EMOTION

Matt 21:10 When entered , the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” 11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the from in .” ======John 11: 47 Then the chief priests and the called a meeting of the . “What are we accomplishing?” they asked. “Here is this man performing many signs. 48 If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.” 49 Then one of them, named , who was high priest that year, spoke up, “You know nothing at all! 50 You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.” ======John 11: 54 Therefore Jesus no longer moved about publicly among the people of . Instead he withdrew to a region near the wilderness, to a village called Ephraim, where he stayed with his disciples.

John 11: 55 When it was almost time for the Jewish , many went up from the country to Jerusalem for their ceremonial cleansing before the Passover. 56 They kept looking for Jesus, and as they stood in the temple courts they asked one another, “What do you think? Isn’t he coming to the festival at all?” 57 But the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that anyone who found out where Jesus was should report it so that they might arrest him. ======:11 Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to with the Twelve.

Mark 11: 12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fg tree in leaf, he went to fnd out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for fgs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.

The next day – Tuesday – as they were walking to Jerusalem for that day -

Taqsh Small knobs around where figs will appear MARK 11: 15 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, 16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. 17 And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’ [c]? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’[d]” Luke 19: 47 Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. 48 Yet they could not fnd any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.

Mark 11:20 In the morning [Tuesday], as they went along, they saw the fg tree withered from the roots. 21 Peter remembered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, look! The fg tree you cursed has withered!” ======Mark 11: 22 23 “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “Truly[f] I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father [26] in may forgive you your sins.” [g]

Matt 11:31 this way -- Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

Luke 20: 9 He went on to tell the people this : “A man planted a vineyard, rented it to some farmers and went away for a long time. 10 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants so they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 11 He sent another servant, but that one also they beat and treated shamefully and sent away empty-handed. Mark 12: 13 Later they sent some of the Pharisees and to Jesus to catch him in his words. 14 They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. 15 Is it right to pay the imperial tax [b] to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn’t we?” But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap me?” he asked. “Bring me a and let me look at it.” 16 They brought the coin, and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. 17 Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” And they were amazed at him.

START HERE Mark 12: 18 Then the , who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 19 “Teacher,” they said, “ wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. 20 Now there were seven brothers. The frst one married and died without leaving any children. 21 The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. 22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died 23 too. At the resurrection[c] whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?” 24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the in heaven. 26 Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of , the God of 27 , and the God of ’[d]? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!” Mark 12:28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” 29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O 30 Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. [e] Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your and with all your 31 and with all your strength.’ [f] The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ [g] There is no commandment greater than these.” 32 “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifces.” 34 When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions. Mark 12: 35 While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the is the son of ? 36 David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared: “‘The Lord said to my Lord:

“Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies [h] under your feet.”’ 37 David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?” The large crowd listened to him with delight. But there is no record of any Response on this question from the Pharisees or Priests – it is not something they could accurately know.

And then Jesus sort of brings their years of interactions to a close with a series of direct judgements against them – MATT 23 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a fnger to move them. 5 “Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their 6 phylacteries[a] wide and the tassels on their garments long; they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the ; 7 they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others. 8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. 10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant. 12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Verse 13-36 of this chapter give a series of condemnations and woes that include the following:

HE CALLS THEM: 13 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! (6 times) You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. You make new converts twice the child of hell that you are He calls them Blind Guides (1 x) and Blind Fools (2x) and Blind Men (1x) and then criticizes specifc teachings they give for each one and shows how they are incorrect He says they are full of greed and self-indulgence He says they are like whitewashed tombs – beautiful outside and full of dead mens bones and everything unclean. They appear righteous but on the inside they are full of hypocrisy and wickedness. He calls them Snakes and a Brood of Vipers- and asks how they can avoid being Condemned to Hell.

He concludes with Verse 35-36 MATT 23:35 And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36 Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation.

======MATT 23:37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. 38 Look, your house is left to you desolate. 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’[c]” JOHN 12:37 Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him. 42 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the ; 43 for they loved praise more than praise from God. ======Luke 22 Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching, 2 and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. 3 Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. 4 And Judas went to the chief priests and the offcers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. 5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money. 6 He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.
