Apr. 20 at UC Davis* 2:30 PM • Last Time Out Apr. 21 at UC Davis* 2 PM UCSB put it all together in last week’s victory over Fresno State, receiving a breakout debut start from Apr. 22 at UC Davis* 1 PM Andrews and scoring a then-season-high seven runs. A Bakersfield College transfer, Andrews pounded the Apr. 27 UC Riverside* 3 PM strike zone en route to his first D1 win, throwing 57 of 79 pitches for strikes including first-pitch strikes to 20 of the 25 batters he faced. His only blemish was a solo homer in the seventh, his final inning of work. Apr. 29 UC Riverside* 1 PM May 1 at CSU Bakersfield 6 PM • WHIP It Good May 4 CSUN* 3 PM Thanks to his four-hit, no-walk outing, Andrews finds himself with the lowest WHIP (walks, hits per inning May 5 CSUN* 2 PM pitched) in the Big West at 0.50. He is also tied – with 69 other people – for the national lead in BB/9 (0.0) May 6 CSUN* 1 PM • In Control May 8 Pepperdine 3 PM To this point of the season, the UCSB pitching staff has issued just 18 walks. That is the fewest free passes May 11 at Long Beach State* 6 PM allowed through the first seven games of a season in the Checketts era. Last week, the Gauchos went two May 12 2 PM straight games (vs. Fresno St, vs. Mississippi St.) without walking a batter, a first in the Checketts era. The at Long Beach State* Gauchos have issued just six bases on balls in the last four games, just missing the program’s best four-game May 13 at Long Beach State* 1 PM stretch since 2012 (four: May 6-11, 2014 vs. CSU Bakersfield and CSUN). May 15 CSU Bakersfield 3 PM May 18 at Cal Poly* 6 PM • Non-Conference, No Problem UCSB has traditionally excelled against out-of-league competition, posting a 100-45 record against non- May 19 at Cal Poly* 1 PM conference opponents since the beginning of 2014, a .690 winning percentage. May 29 at Cal Poly* 1 PM May 21 Portland 3 PM • Program on the Rise May 24 Hawai’i* 3 PM Though the Gauchos recorded a sub-.500 record last season – the first losing season in Checketts’ six May 25 Hawai’i* 3 PM years at the helm – observers around the country still recognize that UCSB is a program on the rise, evi- denced by the team’s three trips to the postseason, first-ever College World Series berth (2016), and first- May 26 Hawai’i* 2 PM ever Regional hosting appointment (2015) in the past five seasons. • Minor League Transactions: Sept. 26-Oct. 2
Minor League Transactions: Sept. 26-Oct. 2 • The first wave of free agents entered the marketplace on Oct. 1 as 43 players elected free agency, the majority of them under Article XX(D) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. It reads in part: “Any player who has at least three years of major league service, or who qualified as a “Super Two” player . and whose contract is assigned outright to a minor league club may elect, in lieu of accepting such assignment, to become a free agent.
