TUESDAY 2 JULY TELEVISION & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS / BBC WEEK 27 ______

Children of the Devolution, Ep 2/2  LAST IN THE SERIES Tuesday 2 July BBC Scotland, 10.00 – 11.00pm

On the 20th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament, journalist and broadcaster Allan Little embarks on a journey across Scotland meeting people from different generations to find out how their lives have been changed by devolution, and to ask whether the Scottish Parliament has the imagination, the courage and the power to meet the challenges of the future. He meets those in their sixties who remember Scotland before devolution, those in their 30s and 40s who came of age in the 90s when the parliament began, and the younger generations who have never known a Scotland without a parliament. In this second episode, Allan explores some of the Parliament’s flagship policies. He heads to the pub to discuss the smoking ban, goes back to his old school in Stranraer to canvass opinion on free university tuition and travels to the Highlands to reflect on the challenges posed by Scotland’s ageing population. He also takes the temperature of the health service in a devolved Scotland, hears how immigration continues to be a contentious area of policy between Holyrood and Westminster and travels to Dundee to get the inside track on an economic success story. As he makes his way across the nation, Allan also gets the inside story on the Parliament’s first two decades from First Ministers, MSPs, journalists and campaigners.

The stage is set as our four bakers head home to create their baked goods. Favourite Lindsay gets busy with her raspberry, fresh coconut and lemon layer cake whilst ‘king of winging it’ Khaliq intends to put his own spin on an online recipe with a first-aid themed entry that leaves his colleagues in stitches. Olivia is hoping she won’t be up all night making her ‘midnight snacklet’ cookies, but can she pull off the presentation? Last but certainly not least, Lucy’s vegetarian breakfast pies are the only savoury entry in the contest and she’ll be hoping they leave series judge Nichola Reith and guest judge Richard Copeland AKA The Wee Baker wanting more.
