An imposing property, it began life in the 15th century and is of the traditional ‘Wealden’ open hall construction type. The crown post supporting the roof (originally visible from the ground but now located in the loft) is still coated in the soot from smoke of bygone centuries. Heading slightly further afield you are virtually equidistant from the quaint villages and towns of Debenham, Mendlesham, Needham Market and Stowmarket, which provide all necessary amenities, and the catchment schools are Stonham Aspall CEVA primary school and Debenham High School, which are both highly regarded. Nearby independent schools include Finborough School and Framlingham College, while in and around Ipswich are Ipswich School, St Josephs, Orwell Park, The Royal Hospital School, and Ipswich High School. Stowmarket station is six miles away, providing easy rail links to London (90mins) Cambridge (70mins) and Norwich (35mins). However current pressures for development in the countryside, and the changing agricultural and recreational practices and pressures, are resulting in changes that in some instances have been damaging to the local character and distinctiveness of the landscape. 1.1.1 Some development is necessary within the countryside, in order to promote a sustainable prosperous and vibrant rural economy. However, such development would be counterproductive if it were to harm the quality of the countryside/landscape it is set within and therefore the quality of life benefits, in terms of health and wellbeing that come from a rural landscape in good condition.1 1.1.2 The Council takes the view that there is a need to safeguard the character of both districts countryside by ensuring new development integrates positively with the existing character. Therefore, a Landscape Guidance has been produced to outline the main elements of the existing character and to outline broad principles that all development in the countryside will be required to follow. 1.1.3 Well designed and appropriately located development in the countryside can capture the benefits of sustainable economic development whilst still retaining and enhancing valuable landscape characteristics, which are so important to Babergh and Mid Suffolk. 1.1.4 The protection and enhancement of both districts landscape is essential not only for the intrinsic aesthetic and historic value that supports tourism and the economy for the area but also to maintain the quality of life for the communities that live in the countryside.

    23rd February 2018 Dear Parents/Guardians The children have applied themselves well to the NFER, spelling and reading tests this week. The results of these tests will be shared with you at the parents’ evenings in the next couple of weeks. Letters for booking a slot at parents’ evenings went out yesterday; please return these promptly to your child’s form teacher. World Book Day is next Thursday, 1st March. All children are encouraged to come in dressed as their favourite book character (please no Disney or Marvel characters) to celebrate the day. May we also ask that children make their own name badge for their costume so that all children feel included. We will also be hosting our annual book swap where children bring along an old book of theirs and are able to swap it for a different book; they can then purchase any additional books so please ensure they have a small amount of money with them; proceeds will go to the purchase of books for the library. Donations of books for the swap/sale prior to this date will be welcomed. Over the half term break, Daniel Franco-Key played in a National tennis tournament at Easton College and finished 13th out of 32 competitors; he beat the number 4 seed in the tournament too and last weekend he played in an Under 12 competition at Culford School and finished as runner up; two excellent performances. Also over half term our swimmers competed in the second weekend of the Suffolk County Swimming Championships. We are currently placed 3rd in the overall club competition, 68% of the swims have been personal bests (PBs) and the squad have achieved 94 regional qualifying times and won 11 gold, 12 silvers and 12 bronze medals.
