FROM THE INTIMATE ENCOUNTER TO EMBRACING THE WORLD The 8th world congress for psychotherapy, under the auspices of the World Council for Psychotherapy (WCP), is organized this year by the French Federation of Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis (FF2P) at the Maison de l’UNESCO in Paris, with the collaboration of the French League for Mental Health and the Françoise Minkowska Centrer.
This international event is regularly held throughout the world (South Africa in 2013, Australia in 2011). It brings together the leading experts of the various fields of Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis from all continents; previous editions have also shown that all other specialties of the humanities are present.
« Life and Love in the 21st Century: From the intimate encounter to embracing the world » is the theme to be developed during the 8th world congress for psychotherapy. You will find the argument immediately following this presentation.
The Maison de l’UNESCO was chosen as the hosting residence for the Congress because this great place of « intellectual and moral solidarity of mankind » is well in line with the themes of universalism and humanitarian benevolence that the organizers wished to promote.
The Congress will take place over 5 days with 30 plenary lectures, more than 200 oral presentations of 15 minutes each, more than 60 workshops, distributed over 8 halls and lecture theaters. Communication through posters will be presented in ongoing consultation by the participants. The scientific committee have selected and arranged the presentations according to their thematic relevance.
DE LA RENCONTRE INTIME À L’OUVERTURE AU MONDE Le 8e congrès mondial de psychothérapie, sous l’égide du World Council for Psychotherapy (WCP), est organisé cette année par la Fédération Française de Psychothérapie et Psychanalyse (FF2P) à la Maison de l’UNESCO à Paris, avec la collaboration de la Ligue Française pour la Santé Mentale (LFSM) et du Centre Françoise Minkowska.
Cette manifestation internationale se déroule régulièrement dans le monde entier (Afrique du Sud en 2013, Australie en 2011) et réunit les plus grands spécialistes des différents courants de la Psychothérapie et de la Psychanalyse de tous les continents ; les éditions précédentes ont montré également que toutes les autres spécialités des sciences humaines sont présentes.
« Vie et Amour au 21e siècle, de la rencontre intime à l’ouverture au monde », est le thème retenu pour être développé lors de ce 8e congrès mondial de la psychothérapie. L’argumentaire suit cette présentation.
La Maison de l’UNESCO a été choisie comme résidence pour ce Congrès car ce haut lieu de « la solidarité intellectuelle et morale de l’humanité » est bien en adéquation avec les thèmes d’universalisme et de bienveillance humanitaire que ses organisateurs ont souhaité promouvoir.
Le Congrès se déroulera sur 5 jours avec 30 conférences plénières, plus de 200 présentations orales de 15 minutes, plus de 60 ateliers, répartis dans 8 grandes salles et amphithéâtres. Des communications par posters seront présentées en consultation permanente par les congressistes. Le comité scientifique s’est chargé de choisir et d’agencer les présentations selon leur pertinence thématique.

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the 8th world congress for psychotherapy that will be held in Paris, France from the 24th to the 28th of July 2017, at the Maison de l’UNESCO.
This world congress of the World Council for Psychotherapy, that the French Federation of Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis and its partners, the French League of Mental Health (LFSM) and the Minkowska Center, have the great honor of organizing, is conceived within the exceptional framework of this century of globalization. This global era questions our psychotherapeutic practices, their theoretical foundations and is also the meeting point between psychotherapy and different anthropological, sociological, epistemological, and ethical representations.
Sharing and exchanging both our hopes and our practices is the goal of this Congress. It will also aim to lay the foundations for a common ground for all future practices of listening to psychic suffering, psychological distress and psychiatric disorders of individuals.
The World Council for Psychotherapy wants to take into account the rich history of the great changes that have affected mankind in his or her relation to the world, so that we may engage in a global debate, above and beyond our respective national practices.
The aims of this Congress focus on several paradigmatic axes: - Life must remain stronger than destructive violence - Love is always the foundation of our humanity and our interpersonal, social, and familial relations - The fight against psychological distress and psychiatric illness is both a humane and ethical duty - The exceptional meeting of many specialists in psychotherapy, from five continents is a humanistic necessity in order to include all the different types of psychotherapy from all the modalities, so that there may be a rich exchange of experience and ideas.
Psychotherapy is recognized as an inevitable and effective way to treat mental disorders and alleviate the mental suffering of patients. However, it is also an important determinant for the evolution of the human being and the human way of thinking.
Psychotherapy also contributes to the creation of social connection by releasing the individual from the fear of the other and also fear of him or herself.
Affirming our freedom, our identity, our values and the professionalism of our profession is also a powerful civic and political act in the current global context.

C’est une grande joie de vous inviter au 8e congrès mondial de psychothérapie qui se tiendra à Paris du 24 au 28 juillet 2017 à la Maison de l’UNESCO.
Ce congrès mondial du World Council for Psychotherapy, que la Fédération Française de Psychothérapie et Psychanalyse et ses partenaires, La Ligue de la Santé Mentale et le Centre Françoise Minkowska, ont le grand honneur d’organiser s’inscrit dans le cadre exceptionnel de ce siècle de mondialisation qui interpelle les pratiques psychothérapeutiques, leurs fondements théoriques et où la rencontre des psychothérapies avec les représentations anthropologiques, épistémologiques, éthiques et culturelles est en marche.

Le WCP veut prendre date avec l’histoire des grands changements qui affectent l’humain dans son rapport au monde pour engager un débat mondial, au delà de nos pratiques nationales respectives.
L’enjeu de ce Congrès se déclinera autour de plusieurs axes paradigmatiques : - La vie doit rester plus forte que la violence destructrice - L’amour est toujours le socle de notre humanité et du lien interpersonnel, familial et social. - La lutte contre la détresse psychique et des maladies psychiatriques est un devoir humain et éthique - La rencontre exceptionnelle de très nombreux spécialistes de la psychothérapie venus des cinq continents est une nécessité humaniste pour aborder toutes les formes de psychothérapies, de tous les courants pour échanger, partager leurs expériences, leurs idées.
La psychothérapie est reconnue comme un moyen inéluctable et efficace pour traiter les troubles psychiques, alléger les souffrances des patients, mais elle est aussi un déterminant important pour l’évolution de l’être humain et de sa pensée.
La psychothérapie est source de lien social en libérant chacun de la peur de l’autre et aussi de la peur de lui-même.
Affirmer notre liberté, notre identité, nos valeurs et le professionnalisme du métier est aussi un acte citoyen et politique fort dans le contexte mondial actuel.

The World Council for Psychotherapy Conseil Mondial de Psychothérapie (WCP)
NGO since May 2003, the WCP aims to:
- promote psychotherapy in all continents of the world (in accordance with the Strasbourg Declaration) - guarantee the best practice conditions for psychotherapy patients (charter of the WCP) - cooperate with national and international organizations to be aware of and evaluate conflicts and maintain peace - create an International Centre for information on psychotherapy - access to advisory status as an NGO of the UN - establish guidelines that are both ethical and international - support all efforts to achieve and maintain human rights - create task forces on specific topics - promote the exchange of training programs worldwide - support its members around issues that affect psychotherapy
It is with this philosophy that every three years a world congress is organized:
- the last was held in South Africa in Durban where 42 countries were represented - the 6th and 5th world congresses were respectively held in Australia and China and they gathered nearly 1,000 individuals - the 4th was held in Argentina and the first three, which were held in Austria in Vienna have each welcomed 3000 to 4000 people.

- le dernier s’est tenu en Afrique du Sud à Durban où 42 pays ont été représentés - les 6e et 5e respectivement tenus en Australie et en Chine ont réuni près de 1000 personnes - le 4e en Argentine ainsi que les 3 premiers qui se sont tenus en Autriche à Vienne ont réuni chacun de 3000 à 4000 personnes.

6 The French Federation of Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis Fédération Française de Psychothérapie et Psychanalyse (FF2P)
The FF2P was created in May 1995 to bring together the different psychotherapeutic and psychoanalytic fields in France.
It includes nearly 60 organizations - training organizations and associations - representing twenty psychotherapeutic methods grouped into five main categories: psychoanalytic, humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, systemic and integrative.
The FF2P’s mission is not only to promote psychotherapy as a specific discipline, but also to contribute to public information and protection of users. This ethical and deontological imperative is at the heart of the action of the FF2P and all its audience. All associations of the categories mentioned above and training organizations approved by the FF2P meet these criteria.
The FF2P is a member of both the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP) which collects 120,000 practitioners in 41 countries and the World Council of Psychotherapy (WCP).
The FF2P is the only organization in France authorized to issue the European Certificate of Psychotherapy (CEP) *.
*The CEP, established by the EAP in 1997, aims to establish strict criteria for the practice of psychotherapy and to establish a high level of training.
La FF2P a été créée en mai 1995 pour regrouper les différents courants psychothérapeutiques et psychanalytiques en France.
Elle regroupe près de 60 organismes - organismes de formation et associations - représentant une vingtaine de méthodes psychothérapeutiques regroupées en cinq principaux courants : psychanalytique, humaniste, cognitivo-comportemental, systémique et intégratif.
La FF2P a comme mission non seulement de promouvoir la psychothérapie comme discipline spécifique, mais aussi de contribuer à l’information du public et à la protection des usagers. Cette exigence éthique et déontologique est au cœur de l’action de la FF2P et de toutes ses instances. Toutes les associations de méthode, les organismes de formation agréés par la FF2P répondent à ces critères.
La FF2P est membre de l’Association Européenne de Psychothérapie (EAP) regroupant 120 000 praticiens dans 41 pays et du Conseil Mondial de psychothérapie (WCP).

The French League for Mental Health La Ligue française pour la Santé Mentale (LFSM)
A pioneer in many fields, the French League for Mental Hygiene, recognized as having public interest in 1922, became the French League for Mental Health in 1996.
Since its founding in 1921 it has been a crossroads of ideas and research. In addition to its own activities, studies, research, conferences, publication of a magazine, a documentation center as well as training for social and paramedical personnel, and the creation of specialized departments and associations with the aim of preventing psychological problems, it has also dedicated itself to: - Promoting reflection on the influence of the environment on the psychological state of individuals - Facilitating the understanding of situations and interactions in a confrontational and increasingly complex society - Providing assistance to psychologically fragile individuals to avoid shifting to larger problems.

« Man is made to seek the human »
This quote by Eugene Minkowski, founder of the association originally dedicated to his wife Françoise Minkowska, summarizes better than anything else, the life and work of the author. A well-recognized physician and philosopher, he spent his whole life trying to better understand the individual in his uniqueness and in his entirety to better treat him. In continuation of his work and thought, the association is committed to caring, teaching, training and exchanging knowledge.
It is in this spirit that the Françoise Minkowska Center was born in 1962. This state establishment, created to ensure the reception of all migrants and refugees in need of mental health care, has not deviated from that goal in over fifty years of activity and is now recognized both nationally and internationally.
The Françoise Minkowska Center provides transcultural psychiatric consultations centered on the person. It introduced the notion of culturel competency in France.

Cette citation d’Eugène Minkowski, fondateur de l’association dédiée à l’origine à sa femme Françoise Minkowska, résume mieux que tout autre la vie et l’œuvre de son auteur. Médecin et philosophe reconnu, il chercha tout au long de sa vie à mieux appréhender l’individu dans sa singularité et sa globalité pour mieux le soigner. Dans la continuité de son œuvre et de sa pensée, l’association s’est donné pour mission de soigner, former, transmettre et informer.
C’est dans cet esprit que le centre Françoise Minkowska vit le jour en 1962. Cet établissement de droit commun, créé pour assurer l’accueil de tout migrant et réfugié ayant besoin de soins en santé mentale, n’a pas dévié de cet objectif en plus de cinquante ans d’activité et est à présent reconnu tant au plan national qu’international.
Le Centre Françoise Minkowska assure des consultations de psychiatrie transculturelle centrée sur la personne. Il a introduit en France la notion de compétence culturelle.

Here, in Paris, under the patronage of Unesco, we could not find a better place or better time to question the major individual and collective challenges of our contemporary world, be they related to economic and cultural globalization, or to the ecological and climatic consequences of current crises, among other pitfalls of our century. Is it possible that the scale of the psychological, moral and existential suffering, of the individual and collective malaise encountered in our practice, and which mental health epidemiologists are measuring, is rooted in this questioning? In order to address what emerges from these three words “Peace, Empathy and Psychotherapy,” we asked various participants to comment on them through an idea, a work of art, an object, a literary, musical, photographic or cinematographic reference, or anything that could suggest an opening or hope (if you feel any) for the future of generations to come. This may be a delicate exercise to be accomplished within fifteen minutes, but we remain persuaded that rising to the challenge will stimulate debate with the audience.
