Appendix 1: Awards Committee Final Report

Good afternoon Brothers, This year the awards committee was tasked with the purpose to determine the recipients of this year’s A. Frank Martin Top chapter award, the outstanding sponsor award and the Music Education Awareness award.

The Awards committee was charged with the following: ● To continue to use and update the rubric used as a reference during presentations by the A. Frank Martin Top Chapter Finalists to make sure it is up to date with the fraternity at that moment in time.

As the Awards chair I was charged with the following: ● To send out any documents pertaining to the district awards to the awards committee before the Northeast District Convention to allow for more preparation. ● To set the times of the A. Frank Martin finalists’ presentation before the Northeast District Convention.

Before the committee members listened to the A. Frank Martin top chapter presentations, we were able to see some of the chapters at the IPsi and history fair. During our first committee block we heard presentations from the five chapters that were nominated for the A. Frank Martin Award. We would like to thank all of the chapters for their informative presentations and willingness to answer questions. The chapters were evaluated based on how their activities reflected our four pillars of Music, Service, leadership and brotherhood. Later in the day we met to discuss the presentations as well as the applications for the Outstanding sponsor award and the Music Education Awareness Award. The winners of these awards will be announced later in the day. I would like to take this time to thank all of the brothers and chapters that submitted applications for this convention and participated in presentations,

Moving forward, I would like to request that award applicants include as many details and examples as possible from the brother or chapter submitting them. Broad and general claims that do not include enough supporting information cause problems during our discussions. The committee would like to see specific examples about how your chapter embodies our fraternal values and purposes. By doing so, the committee will be able to have more critical discussions and evaluate the applicants more fully and accurately.

We charge the next Member-at-Large with the following:

● To provide a description and the requirements of each of the awards to the committee 21 | 2019 Kappa Kappa Psi Northeast District Convention Minutes – University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, MA

● And gather information about the awards before the convention begins

We charge the next awards committee with the following: ● Establish a rubric for each of the awards based on our pillars ● A lot more time for presentations and questions for each of the top chapter presentations

I would also like to thank all of my committee members for their cooperation, hard work, and input during this process- Phil, Ashley, Travis, Jeramiah, Decklan, David and Antonia. It was my absolute pleasure to work with each of these outstanding brothers. I would also like to thank Kaity for her support before and throughout convention and the district council for giving me the opportunity to become a chair for this convention. To be able to serve the district was a valuable and worthwhile experience that I am extremely grateful to have had.

Now for the part that everyone has been waiting for the announcements of the award recipients. First, I would just like to announce that the A. Frank Martin Top Chapter award will be announced during banquet tonight. The Music Education Awareness Award will be awarded to a chapter that does multiple service projects with secondary schools. They have impacted the students in their area and have encouraged the continuation of music education throughout all education levels. I am pleased to award the Music Education Awareness award to the Kappa Gamma Chapter from Lehigh University.

The Outstanding Sponsor award will be awarded to a man that has truly impacted his chapter in the most positive way possible. For the past two years as their sponsor he has been there to support the brothers in any way possible including having one on one meetings with the brothers to ensure their wellbeing. I am proud to award the Outstanding Sponsor award to the sponsor of Theta Beta, James Kang.

Respectfully submitted, Melissa Bannon Kappa Kappa Psi-Nu Omicron Awards Chair 2019

Appendix 2: Finance Committee Final Report

Brothers of the 2019 Northeast District Convention:

The committee was charged with the following from the previous financial committee:

● Increase the District Travel Fund to accommodate for National Convention in Stillwater, OK. ● Increase the NatCon Travel Grant ● Increase the NedCon Travel Grant to give more opportunity to chapters.

With these charges put forth, the Finance Committee believes that the following adjustments to the budget need to be made to help set up the District Council as well as the brothers of the District with a successful year.

In order to give more chapters the opportunity to make it to District Convention, the committee advises that there be an increase from $525.00 to $575.00 for the NEDCon Travel Grant. The Committee also advised that seven chapters be chosen each receiving a total of $75.00. The committee felt that the fundraising goal should increase to $500 and a permanent year round fundraising committee be established. The Committee advises the delegation to make the secretary/treasurer the chair of the committee and the Vice-President an ex-officio member.

The finance committee also made the following amendments to the 2019-2020 budget:

First, increase the District Officer Travel fund from $2,350 to $2,500. This increase is due to the fact that this year is NatCon. This is a decrease from last NatCon budget because the district officers fell under budget with travel expenses. The committee felt that the officers would still be able to effectively serve the district with this amount. Second, decrease the District Officer Funds from $150 to $100. The committee felt that keeping the individual allocations and pooling them together as was done last year would allow officers who did need more money than allocated to be able to repurpose the funds. Third, decrease the budget for the website from $750 to $150. After a conversation with Governor Marie, the committee felt that the district could reallocate the money to help chapters in the district. Fourth, increase the Chapter travel grant from $525 to $575, this would allow for a $75 grant to 7 chapters in the northeast for travel to convention. Finally, increase the NatCon travel grant from $0 to $500, this would allow for a $100 grant to 5 chapters in the district for travel to NatCon. This increase to the budget from last convention year is to allow for more chapters to attend NatCon, and celebrate the centennial.

This proposed budget will allow the Northeast District to operate efficiently and effectively as well as operate at a small net profit. In order to maintain future financial stability and the service capabilities of the Northeast District Council, the 2019 Finance Committee issues the following charges: 23 | 2019 Kappa Kappa Psi Northeast District Convention Minutes – University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, MA

To the 2020 Finance Committee: ● Continue to increase funding to travel expenses to chapters to increase opportunities for brothers.

To the 2019-2020 District Council: ● Maintain an updated budget and communication of said budget with all chapters which allows for transparency and ease of understanding for all brothers. This includes written financial statements such as a balance sheet and income statement. ● Install a year round fundraising committee, the head of which is the secretary/treasurer. District council recruits and forms the committee with 2 members per precinct, and will have the committee formed and announced to the chosen members by June 1st to allow for time for preparation for fall semester.

To the 2019-2020 Fundraising Committee: ● Create and maintain inter-chapter fundraising and cooperation within the district.

I would like to thank the finance committee for meeting and having great discussions. I would also like to thank Ed Savoy for giving advice that allowed us to create a sound budget. I would like to thank Ema for her diligent work in creating working budgets as well as answering questions asked by the committee. Last but not least, I would like to thank the District for giving me this opportunity to serve. It has been a truly great experience!

Fraternally Submitted, Ryan Brannon, 2019 Finance Chair

Revised budget proposal

The committee made the following recommended adjustments to the 2019-2020 budget: ● Increased the District Officer Travel Fund from $2500 to $3000. This is to allow district officers to attend national convention, given the increased cost of travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma. ● Combined the NatCon and NedCon travel grants to create a chapter travel grant and allotted $600. The committee recommends that the council will distribute the funds as needed on a per chapter basis.

Appendix 3: Historian/Alumni Liaison Final Report

Brothers of the Northeast District,

24 | 2019 Kappa Kappa Psi Northeast District Convention Minutes – University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, MA

This year has been an absolute whirlwind. Ever since I attended my first convention, participating in the fraternity at a level beyond my own chapter and connecting with brothers outside of my university was a desire of mine. Unfortunately, the decision was made for me last year when I was unable to attend the 2018 convention because of a chapter and band obligation. When there were still positions to be filled, I knew it would be my last chance to apply. One year later, it has easily been one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career. It has been quite an adventure this year, with being HAL has definitely been a “what you make of it position”. Some projects I worked on this year include: -An alumni appreciation week, where I also featured the alumni associations from the district who opted to participate. -Make the history fair more engaging, interactive, and provide a context of where our District came from (I will take pictures of the timeline and send it to chapter historians to provide to brothers who could not attend). -Begun the process of archiving the successful District and Precinct bids (and will be doing the same with officer candidates). -Archiving the documents of convention planning so the next council can be proactive in the tasks that need to be completed. -Promoting NEDAA to the best of my ability and making sure I could be a support when necessary. -And once the elections are finished, archiving the candidate bids so the council will have a reference for next year and can provide resources for the 2021 bids. -Created a Facebook group to have an additional way to communicate with HALs across the district, which was helpful for sending out info but to be honest not much better than email in terms of getting feedback and collecting ideas With the shifting role of HAL in who they work with, I also worked with some other members of the council to send a proposal to at least start the conversation of changing HAL into a Vice President of Programs and reallocate certain duties in the council to ensure that each position has duties that truly fulfill their vision and role. This year has been so incredibly rewarding and I hope that my accomplishments will set up the future HAL for further success.

To the 2019-2020 Northeast District Historian/Alumni Liaison, I charge the following: ● Find a creative and different idea to engage the district in our history. This does not have to be exclusively at convention ● Establish a communication with NEDAA to support them if they need help beyond the governors and national alumni associations ● Compile and share worthwhile alumni projects ● Archive the District and Precinct Bids for future councils to reference throughout their term. ● Explore the possible platforms that can connect chapter HALs with each other

To the 2019-2020 Northeast District Council, I charge the following: ● Be proactive in connecting with each other

25 | 2019 Kappa Kappa Psi Northeast District Convention Minutes – University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, MA

● Try new things and be comfortable with the possibility of making mistakes, otherwise how will we grow ● Have an extended transition meeting/period to ensure every council member is comfortable and confident in their duties, the district’s vision, and the communication between themselves and the governors ● Create an evaluation/feedback form that goes out to chapters during the school year to receive feedback from chapters. We shouldn’t wait until convention to address issues and then have people try to reinvent the wheel. There are some people I have to thank for their contribution to my growth as a leader and brother. First off, thank you to the sister council, as well as the student advisory committee, for providing me incredibly important perspectives of this fraternity and showing me the bigger picture of how we function as a brotherhood.

To the northeast district council, it has been an absolute pleasure working with each of you. I am so grateful that I was able to travel and visit each of your campuses and see the lives you live out as outstanding band members and brothers of Kappa Kappa Psi. To Katie, you taught me the importance of passion and determination- now you just need to remember to not be so hard on yourself all of the time! Also, sorry we constantly played every possible cover of Take me Home, Country Roads even though you’re the only one from West Virginia. To Ema, You have grown so much as a leader in the past year and you’ve become one of the closest friends I’ve made in the district. Your values and voice are so important, and I can’t wait to see the future impacts you’ll have in the fraternity as a brother and the impact you will have on your students as a teacher. To JT, thank you for always being a goofball and putting a smile on my face EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. We talk. Your dedication to succeed at everything you do is inspiring, especially with the face that you are graduating after three years. Andrew you crack me up. I am so thankful that you encouraged us to always work our best without micromanaging and letting us find our own identity as an officer. I was briefly nervous About balancing this commitment with student teaching, but you’ve ensured that we can communicate with each other and be productive without the pressure of constantly being on call for a skype meeting. You made sure that I could be successful no matter what, and I will always be appreciative of you as my President and as my friend. I would like to thank my chapter. They taught me the importance of helping myself before I can help others, a lesson I brought to other chapters in my precinct workshop. Iota Phi has made me a much better person, musician, leader, educator, and friend. I never thought I would end up in a fraternity, let alone being on the district council. Without them, I would have never discovered one of my greatest passions, this fraternity. I’m so proud of the our growth as a chapter, and I will never forget all you’ve done for me Lastly I would like to thank you, brothers of the District. Connecting with you throughout the year has been incredible. I have learned so much from this district, and still have so much to learn. As I come to my last couple months of active membership, I look forward to entering this next step of fulfilling a lifetime commitment to the bands and this brotherhood. I can’t wait to see the things we do as we enter our second centennial. Appendix 4: Member-at-Large Final Report Brothers of the Northeast District,

The opportunity to serve as your District Member-At-Large has been an experience like no other. It has certainly taught me so much about our organization, our district, and even about myself. If you wouldn’t mind, I want to share my story.

One of the biggest projects was the “Chapter of the Week” to showcase chapters and what they do. My hope was that chapters would take the information to inspire service and brotherhood bonding. What I didn’t expect was how well received it would be from active and alumni brothers and sisters. I received numerous comments either online or in person saying how they loved to see what chapters were doing and I hope that this kind of project can be continued even after I have finished my term. I was also very excited and pleased to work with the other district Member-At-Large’s and Vice President of Programs’. Granted, we were all involved in the Student Advisory Committee with all District officers, it was beneficial to have separate meetings talking about what exactly we do, exchange ideas and improve ourselves, and discuss what we want to look for in future MALs/VPPs. Something I wish I had more involvement in was district wide relations with . Coming from a chapter that currently does not have a TBS chapter, it was difficult to understand exactly what they do and how they operate. Communication with my TBS counterpart served to be a problem and we ended up not being able to plan anything until the last minute. However, I have learned from this experience and hope to learn more about TBS and how I can bring that kind of information and relation to my chapter.

27 | 2019 Kappa Kappa Psi Northeast District Convention Minutes – University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, MA

To the upcoming Member-At-Large: Congratulations! You are in for a wonderful experience and I wish you the absolute best of luck. In addition to your constitutional duties, I charge you the following: ● Utilize the Corresponding Secretary and Vice President of Service Facebook pages. This was something I didn't know I had access to until it was too late, and I was unable to create any projects involving them. Start thinking now. ● Find a way to reach out to chapters consistently throughout the term and make sure that their opinions are heard by the council/governors. The District can often seem like a broad area of ideas, and we want to hear specific ideas from our brothers. ● Find a way to create an online form for the Awards applications rather than a pdf/document. I believe it would make the application process for awards a lot more convenient as well as encourage more to apply. ● Take this position seriously, but make it your own and have fun!

I would like to thank some groups of people for their help during my time as a District Officer, starting with my home base the Active Omicron chapter. I am forever grateful for the support and love you have given me during my time as a District Officer. I understand it is not easy to put full and complete trust in a brother who decided to run for council, and I had my fair share of doubt, but I thank each and every one of you for giving me the opportunity to run for District Office. All I hope is that I was able to help as much as I could with distributing information from the District and I hope I have made you all proud.

To the Governors: Your expertise and knowledge about this district have helped each and every one of us tremendously. From keeping us in line and sharing sassy stories, it was truly beneficial to work with all three of you and I hope that I can still look to you for guidance in the future.

To the Northeast District Council: I always knew we would be friends simply based on how much we would be working together. It wasn’t until our first “bonding call,” when everything just clicked between the five of us, that I realized what an amazing group of brothers that I have the honor of calling council and friends. ● Eustaquio: for being the only District-appointed Historian/Alumni Liaison, you have done a phenomenal job with finding ways to incorporate history and ties to our alumni brothers of our district such as the continuation of Alumni Appreciation Week and the History Fair here at convention. You are a wonderful brother and really know how to establish a line between working and having fun. I would also like to give a public thank you for letting me geek out about KKY in Orlando when we just happened to run into each other. 28 | 2019 Kappa Kappa Psi Northeast District Convention Minutes – University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, MA

● Ema: as a former Secretary, I know taking minutes is difficult to do, especially when your Skype sessions crash and you have no idea what was said for the past five minutes. Even so, you did an amazing job in making sure all information was correctly portrayed in our minutes. Your bubbly personality was always able to bring a smile to my face and brighten my day (even in stressful convention circumstances). I wish you the absolute best of luck in your endeavors to run for District Council again, I’m sure you will do great. ● JT: It was amazing to see how quickly you took action to the tasks you had to do. From reaching out to VPM’s across the district immediately after the officer information was distributed, to handling the vacant workshop blocks for all precinct and district meetings, you were always on top of what needed to be done. I will certainly miss our road trips to all of the meetings. ● And finally, Andrew: my first interaction with you was via Skype call when I was being interviewed for the MAL position on council. I was internally panicking the entire time thinking “Oh man, I will be talking to THE Northeast District President.” It was even worse when Skype crashed on us and I had to do my entire interview via phone, thinking that I was absolutely crashing and burning in my interview. After joining council, I finally got to see what an amazing brother and leader you are to the NED. Planning a convention is not easy, but you’ve made it work. I’m so proud and I’m very thankful to work on council with you.

And finally, thank YOU, brothers of the Northeast District. Before I was appointed to the council, I believed that I was simply one brother among hundreds, nobody really important. It wasn’t until I joined council that my opinion about that perspective had changed. From travelling to all three precinct meetings and to the district convention here today, I have learned that a brother is not just a brother. A brother is a leader, a musician, and a friend. You, the brothers of the Northeast District, are the ones that taught me this valuable and irreplaceable lesson. For that, I am eternally grateful, and I thank each and every single one of you. It is my hope that you take that individuality that each and every one of you have and teach that same lesson for years to come.

Respectfully and Fraternally Submitted,

Good Afternoon Brothers and Sisters of the NED,

The Committee would like to thank all sitting members for their help and participation in ensuring a thorough process that reflects the best interest of the delegation. We would also like to thank our advisors, Emily Donovan and Marie Burleigh for helping us so much through this year of transition. We are confident that our time with this Committee will allow for continued growth within our districts joint relations and will help the process of submitting bids and hosting conventions to become streamlined and accessible in the future.

The charges for the 2019 Joint Convention Site and Publications Committee were as follows: 1. Review duties of the committee as defined by the KKY and TBS Northeast District constitutions during first committee meeting. 2. Assess the effectiveness of charges made to the District Council, specifically the effectiveness of workshops and webinars. 3. Provide each committee member with an electronic copy of the following documents prior to first committee meeting: ● 2018 Joint Convention Site Charges for 2019 30 | 2019 Kappa Kappa Psi Northeast District Convention Minutes – University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, MA

As explained in the Joint Opening Session, since no chapter submitted an electronic bid as is constitutionally required, this committee could only review and comment on the submitted bid for the chapters’ reference.

The 2019 Joint Convention Site Committee then discussed how district leadership could make hosting a convention more attainable for chapters. We concluded that this can be done through the presence of more communication within the joint leadership team, more proactive support for potential host chapters, and the proliferation of documents pertaining to bid requirements and hosting. We also discussed the possibility of having multiple chapters from different schools work together to lessen the burden of hosting. Finally, we believe that continued personal encouragement for chapters to host from the leadership team would be incredibly valuable to individual chapters’ motivation to commit to an undertaking of this magnitude.

The charges for the 2019-2020 District Council are as follows:

1. Making the electronic bid policy publicized so that more chapters are aware of this obligation 2. Compiling past successful bids to pool into an online resource for potential host chapters to reference when preparing their bids for convention 3. Compiling the contact information of past convention chairs for future host chapters to reach out to 4. Send contact information for the 2020 Committee’s delegates to each of the 2020 Committee Chairs at least 48 hours prior to convention

The charges for the 2019-2020 Joint Convention Site and Publications Committee are as follows:

1. Create a separate eligibility checklist for chapters in the NED to come together and host a convention at a hotel or convention center rather than a college/university 2. Reviewing the effectiveness of the electronic bid policy 3. Provide each committee member with an electronic copy of the following documents prior to the first committee meeting: o 2019 Joint Convention Site Charges for 2020 Committee o 2019 Joint Convention Site Committee Report o 2019-2021 TBS National Constitution o 2019-2021 KKPsi National Constitution o 2019-2020 TBS NED Constitution o 2019-2020 TBS NED Standard Operating Procedures o 2019-2020 KKPsi NED District Operations Guide o 2019-2020 KKPsi NED Constitution o District Bid Eligibility Checklist, made by the 2018 Joint Convention Site Committee o Bid Requirements for Hosting District Events (last edit 2018) o District Convention Host Chapter Handbook (provided by National Headquarters)

Appendix 6: Secretary/Treasurer Final Report

This past year as Secretary/Treasurer has been an incredible experience and I am thankful to have had the opportunity to serve the Fraternity on the District level. After being elected as Secretary/Treasurer, I was excited to start serving on the District Council but I was nervous about what I really had envisioned for this position since I had run for a different position last year. I had the continuous support of my home chapter, my council, the TBS council and the governors to ensure that my position was moving in the right direction.

As Secretary/Treasurer, I did a lot of work with the constitution, making sure that the formatting was consistent and submit that to the Jurisdiction Committee. I worked to promote the travel grants for District Convention. I worked to maintain an accurate budget for this operating year to keep track of District spending and fundraising, and to provide the Finance Committee with accurate information during this convention. I served on the Student Advisory Committee that has given me the opportunity to work with the other Secretary/Treasurer’s across the country. We all still talk in a group chat about fundraisers its really cute. This year, I have came up with precinct and district convention fundraisers and I also worked to complete a fundraising guide that I presented at the precinct meetings as a workshop.

To the 2019-2020 Northeast District Secretary Treasurer, I charge the following: • Further promote the travel grants and work to help encourage chapters to apply • Continue to edit the fundraising guide to promote good and effective fundraising within the NED • Keep up the organization with the google drive so that communication and transparency stays true within the council · Create fundraising opportunities in the fall semester 33 | 2019 Kappa Kappa Psi Northeast District Convention Minutes – University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, MA

· Offer your leadership and knowledge to other chapter secretaries and treasurers

To the 2019-2020 Northeast District Council, I charge the following: • Stay in contact with the District Officers throughout the year. This is your team. • Work with the Tau Beta Sigma Northeast District Council to plan joint events and communicate as much as possible. They are also a huge resource for you to pair up with. • Use the Governors as a resource when you have questions that are not answered by your duties in the constitution. • Determine the most effective way to communicate to the District and utilize the brothers of the District for ideas and feedback. * Plan and prepare for activities and fundraisers in the fall semester

To Nu Rho, my home chapter, thank you for being SO supportive. I would not have had the courage to run for council is it wasn’t for the continuous encouragement from all of you. I especially thank my two best friends that traveled all the way from Virginia to be here to represent our chapter.

To the District Council, y’all are some of the most dedicated and hardworking brothers. I am so lucky to have spent this year with all of you. There are so many memories that I will cherish forever. I am very happy to have all of you in my life and have formed some of the best friendships because of this experience. I didn’t want to pour my heart out in this because then I will cry, so I will save all of my tears for when we say goodbye on Sunday. I am so proud of everything we have accomplished this year and I cannot wait to see what you accomplish in your careers.

Andrew: Thank you for being a fantastic role model, leader and friend. I want to give a huge apology for blowing up your phone almost on a daily basis. You made this experience so much fun and I cannot wait to see how successful you are in the future.

JT: Thank you for being the comic relief in the council. We love you, I promise. You work so hard in everything you do and I am so proud of everything you have accomplished so far. You give me so much confidence and always inspire everyone around you to strive for the highest.

Katie: Thank you for being my girl friend on the council. I know I can come to you for a hug when I need it, a shoulder to cry on and one of the best support systems I have ever had.

Staqui: Thank you for being my BEST Friend on the council. I have learned so much from our friendship and I am so proud of the amazing leader you are. I also cannot wait to see you lead your band program one day and inspire students in the same way you inspire me.

To the NED Governors, thank you for your constant reassurance to the council. Thank you for answering all of my random facebook messages and emails at midnight. I really look up to y’all

34 | 2019 Kappa Kappa Psi Northeast District Convention Minutes – University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, MA

and see the dedication that you put into the District. I am so happy to have had a part in serving the district with such great role models.

But most importantly, thank you, Brothers of the Northeast District. I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to serve our district as the Secretary/Treasurer. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel and meet chapters and brothers. The best part of this is interacting with all of you. Thank you for making this position so special. Always keep striving for the highest.

Appendix 7: Jurisdiction Committee Final Report 2019 NED Jurisdiction Committee Report

Brothers of the Northeast District, First, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to you all and to the District Council for allowing me this opportunity and privilege to serve as Parliamentarian and Jurisdiction Chair during this year’s Convention, particularly JT, who has been a great help in discussion during our committee meetings. I would like to also thank the incredible members of the committee, who worked very efficiently and in great detail to update and propose amendments to the Constitution brought to us by the Council. On behalf of myself and the entire Jurisdiction Committee, we would like to thank Jack Lee for advising the committee and providing excellent and well needed advice.

The 2019 Jurisdiction Chair was charged with the following: - Correspond with the Secretary/Treasurer, before COnvention if possible, to see what the Council and Governors want to be amended to the Constitution. The 2019 Jurisdiction Committee was charged with the following: - Review the District Operations Guide as submitted by the District Council, making note of suggestions in this committee’s report. - Amend the Constitution as recommended by the Council. - Review 1.7.08 of the Constitution to consider allowing unofficial transcripts at the discretion of the Governors for Officer Candidates.

The 2019 Jurisdiction Chair charges the 2020 Jurisdiction Chair with the following: - Be in contact with the District Council upon appointment to discuss potential amendments to the Constitution.

The 2019 Jurisdiction Committee charges the 2020 Jurisdiction Committee with the following:

36 | 2019 Kappa Kappa Psi Northeast District Convention Minutes – University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, MA

- Review the District Operations Guide upon completion, and make notes and suggestions for later reference. - Continue to review and amend the Constitution based off of the recommendations made by the District Council. - Reflect on the now potential amendments and additions of positions, specifically the duties of each officer and how they align.

Our Jurisdiction Committee met and discussed several amendments to the District Constitution, both presented by the Council and by members of the committee. Some of the smaller amendments that are proposed are adding missing awards in article 1.7.05.e, as well as adjustments to grammar and syntax for clarity and legibility. On top of this, it was proposed by the council that the position of Historian Alumni Liaison be dissolved, the current Vice President position now be known as the Vice President for Membership, and a new office, Vice President for Programs, be created. These changes to officer duties would take effect for the 2020 term, not the upcoming 2019 term, so as to ensure Brothers currently applying are not caught off guard and can focus on the duties currently listed in the Constitution prior to this report. Because of this, several amendments have been proposed to rearrange the duties of officers. After further discussion with the committee, we saw it fit to group certain amendments that are relevant to one another together, but it is our recommendation that we do not move all amendments as a block, as there are many important matters within these potential amendments and positions being dissolved and created. These groupings will be discussed following this report.

Appendix 8: Nominations Committee Final Report Brothers of the Northeast District:

It is a great privilege to be able to present the Nominations Committee Report for the Northeast District Convention of 2019. Serving as this committee chair has afforded me the exceptional opportunity of helping to influence the future of the Northeast District of Kappa Kappa Psi.

Over the past day and a half the Nominations Committee has spent several hours of careful consideration and deliberation, taking care to produce a thoughtful and effective nomination process. We began by confirming candidate eligibility, and subsequently scheduled interviews for yesterday afternoon. Prior to conducting interviews, the Committee spent the morning block utilizing tools from Harvard, the Kappa Kappa Psi Midwest District, and the current Northeast District Council to build thoughtful and critical interview questions. I asked each officer three questions: What characteristics are essential to your position, what challenges does your position face, and where do you see growth in your position and the council as a whole? Their thoughtful

responses provided the Committee with additional valuable insight as to what the Northeast District might best benefit from. During the interviews, each delegate participated in asking questions in regards to the district, their specific role on the council, and the details in their platform. In our final meeting, we outlined the strengths each candidate could bring to the council.

This year’s Nominations Committee had our work cut out for us. We had a total of 9 eligible candidates, which is incredible. Thank you to every Brother who submitted an application packet for this term- it takes a truly outstanding individual and leadership efforts to put yourself out there.

After thoughtful consideration, the 2019 Nominations Committee presents the following slate for the 2019-2020 Northeast District Council:

For President, we recommend Ema Alexander. Ema had great success as sec/treas, and has shown growth in leadership over the past year. She understands what the council can work on going into the next year. In addition, she has seen the process of working with host chapters, and knows how to create a successful system. We believe that Ema is a humble and approachable leader, and would be an excellent face for our district at National Convention.

For Vice President, we recommend Michael Coppola. His platform contained ambitious goals with detailed and concrete plans to accomplish his vision. Bringing back the publication in an accessible format that our chapters will engage with demonstrates his capabilities to adapt to current platforms and needs of the district.

For Secretary/Treasurer, we recommend Melissa Bannon. Melissa provided a specific list of things she can achieve. As a Colonist of Nu Omicron, she has been involved in both the chapter and district level since. Her Fundraising history distinguished her, as she has a unique fundraising perspective of raising money both for the fraternity and a philanthropy. She has been able to adapt fundraisers to her chapter needs, and can provide the same kind of advice to other chapters.

For Member at Large, we recommend Evan Choy. Evan has a high level of self awareness and introspection, a quality essential in leadership growth. Despite his chapter not having a sister chapter, he has shown initiative to seek out joint relations by contacting the current MAL and understand the commitments. He has demonstrated his passion for connecting and understanding the chapters across the district, and would be excel in providing a voice for

chapters across the district.

For Historian Alumni Liaison, we recommend Jordan Barnes. Jordan’s strong background in alumni relations and as a history major from Iota Xi would be a wonderful, valued perspective to share across the district. Apart from the duties, he would be a much needed voice from the HBCU chapters in our district.

The 2019 Nominations Committee charges the following: I. Engage with the 2019-2020 District Council prior to convention, inquiring about their overall experiences. From the Council’s responses, a document should be created to provide a reference for valuable insight, which this year helped us highlight key aspects of each position. II. Examine all application packets prior to convention. Each committee member should be assigned to a specific candidate and generate two potential interview questions based on their packets. This will save time when formulating interview questions in meetings. III. Confirm eligibility for candidacy via the hard-copy packets and transcripts. The committee should continue to utilize the electronic application packets as made available by the 2019-2020 District Council. IV. Outline goals for all scheduled meeting times, giving each goal an assigned time slot to aid in meeting efficiency. V. Structure interviews that allow for a supportive and conversational environment for the candidates, and that allow them to display to the Committee who they are as a Brother, leader, and person. Construct questions that ask the candidates to draw from experiences and that challenge their applications of the ideals of the Fraternity. VI. Utilize a time measurement tool during conversations about candidates to keep conversations on track and to keep from becoming circular. In addition, make sure every conversation has an end goal. I would like to conclude this report with my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Northeast District in this capacity. Thank you to Jackie, Patrick, Kenny, Aubrey, Dan, Robb, Jessie, and Adiel for your diligence and dedication; you all brought such valuable thoughts and perspectives to the table. Thank you to our committee advisor, Mike Napolitano, for helping us to focus our discussions and provide valuable insight to the district. Finally, thank you so much to the 2018-2019 Historian/Alumni Liaison, Eustaquio Dones. Your insight and logistical support was so helpful to me personally, and you were a big part of facilitating the committee. Truly, thank you to all of you. To the 2019-2020 Northeast District Council: I excitedly await your visionary endeavors and contributions to the Northeast District of Kappa Kappa Psi. As always, continue to Strive for the Highest.

Appendix 9: Vice President Final Report

Brothers of the N E D, I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve as your vice president this past year. This opportunity has given me the chance to meet so many brothers and I will cherish the connections that I have made. During my term as Vice President I was able to connect with every chapter Vice President or Vice President for Membership. I was able to collaborate with the host chapters Epsilon Nu and Delta Delta to provide music for Reading Band and Reading Jazz Band. I had the honor of selecting this year’s Student Conductor for Reading Band, Gerald Apugo. I also had the opportunity to organize precinct workshops given by you, the brothers of the N E D. I am looking forward to the growth of this position and the Membership Committee.

I charge the next Vice President with the following:

● Be a resource for all chapters in the District. Get to know people, you will learn so much. ● Continue to push the N E D ‘s musicianship by providing new and exciting pieces for music hour. ● Work to create an introduction to improvisation clinic to be held during music hour ● Distribute calls for precinct workshops and student conductor applications as soon as you possibly can. ● Be in contact with the host chapter and reading band/reading jazz band conductors early to discuss materials for music hour. ● Most of all have fun and learn as much as you can through this experience.

I charge the next District Council with the following:

● Get to know each other, you will make some amazing friends. ● Finish the District Operations Guide before the Fall 2019 semester. ● Don’t be afraid to bring something new to the District. You were elected because people believe in you and your ideas. ● Take any chance you can to meet up in person with each other. ● Attend as many SAC committees as you are able.

I would like to thank a few people for supporting me through this past year. Shortly after I was elected last year, I found out that with a few extra credits I was able to graduate a year early. Without the help and support of these people, I wouldn’t have made it through this past year. With that I would like to thank the Theta Gamma chapter and I would like to recognize a few brothers of my chapter specifically. I would like to thank Aubrey Crenshaw, Jessie Halapia, Emma Leathers, Ji Sue Lee, Chloe Sucevic, and most of all Emily Bond. I would like to thank the District Council. To Eustaquio thank you for being so passionate about everything you do, you are truly an inspiration to me and everyone around you. To Katie thank you for accompanying me on all of our travels and doing your very best to stay awake with me. To Ema thank you for always making sure that me and the rest of Council take a minute to breathe when we’re stressed whether it be from classwork, drama, or getting things ready for Convention. To Andrew thank you for making this experience one I will never forget. You were the driving force of this council and without you we wouldn’t have been able to have this amazing convention. To the governors thank you for not only answering all my questions, but also just being there for me anytime I needed anything.

James Horne, Theta Gamma Chapter, Kappa Kappa Psi Northeast District Vice President 2018-2019

Appendix 10: President Final Report Brothers of the Northeast District,

It has been my honor and privilege to serve as your Northeast District President over the past year. This time has been one of the most rewarding yet challenging experiences in my life thus far, but one that everyone should experience. The past month brought about a lot of stress with finalizing the details of convention; however, remembering the great conversations throughout the one-on-ones at the various precinct meetings reinvigorated me. The dedication and service shown by the chapters in our district reminded me of why I wanted to serve in this position in the first place. That dedication and service is also the reason I know the Northeast District will continue its excellence in the next biennium and beyond.

That being said, I charge you, the brothers of the Northeast District, with the following: Continue the great work that you provide for your chapter and this fraternity. Begin to create connections with chapters that are nearby. Invite them to Degrees, service projects, concerts, or just to come hangout for brotherhood and fellowship. Reach out to the District Council to help establish a line of communication. Communication is a two-way street, and the new council cannot establish a relationship with you all if you are not communicating with them as well.

53 | 2019 Kappa Kappa Psi Northeast District Convention Minutes – University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, MA

And finally get engaged on the District and National level to show not just the District, but the Nation the great things our chapters are doing.

To the 2019-2020 District Council: Don’t be afraid to reach out to others for help or ideas. You are not alone in your position and there are plenty of active brothers, alumni, and national representatives who are always more than willing to help. Develop a bond with your council and the sister council. You will be working with each other a lot and having a great friendship will make everything a lot smoother and less awkward.

To the 2019-2020 District President: Do not be afraid to ask your council to take on some of your responsibilities. They can provide a lot of support throughout the stressful periods of your term. Utilize the Governors, National Leadership, and your council to have a vision throughout the year. But most importantly, have fun! Make sure you take time to enjoy your position. You will be sitting in my spot before you know it!

Over the past year, I had the honor to travel to the National Leadership Conference in Stillwater Oklahoma. While there, I was able to bond with the other district presidents and national leadership while working on this convention. We also toured many of the amazing places that Stillwater has, and will be shown throughout NatCon this summer (and you should all go).

Additionally, I was able to travel to many different schools and meet so many amazing chapters and people. Through the precinct meetings, I hope you were able to take away a lot, as I know I learned so much from your chapters.

This convention would not be possible without the help and support of so many people. I want to take this time to recognize those people.

To the workshop presenters, committee chairs, and committee advisors: Thank you for serving the district in this capacity. Without your time, leadership, and dedication, we would be forced to awkwardly sit in a room together for two days with nothing to do.

To the Theta Beta chapter: thank you for bringing my clothes!

To the Epsilon Nu chapter: thank you for all of the hard work you have put into this convention. I know it has probably also been stressful for you, but you have pulled it off!

To the Nu Gamma Chapter: thank you for your continued support throughout this. You guys have been doing some amazing things, and I am super proud of you all. I am very excited to see how you will continue to strive for the highest and succeed.

To Katie Shirley: Thank you for all of your support throughout my entire college career. You have pushed me to be the best that I can be, and I appreciate you so much. Thank you for proofreading some of my emails, district officer packet material, and everything else you have done for me. But most importantly, thank you for being here today and being my biggest fan.

To the Sister council and Councilors: Even though you aren’t here to hear this, thank you for being such great people and an amazing group to work with.

54 | 2019 Kappa Kappa Psi Northeast District Convention Minutes – University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, MA

To my district Council: Thank you all for everything you have done this year. There are no other people that I would want to share this experience with.

JT: Thanks for being NEDForce 1 and driving me to Northern and Southern Precicnts. Thanks for all of the hard work you put in for Reading and Jazz Band and the precinct workshops. You have been a great friend, and a pleasure to work with.

Ema: Thank you for always making sure I am not forgetting anything (whether it be submitting a form or holding a meeting). You have shown such dedication to your position, and I am excited to see what the next year has in store for you.

Katie: Thank you for being my personal body guard, and letting me out of the back of JT’s car. You have brought some amazing ideas to your position, and came on board and truly excelled in what you have done.

Eustaquio: Thank you for picking me up from Boston and showing me the great Northeast. You have provided such great energy to our council. You have done a great job with you history fair this year and have such great ideas for furthering your position in the future.

To Mike, Marie, and Bill: Thank you for all that you have done for our council. You were able to have fun with us, while keeping us in line and making sure we got everything done. Your wisdom has helped shape me into a better leader, and I appreciate everything you have done for the district.

I want to end by thanking everyone for attending. You all have helped remind me this fraternity is so much bigger than one single chapter or one single experience. I want to reiterate just how amazing the things you do are, and you should all be proud of yourselves and your chapters for your continued dedication and service to college or university bands and this fraternity. Keep striving!
