Parkmuseerne – a new museum district in Copenhagen Official opening 18 March at 10.30 a.m at Statens Museum for Kunst. Members of the press are welcome. One million museumgoers. Three million park visitors. Parkmuseerne is a new museum district in Copenhagen created through the collaboration of the David Collection, the Filmhouse, the Hirschsprung Collection, Rosenborg Castle, the National History Museum of Denmark, and Statens Museum for Kunst (the National Gallery of Denmark). The objective is clear: to make Parkmuseerne a nationally and internationally acclaimed museum district. Parkmuseerne will be officially opened on 18 March. The days that follow will see the opening of six co-ordinated exhibitions sharing a common theme: Flowers. The subject will be considered from six widely different angles. Internationally acclaimed museum district ”With a total of one million visitors at the six museums and a total of three million visits to the parks each year, the area is excellently suited to becoming a unique museum district where visitors can experience the best from the realms of art and nature. With this collaborative project we wish to create a museum district to match those of other cities such as Berlin and Vienna,” says Karsten Ohrt, chairman of Parkmuseerne and director of Statens Museum for Kunst. Access to Parkmuseerne is easy. All the museums are within walking distance from each other, and they are set in parklands that span the King’s Gardens, the Botanical Garden, and the Østre Anlæg park. The official opening marks the onset of a programme of new, joint activities and experiences that reinvent how the museums reach out to their audiences. -
