Dear Parent/Carer,

In September 2018, your son will begin his GCSE History course. In his first year he will study Germany: Democracy and Dictatorship, 1890-45 and the Cold War, 1945-72. To further enrich our engaging Year 10 curriculum, we plan to take 40-44 of our Historians on a three day visit to Berlin from Monday 10th June – Wednesday 12th June 2019.

Our fully-guided itinerary is as follows:

Day 2 - we travel further afield, exploring in more detail aspects of Nazi control, terror and persecution, visiting Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, the Olympic Stadium and Wannsee House. Your son will develop his understanding of this most harrowing and emotive of subjects.

Our destinations include the site of the 1945 Potsdam Conference, Glienicke Bridge, the Allied Museum, The Berlin Wall Documentation Centre and Berlin Unterwelten.

We depart from school on Monday 10th June at 2.15am, flying from East Midlands Airport at 6.40am, returning to Bristol Airport at 22.50pm local time on Wednesday 12th June. We arrive back at school at approximately 12.30am on Thursday 13th June.

In order for the trip to take place, it must be self-financing, and so we invite you to make a contribution of £520.00 per pupil*, which includes:

• UK Airport transfers and return flights including all taxes. Cabin baggage only. • Accommodation based on hostel accommodation. • Breakfast, packed lunch and evening meals commencing with an evening meal on the first day and ending with a packed lunch on the last day. • The use of a coach and public transport tickets to cover all transfers and visits in Germany • All entrance fees.

Should you wish your son to participate on this trip, we ask for an expression of interest and a part payment of the deposit.

I would be grateful if you could return the deposit slip to the Finance Office and pay a partial deposit of £50.00 by Monday 16th July, at the latest. If you choose not to pay the first part of the deposit via the online facility, please include cash or a cheque with the consent form, in an envelope marked with your son’s name and form, and the name of the trip, Nazi Germany and Cold War Tour – Berlin.

The remaining part of the deposit (£100.00) will be due by 31th August 2018. Payment will need to be made via the online facility.

If there is insufficient interest to run the trip, all deposit payments will of course be refunded. Should interest exceed demand for places, names will be drawn names out of a hat.
