Aquaculture Department, Tig- bauan, ILOILO, Philippines Abstract — Commercially important tropical freshwater and marine finfishes are commonly spawned with pituitary homogenate, human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) and semi-purified fish gonadotropins. These preparations are often adminis- tered in two doses, a lower priming dose followed a few hours later by a higher resolving dose. Interval between the first and second injections may vary from 3 - 24 hours depending on the species. Variable doses are used even for the same species and may be due to variable potencies of the gonadotropin preparations. Synthetic analogues of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRHa) are becoming widely used for inducing ovulation and spawning in a variety of teleosts. For marine species such as milkfish, mullet, sea bass, and rabbitfish, a single LHRHa injection or pellet implant appears to be effective. Multiple spawnings of sea bass have also been obtained following a single injection or pellet implant of a high dose of LHRHa. In a number of freshwater fishes such as the cyprinids, LHRHa alone however has limited efficacy. Standardized methods using LHRHa together with the dopamine antagonists pimozide, domperidone and reserpine have been developed for various species of carps. The technique may also be applicable for spawning marine teleosts that may not respond to LHRHa alone or where a high dose of the peptide is required. Although natural spawning is the preferred method for breeding cultivated fish, induced spawning may be necessary to control timing and synchrony of egg production for practical reasons. -

Ebied2 and Mohammad allam3 1- Zoology Department, Faculty of science, Port Said University, Egypt. 2, 3 Cytogenetic Laboratory- Zoology Department- Faculty of Science (Qena) - South Valley University, Egypt Abstract: The RAPD-PCR analysis was carried out on three species of fresh water fishes of family Schilbidae (Schilbe mystus, Schilbe uranoscopus and Siluranodon auritus) by using twenty primers. All twenty primers amplified successfully on the genomic DNA extracted from all studied fish species. The number of bands was variable in each species. Schilbe mystus produced number of bands 174, and Schilbe uranoscopus 193, while in Siluranodon auritus 210 bands. A total of 295 DNA bands were generated by all primers in all specimen, out of these DNA bands 97 (32.88%) were conserved among all specimens, while 198 bands were polymorphic with percentage 67.12% of all the twenty tested primers produced polymorphism in all specimens table 22. These results are discussed in relation to implications of RAPD assays in the evaluation of genetic diversity. This was conducted by enumerating and identifying fish species composition, meas- uring the fish length, fish weight, assessing the fish abundance and biomass, determining the length-weight relationships and the length-frequency of the fishes. Altogether, 592 fishes were sampled comprising twenty-eight (28) species belonging to sixteen (16) families. The families identified included: Cichlidae, Mormyridae, Clariidae, Channidae, Malapteruridae, Gymnar- chidae, Bagridae, Mochokidae, Polypteridae, Pantodontidae, Abstract Schilbeidae, Anabantidae, Osteoglossidae, Characidae, No- topteridae and Distichodontidae. The Niger Delta is one of the most prominent regions in Nigeria, endowed with several water bodies that are distributed as freshwater like rivers, lakes, streams and creeks. These freshwater ecosystems in the region, are abundantly endowed with fish species such as Clarias gariepinus, Pila ovate, Labeo coubie, Synodontis budgetti and Synodontis eupterus. Apart from the freshwaters, the region also has vast marine ecosystem with abundance of fish species such as Elops lacerta, Mugil cephalus, Thais coronata, Periophthalmus papilio, Tympanotonus fuscatus, and Sardinella maderensis. Unfortunately, many of these fish species are endangered due to constant pollution in the Niger delta regional coastal environment. As a result, it is important to document some available freshwater and marine water fish species which will serve as a reference material for both academics and research institutions, should any of the fish species go into extinction. (Monogenea, Dactylogyridae) from the siluriform catfish Loricaria prolixa Isbrücker & Nijssen, 1978 (Siluriformes, Loricariidae) from the state of São Paulo, Brazil, supported by morphological and molecular data. In add- ition, notes on the circumscription of the genus with a redescription of Demisdospermus anus are presented. Demidospermus spirophallus n. sp. differed from other congeners mainly because of the morphology of the male copulatory organ (MCO), which exhibited 2½ counterclockwise rings, a tubular accessory piece with one bifurcated end and a weakly sclerotized vagina with sinistral open- ing. Demidospermus prolixus n. sp. presents a counterclockwise-coiled MCO with 1½ rings, an ovate base, a non-articulated groove-like accessory piece serving as an MCO guide, two different hook shapes, inconspicuous tegumental annulations, a non-sclerotized vagina with sinistral opening and the absence of eyes or acces- sory eyespots. Correlation statistics was carried out Abeokuta to ascertain relationship between absolute and relative fecundity with Nigeria length and weight of fish. Length and weight of experimental fish ranged between 14.5-39.4 cm and 938-1956 g. The relative fecundity ranged between 441 and 3,597 eggs with a mean of 1,702±0.16 eggs while absolute fecundity ranged from 5,838 to 39,208 eggs with a mean of 14,326±0.52 eggs.
