ABSTRACT: English This thesis attempts to provide a brief overview of major pieces of the English-language scholarship concerning the Norse berserker. It tries to demonstrate consistent flaws in scholarly treatment and the hollow nature of many major theories and attitudes. In doing so, I hope to demonstrate the importance of brining in outside scholarship on the berserker, specifically the work of Jonathan Shay, who’s book Achilles in Vietnam, demonstrated a strong continuity of experience between Achilles in Homer’s Iliad, and the experiences of American soldiers in the Vietnam War. I believe his work can be equally applied to the Norse berserker, and hope to introduce Shay into the conversation. Anime has its own fan culture in the United States known as otaku, or the obsessive lifestyle surrounding manga and anime, which has resulted in American production companies creating their own “anime.” Japanese filmmakers do not regard anime simply as a cartoon, but instead realize it as genre of film, such as action or comedy. However, Japanese anime is not only dynamic and influential because of its storylines, characters, and themes, but also for its purposeful choices in music. Since the first anime Astro Boy and through films such as Akira, Japanese animation companies combine their history from the past century with modern or “westernized” music. Unlike cartoon films produced by Disney or Pixar, Japanese anime do not use music to mimic the actions on-screen; instead, music heightens and deepens the plot and emotions. This concept is practiced in live-action feature films, and although anime consists of hand-drawn and computer-generated cartoons, Japanese directors and animators create a “film” experience with their dramatic choice of music.

    Pramana Research Journal ISSN NO: 2249-2976 Influence of animated shows on children: A survey Parveen Saini1 Assistant Professor, University Institute of Media Studies, Chandigarh University [email protected], [email protected] Abstract With the increasing technology, the influx of animated shows with violent and sexual nature has been increasing day by day. The children are exposed to such violence and their parents may not be able to see the consequences instantly, but it does pose a great threat to the innocent minds at this concept formation stage. The prime factor here is for how long they are exposed and what kind of parental supervision do they get. In this study, a sample size of 100 from diverse demographics was taken and a survey with structured questionnaire with multiple choice questions was distributed to the respondents, who are the parents of children till the age of 13. It was f0ound that the children especially from the age group of 8-13 are regular viewers of several kinds of cartoons popular in both west and India. The negative effects caused from the long exposure of television could not be found in most of the children. As per the research sample, the parents keep a constant watch on their kids and thus, they have been successful in keeping the level of aggression in control.
