Library Connection @ Adams Square The Library’s newest branch was recently honored with two awards. The Pasadena & Foothill American Institute of Architects recognized the Library and Osborn Architects for the interior design of the renovated building. The Huntington Library Art Gallery rehabilitation and the Pasadena City Hall Seismic Upgrade also received Honors Awards. In addition, a Case Study of the Adams Square site in Library Journal’s Libraries By Design special issue praised the dynamic, adaptable interior space that makes the most of the building’s unique features. On a crisp autumn day in November, 2007, dozens of photographers packed their equipment and took up a unique challenge: to “capture” the essence of the city of Glendale, California in a single day. Photographers of all stripes —professionals, students and amateurs—combed every corner of Glendale looking for just the right subject matter to represent the many facets of this historic, vibrant and diverse city. The Library Connection @ Adams Square recently opened providing library service to a section of the City that had been underserved in the past. Although relatively small as far as branch libraries go, it maximizes the space available in a very functional and attractive manner. It is well worth your time to drop by 1100 E. Chevy Chase Drive to see this newest jewel in the City’s library system. As part of our on-going efforts to bring more visibility Unity Fest, 2008 to our organization, we seek out opportunities to tell people about the Friends. In July, we co-hosted a table The Friends of the Library and at the City’s Cruise Night with Library staff. We helped to draw attention to the annual Children’s Summer Reading the Glendale City Employees Program which is largely funded by the Friends. In June I was appointed to the position of Director of Libraries and I am thrilled to be able to continue my partnership with the Friends of the Glendale Public Library.
