6 Rome The first Vatican Stanze 1508-1514 a.y. 2019 2020 History of Architecture Prof. Maria Beltramini Vatican Palace Plan of Julius II apartment on the third floor The four stanze (rooms) of the apartment (nn. 15,14, 13, 12) were state rooms communicating with Julius private quarters (nn. 9, 10) and with the small chapel (n. 11) painted by Beato Angelico in 1448 during the reign of Nicholaus V. Rooms 7 and 8 were also renovated by Raphael who designed their beautiful new wooden ceilings for pope Leo X, whom entrusted the artist also with the decoration of the Logge (n. 17), facing east towards the Borgo Vaticano.
