MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Pahnunp Valley Museum is to collect, conserve, preserve, restore and study the history of Pahrurnp Valley and its surrounding area. Though studying the history, saving artifacts and recording local oral histories this facility will insure that Pahrump will maintain its presence in history. Preservation, conservation and restoration of historically significant local buildings assures that the Museum will have provided the historical groundwork for educational purposes, enlightenment of facts and providing an historical experience. Cultural tourism will become larger as the expansion and growth continue locally. By providing educational opportunities for the younger generations, scholars, historians and people who are just curious we'll guarantee that Pahrmp will not become just another dust laden memory that dots the old west horizons. History of Pahrump Valley Museum

The Pahruxnp Valley Museurn began as a mere idea of Chuck and Marilynn Gallivan to have a museum in Pahnunp Valley. Through their collective hard work and undying dedication towards that goal they collected memorabilia, historical artifacts and items of local interest. Their mission was to save items from Pahpfor the future.

Mr. Gdlivan spent countless hours encouraging anyone that he had contact with to get on board to try to save parts of life in Paknunp for posterity. In 1992 his dream of a museum took a giant step forward when Harry and Masy For donated the land and water for the Museum. The Pahrump Valley Museum and Historical Society was incorporated in 1992. By that time countless volunteer hours had been spent saving items to place into the museum.

The physical address at Basin Road and Ford Place provided a location for all the things to be stored, sorted and saved. The next hurdle was to involve the county commissioners to plan for an actual building. Nye County Board of Commissioners fimded, in a two stepped project, the construction of the present building starting in 2001 through 2002. During the entire process the volunteers, the Board of Directors and people of Pahrump were hard at work doing whatever it took to reach the goal of having a Museum to house the history of Pahmlp.

The uncountable volunteer hours and hard work provided the backbone of the planning, collecting, comming and wesenting item would finally pay off when the doors to the new MIXPU-Ibdding were opened $9 the pubiic. Dedication eereiaony, oa Gctober 31. 2003, was the official opening of the Pahrump Valley Museum. The opening was attended by town residents, local diakesand State Oflicials.

The Museum provides Pahmp with an educational center, a historically significant President Abraham Lincoln collection and a tourist destination for visitors. Being rural in p has become a vacation mecca for tourist ;tom around the world. Many drive through the tom or perhaps stopped for fief and food to just con~nue down the road towards other des~ations. Now many people visit and stay at least over visitors passin oors continues regis&ation Musew is a living and go~nghistorically Charles S. Visitor Reeords for Pahrump Valley Museum

This report was compiled using actual data from the Visitor Registration Book which we use as a tool to validate visitation. We took an actual count of every page to compile the following data. This data will be used for this report and as a testing mechanism for any grant moneys that will be received in the future.

The first data that was available was from July, 1997. The Museum was staffed with onfy voiunteers. There were no set open time and no actual main building. We feel that the sporadic open time and Iack of personnel might account for the low visitation num In 2003 the county ofEdye granted the Museum enough money to finish the existing building.. At that time volunteers were still uti as the primary souc personnel. In 2084 the county allowed enough for the Museum to have a part-time clerk to Museum open on a basis . If you look at the bcrese in the they reflect the increase usage of the as a regular destination for travelers and local people.

Every six months we have looked at the increasing numbers as a test of mlidity of meeting out goals and mission smtement of serving the communi8, town and peopIe of Parhump Valfey. The Chamber of Commerce recommend the Museum as a tourist, "must see and visit", to all who come into their office.

who have used the Museum as a learning facility is also on the rise. SeveraI schools, clubs and groups regularly schedule outings using the Museum as 1 point of their meetings. The regular usage by Schools, Boy Scouts and service organimtions serve the community as a c and educational hcili~.The demand for more services continue to

We would like to request an increase in our budget to include a full time person as a Director so that we can meet our plmed gt ti3'ri;wds eiipaiisioii of o-m present fa&fiiy. We know that there is no old down town area in bbmp. w-e have received request almost weekly as to where is the old damtown etc. During the upcoming next year we plan to build a Main Street behind the existing Museum building. This ofd Street would include the that we akeady ( the bycrag RR Tie House, heOM Chmber of Cmerce BuiIding, the mining shaft, the Water tower, and Binion vault area) have and would include the future acquisition of other significant buildings (the Pahmnp General School house, the old Silo, and the old Manse Motel units.) Travelers to Pahmp are absolutely inquisitive and then appalled that there is no centmIly located old town. The Musem is filling the history gap that exist for the visitors by providing the useum experience ineluding ioeal history.

The third set of data shown above does not reflect a six month riod, so if you just double the numbers you will c dear piciure that is representative of our growth. Historically significant uildings that we need to captur

At some time in history the town of Pahrump donated several historical building to a worthy cause as a temporq home with the designation that at some time in the kture the buildings would reve~to the Pahrump Museum.

When the buildings were delivered on HWY 372 for the tempomw home for abused animal efforts the land was being donated by the Calvada Corp. Later the Galvada Gorp. closed their offlces and filed bankruptcy with the court system for relief from some of their debts.

The courts during the last year sold off many parcels of land that belonged to Calvada Corp in a lot sum. There no mention of the return sf the buildings to the We are making a concentrated effort to reclaim the fo1Iowing building to be moved to the Pahrump Valley Museum property on Basin Rd.

1. The little red school house. This little one roomed school house was the backbone of the educational system in the Pahrump Valley. We plan to restore this building and set up a display scene of a functioning earlier schoolhouse. We plan to have hands on demonstrations where children and visitors atike can set in old desks, use old typewriters and share stories about their sclnooi years. We also plan to set up a genealogy proom so that we might be able to record past residents as the visit

2. The Pahmp Store. This building also was moved all over the valley and represents a significant portion of living history as related to Pahrump's yesterday. We plan to set this store up as a period reievant store where people cm truly have an oid store visit.

3. . The grain silo was once used in agriculture and then moved into the Pahrump Valley. This building is where we wish to set up a working barn where actual fanning demonstrations can take place. We will plant a small plant garden near so that people can see things &at used to grow here. Cotton will be featured.

4. Old Motel &. This two room unit was donated by the ankh family md we would like to restore it to its period specific time. This building was moved from the Bolder Dam project area to the Pahrump Valley and used here.

We are actively working with tom officials, an attorney and voiunteers to secure these buildings. We have been assured by several military instillations that they will be willing to work with us as a community project to move an place these building.
