Purists to this day often still regard them as an unnecessary extra expense and with almost every postal administration producing them, it is difficult not to agree about the cost factor. They are, by definition, smaller in physical scale than a Souvenir Sheet. The term Souvenir Sheet (SS) has been used here to describe philatelic items containing sheetlets of the same stamp design in a format smaller than a traditional counter sheet (say, up to 25 stamps), but only where there is some sort of decoration or other value-adding element. These days, that would include the larger decorative items such as the personal- ised sheets that many Post Offices now issue that usually take the form of a label depicting an image supplied by the customer alongside the stamp. Also included are sheets with, say, four to six repeated multiple designs usually in blocks or strips. This section only includes MS and SS sold by the official national postal service and not those by any other issuer, or in any other stamp format, many of which may be found listed elsewhere in this handbook. Stamps in this section are NOT repeated in Part A (Stamps) unless an identical stamp was included in both a MS or SS AND a traditional counter sheet. Rhetorics of Belonging Postcolonialism across the Disciplines 14 Bernard, Rhetorics of Belonging.indd 1 09/09/2013 11:17:03 Postcolonialism across the Disciplines Series Editors Graham Huggan, University of Leeds Andrew Thompson, University of Exeter Postcolonialism across the Disciplines showcases alternative directions for postcolonial studies. It is in part an attempt to counteract the dominance in colonial and postcolonial studies of one particular discipline – English literary/ cultural studies – and to make the case for a combination of disciplinary knowledges as the basis for contemporary postcolonial critique. Edited by leading scholars, the series aims to be a seminal contribution to the field, spanning the traditional range of disciplines represented in postcolonial studies but also those less acknowledged. It will also embrace new critical paradigms and examine the relationship between the transnational/cultural, the global and the postcolonial.

Association of Jewish Libraries REVIEWS February/March 2015 Volume V, No. 1 Reviews of Nonfiction Titles for Adults EDITED BY DANIEL SCHEIDE AND REBECCA JEFFERSON Adler, Elchanan. Yerach Tov: Birkat HaChodesh in Jewish Law and Liturgy. NY: OU Press, 2014. 115 pp. $11.85. (9781879016552). This translation of Yerah Tov succinctly cites a wide range of sources on Birkat ha-Hodesh, the Blessing of the New Month in the Shabbat morning service. Adler examines its history, customs, and laws from early sidurim (Rav Amram) to halakhic works: Talmudim, Codes (Tur, Mishneh Torah, Shulhan Arukh), Responsa, and liturgical commentaries. This work contains a line by line explanation of the words of this prayer, discusses its sources, and discusses its place in the liturgy. The book addresses questions such as: What is the source of the prayer for the new month? What connection does this practice today share with the sanctification of the new moon in antiquity? Why is the prayer omitted before Tishrei? What is the origin of the words in the prayer “haverim kol Yisra’el” (all Jews are brethren)? How do the requests for the reinstitution of Temple and of semikhah (rabbinical ordination) have roots in ancient prayer? What is the eschatological significance of Kidush ha-Hodesh? Moshe Schapiro helped compose the excellent 17-page historical bibliography of authors and sources cited in the work. This book is accessible to the layman and scholar alike, and is recommended for all libraries. David B Levy, Touro College, NY CONTENTS Reviews of Nonfiction Titles for Adults p. 1 God & Prayer p.
