Vassula Ryden
NOVEMBER 25/DECEMBER 8/12, 2012 Vassula Ryden: Problems with Rome, Bishops worldwide and her own Orthodox Church, but welcome in India Vassula Ryden is a controversial Greek-Orthodox "seer" who claims to receive written messages from God. The intention of this alert is to provide reliable information to the Bishops, heads of retreat centers, lay leaders in ministry, and the Catholic laity at large in the Indian Church about the status of acceptance by the Catholic and Orthodox Churches of the Greek Orthodox "seer" named Vassula Ryden and her "messages". This alert will gradually be developed into a more-detailed report* which can be viewed under the same title at the "REPORTS" section of this ministry’s web site. Interested readers are requested to check our web site periodically for updates and new articles. *This report was updated on December 8, 2012. See pages 27 ff. Also see VASSULA RYDEN-TESTIMONIES at http://ephesians-511.net/docs/VASSULA_RYDEN_TESTIMONIES.doc. That file in the "CATHOLIC ISSUES" section of our web site contains four testimonies reproduced from www.infovassula.ch, a critical website on Vassula Ryden and her "True Life in God" messages. The www.infovassula.ch website which was run by a Switzerland-based Catholic apologist Maria Laura Pio had to be shut down because of legal proceedings initiated against her in a civil court in Belgium in 2011 by the "True Life in God" [TLIG]"seer" Vassula Ryden and her team of legal experts. More of that later. The writing and publishing of this alert is immediately necessitated by the receipt of information concerning the imminent visit of Vassula Ryden to various Catholic locations in India* on the back of a trip by her to Paris and Strasbourg in France which however has elicited strong warnings from six French bishops**. -

1 ADMINISTRATOR'S MESSAGE Dear Fathers, Brothers and Sisters, Greetings from the Diocese of Vellore! It gives me joy and happiness to speak to you through our diocesan News Letter for the first time after becoming the Administrator of our diocese. As you know it was a saddening and shocking incident that our beloved bishop Most Rev. Dr. P. Soundararaju SDB., passed away on 21 March 2020. Due to the Covid -19 everything was locked down and we were not able to have a solemn funeral for him. In spite of that we were able to do the best homage to him. When everything comes to normalcy we will have solemn memorial mass for him. I thank the Almighty for His blessings and guidance and of course all the Council members, fathers, brothers, religious and people for their wonderful cooperation and kind understanding. In a special way my heartfelt thanks to Madha TV, the Chairman bishop Most Rev. Dr. Singarayan, the director Rev. Fr. David Arockiam and the team for their generous heart to telecast the whole funeral ceremony on live. I take this opportunity to thank all those who have expressed their heartfelt condolences and prayers to the demise of our bishop. First and foremost I would like to thank His Holiness Pope Francis for his deepest sentiments of hearty condolences and his message which is in the obituary and Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State who has sent the message. In the second place our sincere thanks to Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, Prefect and Archbishop Protase 2 Rugambwa, Secretary, the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. -

The Role of Syriac in India Before the Portuguese Period
ARAM, 21 (2009) 289-321. doi: 10.2143/ARAM.21.0.2047097 CLASSICAL SYRIAC AS A MODERN LINGUA FRANCA IN SOUTH INDIA BETWEEN 1600 AND 20061 Dr. ISTVÁN PERCZEL (University of Tübingen & Central European University, Budapest) I. INTRODUCTION: THE ROLE OF SYRIAC IN INDIA BEFORE THE PORTUGUESE PERIOD In South India there lives one of the most ancient Christian communities of the world. According to its own founding traditions it consists of two ele- ments: a majority descending from autochthonous Indian populations, among whom the first members were converted – according to tradition – by the Apostle Saint Thomas, and a minority descending from Syrian colonists who – once again according to the local tradition – arrived in India through the sea routes from Persia using the monsoon winds. These two communities are called the Northists (Vadakkumbhagar), that is, the autochthonous Indians, and 1 In whatever new material is presented in this study, the author has no personal merit. This material is the fruit of the joint efforts of a team, which, recently, has founded an Indian Asso- ciation for the Preservation of the Saint Thomas Christian Heritage. Unfortunately, each and every one of those who are working in the folds of and for this Association cannot be remem- bered by name. To mention only a few among many, particular gratitude is due on the part of the author to the following: to Mar Aprem, Honorary President of the Association, to whom he owes all his knowledge on the Chaldean Syrian Church in Thrissur and its antecedents, as well as on its documents; to His Beatitude, Baselios Thomas I, the Catholicos of the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church of India, who gave him access to Syrian Orthodox collections and inscrip- tions and who graciously allowed their publication; to Cardinal Joseph Varkey Vittayatthil and Bishop Thomas Chakiath, who gave him access to the Syro-Malabar collections; to the Prior and the Librarian of Saint Joseph’s Monastery Mannanam, Frs. -
