After all, who knew SouthWest Germany was home to so many breweries and different types of beer? Even hops – the key to any great beer – are grown here on a large scale and exported to locations around the world. Young, creative microbreweries are springing up left and right, bringing fresh ideas to a market typically dominated by mid-sized breweries with long traditions. This increased competition means nothing but great things for you, the customer; when you visit one of our region’s charming beer gardens, you can expect smiling faces and the red-carpet treatment as you enjoy the best beer Germany has to offer. After all, with the 500th anniversary of the German Purity Law, or “Reinheitsgebot”, just around the corner, we’ve had plenty of time to become masters of our trade. This law was established an entire five centuries ago in 1516, making it the oldest food law in Germany to still be in effect today.

HAVE GERMAN WILL TRAVEL FEST "Bei uns ist immer was los!" Sep 26, 2013 "CANNSTATTER VOLKSFEST" I "WASEN STUTTGART FOLK FESTIVAL www.cannstatter-volksfest.de Millions of Travelers Expected to Attend the 168th Cannstatter Volksfest The Cannstatter Volksfest takes place each year in Stuttgart. Attraktionen auf dem Cannsta------tter Volksfest-------------- While all eyes are fixed on Oktoberfest, the German city of Stuttgart is getting ready to open its own seasonal festival. The Cannstatter Volksfest, an annual autumn fair, is the second-largest beer festival in the world, attracting millions of visitors each year. Although the Cannstatter Volksfest (also known as the "Wasen") is a fair best known for its roller coasters, carousels and Ferris wheel, it became the second-largest beer festival by accident, following Oktoberfest. Each year, 4-5 million people visit this folk festival for a taste of German culture. The fair is well-known for the display of its Fruchtsaule- an 85-foot "fruit column" topped with decorative fruits and vegetables. This pillar was originally designed in the 1800s and is considered a relic of the old monarchy. The "fruit column" is redesigned every few years, and is also featured in the Stuttgart Spring Festival. The Wasen is also famous for its Ferris wheel, which measures about 200 feet in diameter and is considered the largest mobile Ferris wheel in the world. In addition, the festival boasts a second, 154- foot Ferris wheel, a number of rollercoasters, a 217-foot free-fall "Powertower," several carousels, a haunted house, nearly 100 different food stands and numerous other entertainment stands.
