining them at the Nationals. Ayo also took silver in the Year 4 long jump and Hanif took silver in the Year 5 Cricket Ball throw. NEESSA DISTRICT SENIOR ATHLETICS @ THE GARRISON TRACK Competition was extremely tough against all of the secondary schools in the local area, most with many more pupils than CHS to select from. In total, there were 16 schools present, but every pupil did their very best. Congratulations go to Kiera—1st Year 7 girls 1500m , 3rd in the Year 7 Girls Shot Lily - 2nd place in Year 8 girls High Jump. Charlie—4th in Year 8 boys 200m. Hayden—4th in both the Year 9 300m and the Long Jump. Chris—4th place in the Year 10/11 1500m. Georgia—5th place in the Year 8 girls 1500m. 6 SWIMMING COLCHESTER HIGH SCHOOL PROUDLY HOSTS THE INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION REGIONAL SWIMMING GALAS On Wednesday 15th November Colchester High School hosted the Junior ISA East Gala (School Year 4- 6) and on Wednesday 22nd November, the Senior ISA East Gala (School year Year 7-13) at Crown Pools in Ipswich. At stake for each event winner was a place in the East Anglian team for the ISA National Swimming Championships. 20 ISA schools from all over Suffolk, Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire took part with Colchester High School winning the overall Senior event. Adam Dowson, Head of PE at Colchester High School organised both events with the Year 10 & 11 GCSE PE pupils and staff from Colchester High School on behalf of ISA EAST. Mr Dowson said “It was great to see so many schools in attendance at both of our galas. It ensures that we as a region will be able to take the strongest team possible to the national championships and give so many pupils the opportunity to experience such a great sport on the highest stage at the Olympic Pool. We are of course incredibly proud of all our own pupils who did so well in the regional gala and would like to specifically congratulate Georgia, who won both the Year 8 girls Breaststroke and Freestyle and William, who took first place in both the Year 9/10 boys Butterfly and Individual Medley. William also broke the 1 minute barrier in the 100m Open Freestyle (pictured).” CHS Winners Year 5 Girls 50 metres freestyle - Suri; Backstroke and Butterfly—Issy; Backstroke and Butterfly—Kara Breaststroke and Freestly—Georgia; Butterfly and Individual Medley—William P; Backstroke and Butterfly—William C; Backstroke—George W; Breaststroke—Fergus C; Breaststroke—Maddy S; Freestyle—Christian T 7 COLCHESTER HIGH SCHOOL MEDAL SUCCESS AT ISA SWIMMING NATIONALS AT THE LONDON AQUATICS CENTRE, STRATFORD William was in top form taking on the Year 10’s and bringing back four medals, including two golds in his individual events. The CHS team swam brilliantly and gave their all for their school and their region. Sadly though, it was the last meet for Christian who finishes his GCSE’s this summer. Thank you for your hard work and commitment over the years Christian. INTERHOUSE SCHOOL SWIMMING GALAS Congratulations to all the pupils for participated in the Interhouse School Swimming Gala. Our winners were: Champion Swimmer Winning House Year 3 Nikitas Danes Year 4 Phoebe Romans Year 5 Suri Saxons Year 6 Louis Normans 8 EQUESTRIAN CHSA EQUESTRIAN TEAM’S AMAZING YEAR The CHSA Equestrian team (Shanel, Kitty and Aaron) continue to showcase some amazing riding in 2017-18. NSEA Regional Championship—13 rosettes with 3 team placings out of 3 entries - 3rd place in the 60cm champs, 1st place in the 70cm qualifier and 2nd place in the 70cm champs.. On top of that Aaron got an individual 2nd place in the 70cm qualifier and an individual 2nd place in the 70cm champs, Shanel got an individual 4th place in the 70cm qualifier and Kitty got an individual 6th place in the 70cm qualifier. Jays Equestrian Centre, Suffolk—Aaron was amazing in the 70cm speeding his way to an individual first place and Kitty beautifully jumped her way to an individual third place! Overall Shanel, Aaron and Kitty came away with sachets for Team first place! In the 80cm Kitty jumped to perfection landing her in 5th place as an individual.
