This international event is regularly held throughout the world (South Africa in 2013, Australia in 2011). It brings together the leading experts of the various fields of Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis from all continents; previous editions have also shown that all other specialties of the humanities are present. « Life and Love in the 21st Century: From the intimate encounter to embracing the world » is the theme to be developed during the 8th world congress for psychotherapy. You will find the argument immediately following this presentation. The Maison de l’UNESCO was chosen as the hosting residence for the Congress because this great place of « intellectual and moral solidarity of mankind » is well in line with the themes of universalism and humanitarian benevolence that the organizers wished to promote. The Congress will take place over 5 days with 30 plenary lectures, more than 200 oral presentations of 15 minutes each, more than 60 workshops, distributed over 8 halls and lecture theaters. Communication through posters will be presented in ongoing consultation by the participants. The scientific committee have selected and arranged the presentations according to their thematic relevance. DE LA RENCONTRE INTIME À L’OUVERTURE AU MONDE Le 8e congrès mondial de psychothérapie, sous l’égide du World Council for Psychotherapy (WCP), est organisé cette année par la Fédération Française de Psychothérapie et Psychanalyse (FF2P) à la Maison de l’UNESCO à Paris, avec la collaboration de la Ligue Française pour la Santé Mentale (LFSM) et du Centre Françoise Minkowska. Cette manifestation internationale se déroule régulièrement dans le monde entier (Afrique du Sud en 2013, Australie en 2011) et réunit les plus grands spécialistes des différents courants de la Psychothérapie et de la Psychanalyse de tous les continents ; les éditions précédentes ont montré également que toutes les autres spécialités des sciences humaines sont présentes. « Vie et Amour au 21e siècle, de la rencontre intime à l’ouverture au monde », est le thème retenu pour être développé lors de ce 8e congrès mondial de la psychothérapie. L’argumentaire suit cette présentation. La Maison de l’UNESCO a été choisie comme résidence pour ce Congrès car ce haut lieu de « la solidarité intellectuelle et morale de l’humanité » est bien en adéquation avec les thèmes d’universalisme et de bienveillance humanitaire que ses organisateurs ont souhaité promouvoir. Le Congrès se déroulera sur 5 jours avec 30 conférences plénières, plus de 200 présentations orales de 15 minutes, plus de 60 ateliers, répartis dans 8 grandes salles et amphithéâtres. Des communications par posters seront présentées en consultation permanente par les congressistes. It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the 8th world congress for psychotherapy that will be held in Paris, France from the 24th to the 28th of July 2017, at the Maison de l’UNESCO. This world congress of the World Council for Psychotherapy, that the French Federation of Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis and its partners, the French League of Mental Health (LFSM) and the Minkowska Center, have the great honor of organizing, is conceived within the exceptional framework of this century of globalization. This global era questions our psychotherapeutic practices, their theoretical foundations and is also the meeting point between psychotherapy and different anthropological, sociological, epistemological, and ethical representations. Sharing and exchanging both our hopes and our practices is the goal of this Congress. It will also aim to lay the foundations for a common ground for all future practices of listening to psychic suffering, psychological distress and psychiatric disorders of individuals. The World Council for Psychotherapy wants to take into account the rich history of the great changes that have affected mankind in his or her relation to the world, so that we may engage in a global debate, above and beyond our respective national practices. The aims of this Congress focus on several paradigmatic axes: - Life must remain stronger than destructive violence - Love is always the foundation of our humanity and our interpersonal, social, and familial relations - The fight against psychological distress and psychiatric illness is both a humane and ethical duty - The exceptional meeting of many specialists in psychotherapy, from five continents is a humanistic necessity in order to include all the different types of psychotherapy from all the modalities, so that there may be a rich exchange of experience and ideas. Psychotherapy is recognized as an inevitable and effective way to treat mental disorders and alleviate the mental suffering of patients. However, it is also an important determinant for the evolution of the human being and the human way of thinking. Psychotherapy also contributes to the creation of social connection by releasing the individual from the fear of the other and also fear of him or herself. Affirming our freedom, our identity, our values and the professionalism of our profession is also a powerful civic and political act in the current global context. We are counting on your presence. Cornell University 2011 The dissertation revisits the West German literary scene of the 1960s and 1970s to investigate how two of its Jewish participants, Jean Améry and Wolfgang Hildesheimer, sought to promote ethical responses to the Holocaust. The study incorporates literary analysis and socio-political reflections on the ethics of public life. First, it is an analysis of the relationship between judicial confrontation of the German criminal past, the silence in the wider German cultural sphere in the wake of this confrontation, and the two writers’ efforts to expose and address this ethical disconnect (chapter I). Second, it draws attention to two very different modes of reactive affect, ressentiment and melancholia. Through readings of Hildesheimer’s novels Tynset (1965) and Masante (1973) in chapters II and III, on the one hand, and Améry’s essay “Ressentiments” (1966) and the essay-novel Lefeu oder Der Abbruch (1974) in chapters IV and V, on the other, the dissertation analyzes these two modes. Hildesheimer employed a register of ethical writing that articulated the interconnected processes of mourning and melancholia, but unlike recent scholarship that focuses on these categories and valorizes melancholia as source of productive socio-political action, Hildesheimer did not prescribe them as exemplary modes of affective reparation.

Synthesizing and building on recent work by anthropologists, sociologists and cultural theorists it explores the current debate over French identity--a debate that has to a considerable extent revolved around the impact of recent postwar immigration to France and the "integration" of immigrants on the cultural level, and of which a recent symptom has been the Sarkozy government's launch of a public national debate about "l'identité nationale" (national identity). Overall, my project focuses on the intermingling of the cultural and the political in cultural representations of immigrants and their descendants. Specifically, I consider the highly charged terrain of the representation of sexuality. In the discourse on laïcité (secularism) and integration, gender norms and tolerance of homosexuality have emerged as key components and are now often employed to highlight immigrants' "un-French" attitudes. I argue that, as French and immigrant identities have been called into question, sexuality has constituted a favored prism through which to establish the existence of difference. Through the study of cultural representations of immigration, I will explain how the potential of immigrants and their descendants to assimilate is often judged according to the "fitness" of their attitudes about sexuality.
